Another very good video explaining something that is quite complicated. My SQL understanding and knowledge of SQL has improved 100% since I started watching this set of videos. A million thanks for all your hard work in making this look easy.
great tutorials with excellent teaching skills. Appreciate your effort for making these video. same comment goes to all videos in this series. God bless you sir.
Such a well done video, made learning Cursor processors and when to use them so much easier than shifting through documentation online. Definitely going to check out other tutorials by WiseOwl.
Hi Andy, these videos are "super dope". Really well explained and very easy to understand. I'm currently doing an MSCA and think I will be using your videos extensively. Cheers!
Thanks mate for making such useful and easy-to-understand videos. I am thinking of sharing my experience with our managers to see if they are willing to arrange an on-site training for our analysts within the organisation.
For anyone following along with the video and using the Movies database that's linked above, note that you won't have the FilmCumulativeOscars column in your tblFilms table, you'll need to add it in.
Wonder if anyone else feels that Andrew sounds a lot like Sir David Attenborough. Only this is a SQL 'documentary' if you will ;) Thank you very much for these videos Andrew. Very educating and so easy to understand. I got my job learning SSRS by viewing your videos. Much respect to you.
Thank you Andrew. I got this job from watching your videos and learning SQL and SSRS within about a week. I've also recommended your channel to a lot of my friends in India, here in Canada and the US. We're all very grateful to you for passing on this knowledge and wish you all the best. Thanks again!
Hands down best SQL Server tutorials on RUclips and probably the net. There are poor fools paying a lot of money for INFERIOR training to this. Glad I'm not one of them :)
Andrew, what you do here is amazing! :D It is really understandable even for the guy like me who is not native. But there one more thing you could do to make it even more fantastic. :) Simply to provide us - students your database to practice with short video what you attach it to our SQL Server. For us the most important is simply practice, practice and one more time, watching video is not enough. If there is an option like it here forgive me as I am still the beginner in this field (but with great passion) Best regards man!!!
13:07 - why the FETCH NEXT FROM is nested in the BEGIN/END block instead of being outside? So not having that instruction at line 27 will create infinite loop?
Great video! In the while loop syntax, why is correct to use SET @TotalOscars+=@FilmOscars rather than just SET @TotalOscars+@FilmOscars Also, maybe you have one and I haven't seen it, but do you plan a video on FOR XML and working with XML in SQL Server? Thanks!!
Out of all of you who have commented such nice things as "amazing", "easy to understand", "riveting". "super dope", "excellent", "superb", "Very helpful", "really appreciate", "better than college/university", "absolutely great", "best free tutorials", "helped me get a job", etc., etc....How many of you have donated at least $1.00 using the link in the description? :-)
I have a question regarding the print @filename + ‘was released on ‘ + CCONVERT(char(10), filmdate,103) 1. How did sql knows to put jn filmid in convert(char(10)) 2. What does the 103 at the end means why dis you put it there? Thank you
Hi Arman! We have a video on working with dates which explains how it works here ruclips.net/video/Q2xhAafpRJo/видео.html You can see the full list of date format codes here learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/functions/cast-and-convert-transact-sql?view=sql-server-ver16 I hope it helps!
Thank you Andrew. This lessons and your VBA course explain programming very well. One question , with your last example I'm getting error: "invalid column name FilmCumulativeOscars"
'Specifies that the membership and order of rows in the cursor are fixed when the cursor is opened.' what does the word 'membership' from the above sentence refers to?
What program setup do people use to program SQL code like this? I have MySQL with XAMPP apache server and the two database languages conflict to where the syntax is always wrong. Really frustrating trying to learn from these tutorials and have MySQL constantly telling me I'm wrong.
I am trying to wrap my head around why @@fetch_status= 0, would result in a true response from the server instead of 1. Could you please elaborate? Thank You
These are the best free tutorials I have ever seen hands down. Amazing education, thank you!

You're a great teacher who is definitely doing what you were born to do. I don't know where I'd be without your videos. Thanks a lot!
I never thought teaching can be so compelling. Absolutely riveting. Thanks Andy.
Better than what they teach us in University, you are amazing!
Universitys teachers 70% time suck as
that's a lot of information in less than 30 minutes. Great thing we can play it on repeat.
Thanks!
Very well done! The Relative Operations come in handy for stepping through Year Quarters of a project I'm working on now. Bravo!
Happy to hear that you found it useful, thanks for watching!
Very nice video even 10 years later, thank you
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
Fantastic presentation. Very clear and well edited.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this update. I thought I had done something wrong again when I couldn't find the field.

The 16 dislikes are from trojan horses sitting on Host's desktop. Great tutorial as always thanks!

Excelent tutorial, so useful
thank u so much WiseOwl!
Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
Really appreciate what you are doing for educating us. From where can I get databases to practice on? Thanks
great video! You are very good at explaining. Question, how would you do a nested cursor and when is it really necessary?
Great video!

***** As a SQL Server/TSQL novice I find your videos incredibly helpful and done with excellent clarity and pace. Thank you for making them available!

thanks for wonderful tutorial m, How i can use "Wildcard" in selecting statment for the crusor ???
Awesome sir, can you present it for Triggers.?
The video is absolutely great!
Thank you Andrew. This lessons and your VBA course explain programming very well.

"invalid column name FilmCumulativeOscars"
'Specifies that the membership and order of rows in the cursor are fixed when the cursor is opened.'
what does the word 'membership' from the above sentence refers to?
Hi Arghya, "membership" in this context means that the rows exist in or belong to the cursor. i hope that helps!

thanks Sir, greetings from Perú.
I am trying to wrap my head around why @@fetch_status= 0, would result in a true response from the server instead of 1. Could you please elaborate?
Thank You
Impressive tutorials. With cursors, why are scroll and forward only used? Why not just leave it as cursor with all fetch options available?
really nice video on cursors. I had a question. On your website, I saw a lot of excel vba videos. Could you do some youtube videos on excel vba?
Amazing work, thank you !
Could you make tutorial about Index, with explanation of reasons to use, how to create and how to maintain them?
Great instruction. Thanks .
Why do you need two fetch statements?
first is right after the opening. second one to keep fetching on.
very nice sir..!! speechless..!
you are awesome MR.
Great tutorial!
Thank you wise owl
Yes, triggers please!
Thank You So much
This is nice, but the implementation yields a duplicate on the last loop.
tnks a lot dude
