I’ve always wondered what it’s like to live at sea. I never had the opportunity until now, when I decided to go for it! In this first episode of my 'Life at Sea' series, I’m moving onto a traditional wooden Polynesian boat and getting ready to sail for the first time, down the Portuguese coast!
Some advice to any fellow travellers:
I had a very positive experience sailing for the first time but unfortunately, it isn't the case for everyone as some people have bad intentions, there are sexual predators out there and people can sometimes find themselves in potentially dangerous situations. So please take your safety precautions when travelling: ask questions, use your common sense and trust your instincts! If going sailing, especially alone, always do your research to assess if the boat, captain, and crew are safe, reliable and a happy match. Also, I recommend always telling someone you trust: who you’re sailing with, how long you might be away and your location if you know you might go off the grid for a while. I’m including resources and links to websites, groups and sailing communities where you can find blacklisted captains, find more information and meet other travellers. With a DIY wooden boat as a rookie sailor across the Atlantic. Wow, this is wild. Certainly not an average sailing channel … you deserve at least 100k subs for audacity alone. And then more for your cinematography. Really enjoyed it, will follow along.

WOW I'm absolutely hooked . As someone who sails offshore on my own boat I can tell you that this might be the coolest boat I've ever seen and the captain looks like he could write multiple books from his various sailing adventures. Enjoy the adventure of a lifetime.

Brazil is not a dangerous place for sailboats, especially if you choose the marinas and anchorages like Ilhabela, Paraty, Abrolhos and Noronha. If you have any doubts, just watch the passage of SV Delos through Brasil Ep. 172

I wish I could could get in my boat and head to warmer weather. Unfortunately, I made some decisions in life that have hampered this idea. I own 2 small businesses and need to work for about another 5 years. Then I will have a good income from my retirement funds.

It's not a ship. Only a military vessel is a ship. Everything else is a boat or a vessel.
In my understanding of English,(my native tongue) a boat can be put on a ship , a ship cannot be put on a boat . Further a boat at anchor rides to the wind . A ship rides to the current. Vessel is something that holds things , be it a wine glass or a super tanker. I work on a tugboat that assists container ships in and out of New York Harbor. Military has nothing to do with it.
There are cruise ships are ships not boats.
