I love Manchelopi. On my last visit to spain I purchased few plates and as soon as I got home I knitted a jumper … it is wonderfully soft and light even though I used 4 strings 😊😊😊
Oh I'm so glad I found you! And especially since I have a sweater's worth of gorgeous Plotulopi to make something for my husband .. I tested it out and it was interesting to knit.. your tips are fascinating! Thanks and look forward to more tips! (and a trip this spring sometime eastward to visit the Fingerlakes, I hear from everyone here in Buffalo how lovely it is there!)
Yes don’t start your Nutiden shawl right after you finish with your linen sweater or you will be wanting to tension way to tight! Lol I’m curious as to whether you can knit a loose gauge with it like you do with mohair?
I LOVE the look of the pieces knitted with this unspuned yarn and I've been kind of hesitant on buying some plotulopi cakes for a while but now I definitely want to try it! I dont have big issues with wool next to my skin, but anyways...does it soften after washing it?
I have some single strand unspun yarn. Could I combine it with a fingering weight 2 ply spun yarn to give it some strength? Any thoughts on how these 2 would block-out together?
You can definitely hold another yarn along with it! It will add some weight, so I would choose a larger size needle and play around a bit to see what gauge you like them held together at!
i'm not a patient person, so i think i will opt out of knitting with unspun yarn, but what yarn would you recommend as a substitute for the manchelopis, i would like to knit the lolancha sweater..
If the final project is knit in the round, how do you swatch with unspun yarn? Do you knit a row then purl back or do you knit a very small piece in the round, or another method?
You can bring the yarn across the back of your work (this is how I do all my knitting in the round swatches) and slide your needle so that you are always working on the RS of your work!
@@LauraNelkin yes and no. Some soft yarns like mohair is soft but prickly not smooth. It’s usually the fiber with short or stiffer ends that poke and irritate my skin. Some acrylic, alpaca, wool, etc
It is just another style of wool to knit with... the fabric it creates is light and warm... try it out! I'm always learning new things about knitting : )!
Laura, would you, by any chance, have any leftover Nutiden's color-Flisselin yarn? I'm making a pullover for my mom's 80th birthday. Sadly, I lost the yarn chicken game & I cannot finish her sweater yet. I'm now running like a headless chicken trying to see if anyone out there has any leftover Flisselin that would willingnly sell to me. I have some Jarnviglia if anybody would like to exchange. PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙂🙂🙂THANK YOU!!!
At last, a video on unspun that gets to the point and is actually useful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

Oh wow! I am so excited to knit a sweater in it!
Thank you for this! Very very helpful! I hadn’t heard these tips before.

Thank you very much for the video. It would be also interesting to know what kind of bind off is unspun yarn friendly.
Thank You! Great tips! I just purchased my first wheel and excited to try something new!
Wonderful!
Very helpful, thank you 😊 🙏 ❤
You’re welcome 😊
I just bought some unspun yarn so I really appreciate these tips. Thanks
You are so welcome!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets distracted 😊

Holding a mohair or another yarn along with it is a great idea!

Yes, it does soften with blocking... The Manchelopis is already quite yummy pre-blocking. Plutolopi is a bit toothier, but it also wears beautifully!
😁ok elephant in the room ... at first I, (really the Lola in me) thought you said there was saliva on the wheel, oh she said sliver didn't she?
LOL! No Saliva on this yarn!!!
Can you knit with one strand of Nutiden and one strand of Manchelopis together?
Would Manchelopis work in a striped linen stitch blanket, specifically the Sonoma Mountain Wrap pattern?
I think you would have to swatch and see if you like the fabric it makes... I am not familiar with that pattern, so can't help much there! Sorry!

Oh! You can try Lett-Lopi! That will get you the same gauge!

Would the yarn work as thrums in mittens?
Oh! Yes, i think it would... you'd just want to use a few thicknesses of it! Try it out and let me know how it goes!
So did working with the yarn make it smoother for you to have it around your neck?
I'm not totally sure what you mean? Do you mean did it make it softer?
@@LauraNelkin yes and no. Some soft yarns like mohair is soft but prickly not smooth. It’s usually the fiber with short or stiffer ends that poke and irritate my skin. Some acrylic, alpaca, wool, etc
Was the finished knitted project sturdier, ie did manipulation pull the knitting apart?
Yes, your finished knitting is quite sturdy... it doesn't pull apart once it is worked up!
What is the benefit of knitting with unspun yarn? Why would someone choose to do so? I've never heard of it before today 🤷♀️

LOL... I've never knit with Nutiden, but now I want to!!! Good Luck finding it!
There are some people in Spain that call this "a cheese" (un queso) instead of a plate or a cake.
I love that!
