Drivers in Germany have been faced with a radical new anti-speeding initiative, the so-called 'blitz marathon'.
Over a 24-hour period, starting on Thursday morning, police officers were stationed with cameras at more than 8,500 locations across the country.
People caught breaking the speed limit faced 25 euro fines.
A similar 'blitz' was previously carried out in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, but the latest crackdown was nationwide.
Not all motorists welcomed the move. One complained: "If it says 50 on the sign then it's normal to drive at 50. But you go just seven or eight kilometres quicker than that, then you have to pay 25 euros. That's annoying!"
The German government said this week that every third fatality on the roads is caused by people driving too fast.
