why did you not use the gyro in the aim trainer? it seemed like you only used the trackpad. while this gamepad is really good. It pales in comparison to the steamcontroller. it would be much better if the made a version that was regognised as the inne pad on pc. witht theire own software for the gyro. because xinput does not support gyro natively most gamepads are either limited to a ps4 mode a switch mode or a keyboard and mouse mode. Thank Microsoft for that.
Have you heard of the Alpakka controller. It also has a keyboard and mouse config. so it works on console aswell. It is based primerally on a technique called gyro ratcheting. wich is comparable to picking up a mouse from the mouse pad.
It is a great controller for console and pc. I dont know wich market this controller is for. because on pc it is very limited compared to a steam controller.

@@caleasthetic It came down to two things:
      1. I sucked at gyro and though it wouldn't reflect reality
      2. I had a bad wrist and was on a 7 Day time limit for making the video
Because of that only the trackpad made it into the video.
I still need to get my hands on a steam controller (only had one for a short time when they came out) to properly compare them.
Do you mean the one by "Input Labs"? It looks interesting. I might try to build one in the future.
I guess the main market is people who play FPS on consoles, or have their PC hooked up to a TV and don't want one of these big KB/M "pillows".

@@dyXurChannel The alpakka is purely gyro based though. So you absolutly need to love gyro and be willing to sink in the time to get used to it.
I dont know how well versed you are in different gyro activation styles like ads only, always on with a gyro pauze button and flick stick.
also the steamcontroller does feel cheaply build and the buttons are kind of strangely placed. but if you know how steam input works then it is greate.
However most revieuwers dont want to spend hours trying to make different gyro configs for the steamcontroller. because for people who like to have it configured out of the box the steamcontroller is not a good fit.
the steamdeck has a better layout but i dont know if that would work on a regular controller shape. because you grip the steamdeck much higher then you would a traditional gamepad. Maybe if they ket the controller shape the same as the steamdeck and just remove the screen it could work. I just hope for another steam controller someday. because when you know how to make a good cinfig it is still one of the better controllers.
on the inne i agree that the combination of yaw and roll is the best for the gyro. but the trackpad has a too low resolution. I like that it has 6 settings gor both gyro and trackpad. 3 without acceleration and 3 with acceleration.
The problen on console is that most games only have analog camera controls. Theire are controllers like the xim nexus and armor x pro adapter that translate rightstick to gyro. but if you know the difference between analog gyro (wich is acceleration based) and mouse like gyro (wich is displacement based) then you know it if not as good.
because analog gyro has a minimum and maximum turn speed. so if you move the controller to fast the camera will decelerate. when you move a mouse you can move asfas as you want.
Sorry for the long reply. but i am just that enthousiastic about gyro controls in general😅

I thought as much when I saw it. Seeing as the right stick has been replaced with a scroll wheel.
I'm not too well versed with gyro in general, but I can imagine what the terms mean (except maybe flick stick).
The big problem with the Steam controller imo., is that it was designed in tandem to release with the steam machines. So when they flopped, there wasn't really a need for Valve to improve on it.
Wasn't there a leak or smth. of a new Steam controller? But yeah it would be great for Valve to make a new one.
I think consoles are currently coming around with their controls, since they are just locked down PCs at this point. It'll depend on the game, but iirc the bigger ones like CoD offer full KB/M support. So the gyro might be mouse based there.
No problem about the length. It's good to be enthusiastic and I'd much rather get half a book than a comment that is consists of max. 2 words (that sometimes don't even make sense).

@@dyXurChannel that is a first that someone has no problem with the length of my replies.
Valve could just have improved the controller for the pc croud. because the pc gyro croud has pretty much done all of the marketing for valve. and also made tutorials on how steaminput works with the steamcontroller.
the new steam controller is sadly jsut an offcial licensed gamepad from hori. it only has a touch capacative stick. and it works with steaminput out of the box without steam needing to emulate a ps4 or ps5 controller.
Flick stick changes the way the camera moves with the rightstick. the rightstick now changes the way your character is facing on the x axis. kind of like how a twinstick topdown shooter does.
So if i flick the stick back you turn 180 degess on the x asix in an instant. flick 90 degrees right and you turn 90 degrees to the right.
You can no longer look up and down with the sticks. you need gyro for that.
bassically how splatton also locks the right stick to the x axis only. but a continuation of that idea.
even on pc gyro is a bit of a problem. because mircorsoft doesnot support gyro. So 3e party Nintendo or playstation controllers are locked to either a ps4 or swithc mode.
So this means you cant have gyro and unique oinputs on the back buttons (only copies of already exisiting inputs). Controllers like those from flyydigi have software that allows you to remap the back buttons plus the gyro. so you can have unique inputs on the back by using keyboard controls.
Flydigi controllers are also fully supported by rewasd. so you can use flick stick, gyro and uniqueinputs on the back.
Secondly most pc games dont allow for gamepad and keyboard and mouse controls at the same time. or they awkwardly switch between the two. Wich limits you to having to remap keyboard and mouse controls to the gamepad.
mouse like gyro plus analog movement feels better then being limited to WASD movement. and some pc games also have either fake analog mouse controls instead of real mouse inputs. or the mouse uses horrible forced on acceleration. mouse accelration feels horrible in my opinion.
but this is because developers are so used to acceration based aiming system, that they dont know that raw mouse input is actually easier toc code.

I am very accustomed to forums, so that might be why. However even then I feel like no one should be against long comments (if they are not spam that is).
Hori at least know, what they are doing.
Oh ok. I thought flickstick might be something like thatm but was not too sure.
It seems like it boils down to a software issue, where most people don't care and the extra work is not worth it.
And yeah, mouse acceleration sucks. No idea, why it is even a thing anymore.
It's not even, that devs are "used to it", but more so that this is what the engine is using. Most games these days are either Unreal or Unity. So the default there is the default everywhere.

Yeah, but mostly older ones (e.g. quake 3) and "boomer shooters" (e.g. Dusk). And of course the one used in the video CoD World at War (mostly Zombies though).
