Dude, they never explained this to me when I was in college. I graduated this year with an Associates in Digital Animation, but I had no idea I could apply to staffing agency or which one to apply for. Thank you so much!
I wish tips like these were shared in college courses or through guidance counselors at the college I attended because this is amazing information! Thank you for sharing this. I graduated when the pandemic hit and have had the worst luck finding stable work. I look forward to trying out one of these agencies!
I just graduated and earned my BA in graphic design. I've been applying to various firms in my city and also in Los Angeles. They've all been passing me up, I haven't even made it to a single interview with any of them. I'm gonna look into possibly contacting an agency. In the meantime I've enrolled myself in an online boot camp to further enhance my UI/UX design skills.
Hello, I'm hoping Philip VanDusen can answer this question, but if anyone else can answer this it would be great. I just had a graphic interview today, if I get the job it would be my first real graphic job. This job does not offer any benefits and is Contract work. So my question is (I live in MI) how do you find a reasonable 3rd party health insurance (a.k.a A retail policy or individual health ins.) with dental and vision? Also what do you do about not having a 401k or anything else you would have like that if you worked a "normal" job? Lastly what do you have to do with taxes since the job does not with hold taxes either (I'm guessing I have to pay them but how much do you hold back for them)?
Yes, personally I believe age is a factor - the design industry is exceedingly ageist. Getting into the career for the first time at 50 at and agency or in-house would be very challenging - but maybe not entirely impossible. But working with a staffing firm would totally help - to judge whether it is viable. Otherwise you would have to go solo.
@@PhilipVanDusen Thank you so much for your honest opinion! I've expressed this concern to friends and family who in turn hammer me with well meaning platitudes like, "Age is only a number", blah blah blah. The corporate world is harsh. However--I'm still going to explore graphic design for my personal use. Designing T-shirts, stickers, logos, coloring books and selling them in my Etsy store is an avenue I want to explore. Again, thank you so much!
The easiest way is to Google Graphic Design Staffing agencies in my area. Try these 4, some of the best: icreatives.com, aquent.com, 24seventalent.com artisancreative.com
What if I graduated from college in 2010, did a few freelance jobs, then ended up putting my graphic design career on hold for a regular day job? Do I have to take classes to refresh my portfolio and skills?
Juannie, Yes, I would suggest you take a few classes in Adobe apps - you might use Daniel Scott at Bring Your Own Laptop, the monthly subscription is only about $12/mo for access to ALL his training - he's a certified Adobe trainer and a good friend - best online training there is IMHO - - my affiliate link for his site is byol.me/philip. You don't have to go back to (physical) school, just brush up your app knowledge. Then update your portfolio with some new work, if they are all 12 years old, you'll have to do that - give yourself some imaginary projects and create a few few pieces. Wish you luck!

Hi, Master, Which staffing agency is advice from you. I am a designer in adverising agency from 1988. as a visualizer and Psckaging Designer.pos etc. please kindy advice will ne Great. Thanks & Best Regards Akram
I have tired so much praying so much and my life does not get better but get's worse and worse to the point am losing faith in God. I went to college well community college, while I really wanted to do Animation, and graduated in 2019 and started looking for a job as a graphic designer and a hotel did promise me a graphic design job but in day one they told me that role was gone and said I fit better in janitor....so fuck up, pandemic came in 2020 and save me from the stress of that but sadly I went back to the hotel in spring 2021, as a pool guy better than janitor but it was a nightmare. At the end I was doing the work for 5 people and it was seen as normal. Quit the hotel early this year and move to retail, better but still stressful , been looking for graphic design jobs in my town and I did found some, one asshole trick me twice saying I was prefect then to close the role a day later. This happen twice, and now I been applying every where here, big cities, remote nothing. I don't know what to do am so lost , my metal health is getting so much stressful anything but nothing it feels when I look up and pray it feels like am in hell where life get's worse and worse. if I have to change carriers then I will lose all hope for god am done having to waste time praying like this carrier.
I’m 17 years old in highschool and I took the Digital Design class in my school and I’m certified in Photoshop & Illustrator. I’m about to get my InDesign Certification soon as well. What are the best graphic design jobs I can do? Or where is the best place for me to find jobs? I am also unsure how limited the options are for me since I’m under 18 but your help would be greatly appreciated.
Wow... I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t even know designers/photographers had staffing agency’s as an option for sidework/potential FT positions. I’m in the middle of setting an appointment with a friend to take new headshots for my LinkedIn and my Personal portfolio website. I haven’t applied to any jobs in a while now since I’ve dedicated my spare time to my websites development & the last few freelance jobs I’ve had. Despite the fear of rejection, This video makes me that much more excited to land my first FT job this year 🙏🏼. Thank you so much for this!
I cant find a job anywhere, they wont hire me anywhere. I'm kind of of done trying to find a job in the field and constantly getting rejected. I hate everything on this planet. I'm a useless person so what's the point in continuing now
Start learning Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop as soon as you can. If you can't afford those there are a lot of free alternatives out there - just google it. Affinity Designer is a great place to start. Then copy graphic designers work that you like. You will learn a lot about design, balance, color and composition by recreating others work.
Sir i am from India, i am a graphic designer i know Photoshop, corel draw, illustration and other... I have work experience about 10 years in India and continue do this job. Can you find a job in any foreign company.... Please send a reply

Daniel, I would call them it’s really the best way. It’s also a way to stand out, because everyone else is doing it digitally.
