What stands out to me his the anguish he feels about the condition obtaining and the pain resulting from misinterpreting his views and the stand he takes. Criticise him by all means, if you feel you have a point of view different from his but first try to understand where he comes from. Like Jiddu Krishnamurthy had said once (or many times?) it appears that we are unduly in a hurry to react or to provide answers without even understanding the questions that TMK raises. I may not agree with everything (or even many things) he says but I respect his thought process and he comes across to me as one whose questions are coming from a deep and troubling introspection and observations. I respect TMK for this.
Tnx. We surely can do with more open and searching questioning than just with personal attacks. And it is not new. The Katha Upanishad is a result of a young boy having the guts to ask questions of his father and his father letting him to discover his own truths. If this is our 'tradition' and 'culture', how do we become so intolerant to 'inconvenient questions'? :)

After watching this program I'm became T.M.Krishna's fan, I have to seen him or listen to his music not even read a single writing of him . But his toughs and power of confidence and courage is excellent ........ Thanks a lot PTT.....
Cultural actitivities can take place anywhere.Two cultures can come together. T.M Krishna is right in pointing out that there is caste discrimination and people from lower caste feel initmidated to come to these sabhas. only one reason behind this. I feel caste came into existence because of our food priorities. If everyone ate either veg food or non veg the whole caste scenario will be different in India.
Why is he defending Telugu and Malayali and Kannada? Why not sing in Tamil in Tamil Nadu itself? If he is really creative? Full of contradictions but not surprising

Though he is one of the leading artists in the field of Carnatic music, intriguing to know that he has taken such a controversial step of treading the untrodden path. He says that there should be a change in style of singing. Car music itself and the audience have accepted the different styles in singing within the acceptable boundaries. If it is blown out of proportion, may be we can classify it outside car music and name it accordingly. Its akin to think of piloting a plane differently. Next, its true that the music is open to all for singing and for listening. May be since he is sitting on the stage and delivering, he has not taken cognizance of it. Cutting across caste and creed many people are coming to sabhas. And there are many artists from different castes and the rasikas are equally enjoying this music. Thus there is no discrimination. As he himself says no one is preventing anyone else from entering the sabhas. The inhibition in each one of us will be won over immediately on entering and taking a seat. In fact any rasika irrespective of caste will have such an inhibition when he first enters. Inviting persons from outside and forcing them to listen to the music will only embarrass them. Next, bringing the Paraiyattam to sabhas is so bad an idea as taking the car music to kuppams. Let him understand first that the people in kuppam are giving respect to a different atmosphere of listening to something different and as an event to pass time and not out of interest. Also thank God that they are not rejecting it but they maintain dignity by not giving it a go by. All of us are driven by our natural interest. The better way of spreading the c music is to conduct free music classes to the small children not only from kuppam but many others with interest in cities and in semi urban areas also. He says that the fishermen are happy and he can mix with them. Since he is chatting with them and spending time they r listening to his music and its not the other way round. They are reachable through our friendliness and not by forced interest towards music on them. There have been a lot of changes brought about and many such changes will come for sure automatically and in a time bound manner. Such a skewed manner of changing its course as being envisaged by him will only bring about chaos and car music will only be the sufferer. Regards Raghu
