- The difficulties of dealing with Stephen's (Eddie Redmayne) disease were too much for Jane (Felicity Jones) who was isolated and overwrought. However, even when Stephen and Jane Hawking's marriage petered out gradually, they showed great care, respect and appreciation for each other. Jane ended up falling for another in Jonathan Jones (Charlie Cox) who she then married.

Charlie Cox, Eddie And Felicity are such incredible actors. Just after this film they were three become well known in the big franchises, Eddie in the Harry Potter world, Felicity in Star Wars and Charlie as Daredevil in Marvel. I hope their professionalism continues taking them far.

I honestly belive not only did Stephan know, he understood. A man smart as that knows he's a drain to those he loves. That man's love for her trsnceded physics. I have no doubt in my mind that he was okay with their relationship. He was willing to start something like that with his caretaker. This doesn't mean Jane or Stephan were horrible people. Everyone has their needs, and they need them fulfilled. Stephan despite his love for Jane, he looked to move on with his caretaker because she understood and was capable living with his condition. Jane needed more than what he was capable of providing, this doesn't mean she was heartless, it only means that she was human. They both had needs that eachother couldn't provide. Stephan knowing this, lived content that the love of his life found her happiness. Jane surely understood that Stephan loved her but needed someone else. Neither decided or betrayed one another. These moments prove their love for each other. Neither one wanted to hurt the other, they both felt guilt, but sometimes to love means to let go. This movie was great, it not only gave an entertaing understanding of Stephan's life, but it showed that human endeavor has no boundaries.

@@Nic-om7en obviously, not only through personal experiences with freinds, but it's also shown in this video and the movie. I highly recommend watching/ re watching the movie. It does an amazing job of portraying the hardship cheating takes on one's person. That being said I feel you misinterpreted what I posted, or perhaps I didn't convey what I was trying to say properly. I'm not excusing either person for cheating, I'm measly pointing out how they both were able to consolidate their love and friendship despite it.
@@Nic-om7en exactly she was still married to steven so it was cheating. She knew what she signed up for when she married him, that steven's illness will get worse and she still chose to start a family with him. He could have died while Jane was sleeping with the other dude...

It is soooo refreshing to watch and discus things that matter (no pun intended, well maybe so) instead of the over and over and over and over daily that gets broadcasted on the "News channels"
According to me Jane was a wonderful person. She loved him and got married even in those circumstances. John was her second love Stephen understood and knew them that they were really genuinely good people.

truth be told in Stephen's position i wouldn't have blamed her, quite the opposite. I even would have to told her to not let the marriage stop her from a bit of happiness with another man. There is no need to break the family, we can expend it.

They never loved their other lovers *over* each other, they loved each other so much that they were willing to let each other find new love in others because it's been terribly difficult and strenuous on both of them over the years. Jane loves Stephen but she felt more like a caregiver than a wife; Stephen loves Jane but he hated seeing his wife go through so much turmoil over the years he's been diagnosed. That's why Stephen took the step to explore feelings for the nurse so that Jane could have a happier life with Jonathan.

@Jineth.C Hettiarachchi This single scene made me hate the entire film at first, and then I slowly began to realize that this is one of the basic nature of human beings, to seek more and to move on from things.
@Jineth.C Hettiarachchi My mother has been with my dad since before I was born and never even THOUGHT about cheating. Neither has my dad. Yes, human beings will always feel attracted to other people and will lust for more. Being able to deal with these feeling and learning to put them away is part of growing up, being an adult. You either become an adults and take the responsiblility and stay with your loved one (even if it's just for the kids) or you're a piece of garbage.
I really recommend you read "Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen" and realise how dumb you sound. The movie added that in for romance drama. It's pretty sickening actually on how much of the film was changed to make Stephen look like he wasn't in the wrong in their relationship.

Difficult to be positive when your husband is in a wheelchair and requires round-the-clock, 24-hour care whilst you have your own life and interests.
...did you even watch the movie? She was incredibly loyal and stuck by him for a very long time, making sacrifices to take care of him because she loved him and it was what needed to be done. But she slowly got burnt out, and his condition progressed beyond what she could reasonably handle. They both had needs the other couldn't meet. They grew apart. She developed feelings for Jonathan, he developed feeling for a nurse. They were sad about splitting up, but they both knew it was for the best.
