Oh, man, this one made me cry a bit 😢 but in a good way. It made me remember when I was a child and we were so poor that I got new shoes once a year and my mother even less. So we went to a repair shop, but we had to sit there without shoes waiting for the master to finish since it was the only pair we had. Times have changed, I have a job and can buy shoes with the seasons, my mom is no longer in this world, but today you brought her back ❤ Sorry for how emotional I got! I just want to say, Paolo, thank you for all the work you put into every one of your videos. You bring to us not only entertainment but culture, wisdom, amazement, sometimes laughter and sometimes tears. Thank you!!! ❤
@@jefftraboulsy8631 yeah, I’m buying new clothes and shoes, when they literally fall off of me in pieces. When they’re not usable anymore. Most of my clothes are from the early 2010’s.
The shoemaker with his wife diligently working with the snow falling down in the background gave of such a relaxing vibe ☺️ your editing with the smooth background music just made it complete!
One of my favorite things about these career videos (and the channel in general) is that it helps me get back into the headspace of the childhood that os so far behind me, now. Every video feels like me and my buddy Paolo just being curious about stuff and wandering around being interested in everything. It brings the life back into living.
At 9:20 it is snowing outside and that's so comfy. This could be easily a relaxing video of the owner just repairing shoes for hours while it snows outside :D
97% of businesses are family owned, wow! I always appreciate the insights you give that help put the individual shops into the context of the greater business culture in Japan :)
One thing that I noticed when travelling around Japan was how nice everyone kept their work shoes. Most workers had well-kept shoes and smart, clean uniforms that they clearly took great pride in. I saw very few people with worn down heels, or overly cracked or scuffed leather. It's a little thing to many, particularly where I live in the West, but it helps keep shops like this alive, all whilst reducing waste! It's a win win.
His advice to his younger self is very true! I’m 29 and quit the company life and running my own plumbing business. Is much more harder but the life is WAY more flexible and actually fun
In the early 2000s I worked for Mitsubishi Motors and made several trips to Japan. I loved the dedication and attention to detail all of my counterparts had along with the respect they had for their culture. I would love to go back and just be there to appreciate the culture.
I'm a cobbler apprentice myself since July. cool this video just came up. where I'm from were like the only ones that fix shoes left. Here in America its sadly a dying trade
Hi Paolo! Charlene here from Texas USA! I really enjoyed this kind of video. It was a nice change from all the food and restaurant videos. But don’t get me wrong. I like those too but this was really a nice change. Thank you.❤
The "shoe repair" videos I usually see are based in the US. They are usually focused on repairing/resoling/refurbishing Work Boots, not fixing "salary man" shoes. That said, your man has a work ethic I respect. He is a true craftsman!
It's weird to say this but I don't mind the Squarespace ads. Their ads are unobtrusive and they help keep this channel running. Seems like a nice company to me.
when the snow started to fall and we could see it from the door or window, and he was just working, what a view so cozy and I want that , to have that too ! Man worked hard for it
I love this so much! My great grandfather came to America from Italy. He was a cobbler and eventually opened his own shop. This episode makes me so nostalgic!
I love the care and craftsmanship and attention to detail the owner and his wife give to each piece. I'm sure most people in other countries would have thrown out those sneakers, but he takes the time to repair. It's so nice to see. Great video.
I love the owner's humble honesty, and how he worked from the bottom up to become successful. Also, I learn from these videos where my morning routine of cleaning up makes the day so much better.
I always loved seeing the dedication and work craftsmen put into their work and I love the aspect of taking care of sentimental items through repair. Sending positive thoughts so they can open a shop in NYC. Ganbatte!
Again and again..... no one works harder and putting 100% effort into their work like the Japanese people......Won't find this kind of compassion/dedication in America that's for sure!
if you got great expertise i doubt boss would even bother peeping over your shoulder when he can just enjoy his coffee. try building the great expertise before complaining
Incredible craftsmanship, work ethic, know how and they put their heart and soul into their work. The essense of the japanese standard is what is exhibited here. Thanks Paolo!! Another amazing story told and you shot it beautifully ad you always do!
The owner joking about "planting customers" was hilarious. But I have to say, I didn't mind not hearing from any customers on this one. Shoe repair is such a lost art thanks to consumerism. It's great to see talent like this in the world. 👞
Absolutely loved getting a peek behind the scenes of this amazing shoe repair shop! The owner's dedication, the story of resilience, and that sense of community pride truly shine through. Makes me appreciate the craftsmanship and care put into every repair. Definitely inspired to take better care of my own shoes!
Hi Paolo. I always enjoy these everyday life videos. We think sustainability is something new, but those old values of valuing possessions and looking after them was the original sustainability.
It soo wonderful to see a good handcraft japanese People who repair shoes, give good service for the customer this is a good thing for our planet and enviroment ❤ Many greetings from sweden❤❤ ❤❤❤

11:38 mimd blown, I recognized that bottle immediately. A friend who lives in NYC brought one for me when he came to visit because of my love of chocolate.
I LOVE this! I'm so interested in how every day people live. What he said about the advice he would give to his younger self, about quitting the company and starting his own thing really resonated with me. I have been thinking the same thing!
Shoe repair is pretty fascinating, there are many channels here that post videos of all kinds of shoes from work boots to custom LVs. It's also neat that they use very old hand tools and machinery for stitching and compressing soles.
I love this so much and the importance of craftsmanship. In the USA I work in the landscape and horticulture industry. I would love to see a day in the life of a gardener/designer in Japan. 😊
So crazy that there still is a shoe repair shop, I've seen them a lot when I was a kid but they are disappearing around us. I hope the business would do good for long time. Thanks for covering awesome places like this, have a great weekend Paolo!
I absolutely love seeing this, little shops with craftsmanship. it reminds me of my childhood when we had those shops everywhere (like: cobbler, tailor, butcher etc) but today their are lesser and lesser 😢 and it makes me sad bc we didn't only purchased things, we had a neighborly bond with each other and today especially in big cities it's almost gone. I would love to have such an great shop in my neighborhood ❤
I’ve been a long time viewer of this channel and of these “behind the scenes” videos. What strikes me the most is how the Japanese just get-shit-done. No fuss. No fanfare. No whining. They just do what needs to be done. Period.

New shoes once a year doesnt sound very poor.
I think these days, the cost to repair a shoe costs more than a new budget shoe.

You can say the same for cars in Japan. You don't see cars with dents or jalopies on the street and most cars are clean.
I actually enjoy this way more than behind the counter of restaurants ❤ Other videos are loud and busy, this one was so nice and calm.

There is something so nostalgic and relaxing about this video. How meticulous they are. How cooperative the husband and wife are. 10/10 video!
