I chuckled when I saw you were going to tackle Brian Wilson. I sobbed through most of this. You did a particularly good job on a whopper of a topic. I got a lot from this. Thank you!
I just finished the video and the song is really great, nice iob! The beach boys (and Brian Wilson) have some amazing music in the late 60s and early 70s. Especially Friends, Sunflower and Surfs Up. Totally worth checking out if you want to hear more Wilson magic
ps: I've just spent the last two hours trying to remember what Beach Boys song this bassline sounds like. I pretty much had the whole song in my head but I couldn't find it at all. It seemed to be something out of 1965 or 66 like something from the Today! album or even Pet Sounds. I looked for outtakes and everything. I had already given up and convinced myself that I wouldn't find it, but right before I went to sleep I checked RUclips and the song magically appeared on my homepage. It was a little scary actually. The music is Honeycomb. Brian recorded it for the 2021 documentary. After all, it doesn't sound so much like something out of 1965 and it sounds even less like the bassline. At least I'll sleep with a lighter head lol
Thanks so much! I'll have to look into that song you mentioned, I was definately trying to channel as much of Brian as I could, maybe I subliminally mimicked it after hearing it in the documentary.
This is lovely all the way through! I just started playing guitar and attempting to write music. Watching many videos on how to do it, but you and Brian truly captured WHY we should write music. The emotion and the honesty that should be behind it! And I'll take that with me through my journey. Thank you so much for this, and I really dig your song at the end dude! :)
Thanks for taking the time to document your learning and creative process. I like your style and the "voice" you use to bring to these other songwriters to us. Much appreciation.
I’ve been listening to Brian for 60 years but hadn’t deconstructed his music and songwriting like you did here on your video. Very interesting. And very well done. Hopefully, Brian or someone in his circle will see this and hear your song and he’ll record it (and add his unique contributions to the finished product).
Great video - and that song you wrote is great - been following you from the beginning and your songwriting chops and craft and talent have increased immeasurably... keep it moving...
6:35 - I love the way he says “discover new songs“ and not “WRITE new songs“ He’s right about working with other people being very fruitful, but, in my experience, the more musicians get involved, the more overarching egos vie & take over and claim credit that should be shared as their own. I hate writing in a Vacuum -in fact, I hate doing anything by myself(!)but there’s something about many musicians that make them behave in a way that would be unbearable and unthinkable in any other walk of life IMO Maybe I’m just unlucky😂

glad i’m not the only one sobbing 👍
God bless Brian W.
Brian Wilson is and still is a musical genius.
do you mean "was and still is"?

I can tell an immense amount of work goes into these videos. Good job, and the song was definitely evocative of Brian's style
I'm speechless. This video is perfect. I can't even imagine the amount of effort you put into this. Thank you for that.

@@TheSongwritersWorkshop I loved your music. really something that could have come out of the Beach Boys. You did a great great job
I don’t comment often on videos, but this channel is amazing. Very inspiring. Keep up the great work.
HE'S BACK!
You are not alone because the sun will always shine for you
Great video, and awesome job with the song! It sounds like it could have fit in very well in that era. Brian Wilson is one of a kind.

Love this channel man
Nice job with the song at the end!
Just found this. Love the series idea. Will check out more. Thank you!
Duuuude! Yes! I love your videos

Soo Cool. Would love for Brian to hear this and actual cover your your song.
Nice job on the song and video! I’d love to see a video on Jeff Lynne!
One thing I saw about Jeff Lynne was he'd listen to songs backwards and get a melody that way. :)
Light of the sun sounds like something Dennis might have written.😊
Your song has a strong jazz feel/
“Brian’s Back”-“Forever”-for “This Whole World”-and contrary to the song, he IS “Made For These Times”.
Dude you should the vid and your song to Brian Wilson!
Cool song! What are the chords? Your chorus harmony is killer
A Heroes and villiance break!! Didn't see tha t coming. Realy good.

Nice analysis. You should have mentioned the drug use that exacerbated Brian’s condition.
I think you should do video about Kurt Cobain's songwriting.
Haven't watched it yet, but I assume you lay in bed for 3 years before writing a song called bing bang
Good video but the song is trash tbh Brain would puke. Good documentary tho.
Mike Love would have likely preferred it to anything from "Smile", though.
