9:35 I unfortunately work in a supermarket, and every time I see potato waffles that song comes into my head. Every single time. The power of advertising, eh??!!
Advertisements were so much better back in the day, so much so that they forever stuck in your mind and instantly transport you back in time whenever you see or hear them again. Contrast that to the advertisements we are now bombarded with. They are about as individual as a Dalek or a Borg and as memorable as the peas you had with your potato waffles 40 years ago.
Me and my brother used to use the line "Dodgy, very suspect, go on you have an apple." Especially when either of us had some food we didn't want to share! 🤣
A very young-looking Lewis Macleod and Peter Serafinowicz in that Batchelors Super Noodles ad at 11:29. However, as they both voiced characters in _Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace_ , licking those plates and putting them back in the cupboard is _not_ the most disgusting or shameful thing either of them has done... 😜😆
I really think that if some of these brands started showing these exact adverts again on TV it would boost sales. People would remember them, have a sense of nostalgia and want to relive their youth.
There were so many brands of low fat spread years ago and think we had them all in the house at some point. I remember Scottish sketch show naked video did a spoof of a golden churn ad where it was called stomach churn where the tub was full of shit, it put my mum right off it.
The pizzas looked better and the waffles, i still love waffles but the always look pasty now. i remember all of these ads, A jingle that sticks in my head was the batcherlor cuppa soup.No body makes soup in a cup like batcerlors cuppa soup, im singing it now, ah the memories.
I love how they advertise something as Swedish sounding as Krona being readily available in Cornwall and ladies would take cases of back with them after there holidays ?? I grew up in Cornwall [70's kid] and Trust me, anything "New" or "Cool", we often wouldn't get for a LONGGGG time
@@kumachan9311 Closest I've ever got to that was a brand of crisps. Burt's crisps. Had them in a cafe and loved them so much we ordered a box in for Christmas.
Alphabites! Remember that advert. And the waffle one too. I think I tried some of that Finus french bread pizza back in the day but weren't too keen on it.
Thanks so much for uploading these mate, much appreciated. Takes me back to when I was a young Pork growing up in Brighton in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Despite what my mam might tell you, I was a good little lad, always ate my greens and did what my mam told me to do (she’s senile now and off her head, so she’d probably tell you that I was an absolute rotter). Thanks again pal, all the best….
Classic ads there. With some I've never seem before. Certainly don't remember the butter advert with the baked potatoes! I somehow knew the end advert was going to be a bit dodgy. How did they get away with that! 😂😂
It was a follow-up to the one where Steven says, "I fancy your mum, Shaun." and Shaun just looks at him like he'd farted at a funeral. 🤣 I haven't found that one yet.
Wow, an OXO advert that I haven't found online before, so you may be the first to upload it. It's said there were 42 adverts featuing this OXO family, and I had previously scoured youtube and found 35 of them, but this wasn't one of the ones I had found. Maybe I should put together a playlist of what I've already found and see if anyone can find (or at least recall) the other six?
That sandwich spread looks genuinely stomach-turning 🤮 But I could definitely go a potato waffle right about now... In relation to that, I was talking to a friend just a couple of days ago about how insipid and character-free most modern ads are (and that's definitely not just the nostalgia talking), and one big reason has to be swapping jingles for songs, with Birds Eye Potato Waffles being one I specifically mentioned. It seems rather pointless to just licence commercial music, because it has no association with the brand, and ten minutes later you may remember hearing the song but probably won't remember where. Whereas a good jingle will live rent-free in viewers' heads, potentially forever, and always have the chance of popping into their mind on a random afternoon and immediately causing them to think of the brand. Jingles: they're waffle-y versatile...
@@RetroSteveUK Yup, that's about the size of it. They might work within the 30 - 60 seconds of the ad to create or suggest a specific mood or feeling, but it won't last. There are exceptions of course, but a song's just not going to be attached to a product or a brand, it stands alone as its own thing. (Another exception may be re-wording commercial songs: less Donovan's _Mellow Yellow_ here, but definitely the Vitalite ads or Colgate Blue Minty Gel.)

Used to love Smash when it was in little cubes, now it's powder and not as nice. Birds Eye Potato Waffles are really versatile as the ad says! Love them cooked in the electric toaster, a trick I found out years ago ;) Thanks Steve :)
Funnily enough pal, I’ve eaten Birdseye potato waffles for 30 years, and it was only a few weeks ago that my mate Joe Stains told me that you could put them in a toaster! I haven’t looked back after being told that, they come out champion, just like you’ve grilled them!
All that unhealthy processed food back then, thanks to modern healthy foods at least we won't have an obesity problem.....oh, wait a minute? Thanks again for the trip down memory lane.
Why does the UK put corn on pizza? I ask the same thing about why the US uses pineapple. I don't think the US ever made anything quite like the sandwich spread in a bottle.
It's small enough to cook through, doesn't turn to mush, and adds both colour and the feeling (or should that be illusion?) that the pizza is healthy. Green veg tends not to fair well on a pizza, so other veg/fruit tends to be used.
9:35 I unfortunately work in a supermarket, and every time I see potato waffles that song comes into my head. Every single time. The power of advertising, eh??!!
Yeah .. every time we have them for dinner we're both singing the song.
The Smash advert is the best one

Those French Bread Pizzas were wonderful. Such a nice crisp base that complimented everythung else. I went through so many of these.
I loved them
Me too i loved them. .perfect! Shame no 1 makes them anymore 😢
If you grill them you can have a scorching hot topping accompanied by a still frozen base. Perfect 😋
I loved French bread pizzas!
I used to enjoy the Italian sausage one, often when bunking off school watching the telly.
Love the animation for the Hippo Pota-Yog at 10:27, makes me want to "Dive in" for some good British yogurt!
Lol...didn't expect to see Peter Serafinowicz in an Bachelor Super Noodle advert..
When I first saw him on a TV show, I recognised him from that advert, funnily enough.
That Petit Filous ad takes me back, you don't get enough ads these days where one of the characters advertising the product dies onscreen!
Weirdly, when I was editing the video I hadn't noticed that. It was only while I was test-watching it, I was like, "Oh, wow, he dead!!" 🤣

Ben Whishaw in the Birds Eye ad from 2000 at 12:31!
Richard! 3:55 It's been so long! All is now right with the world 😁😆
Imagine walking into an authentic Naples pizzeria with a Findus French bread pizza. The look of contempt would have turned you to a pillar of salt!
I loved French Bread Pizzas. They are a terrible loss.
Same could be said for Ragu too! 🤣
The Country Life adverts were sung by The Wurzels.
Do you remember when somebody said have a whole channel dedicated to advert & someone said it would never work.
It's like the Demolition Man (Sandra Bullock / Stallone) movie's ad jingles, but for reals! 😆
