This looks like a really fun movie. If this was live action, it would be a boring romantic comedy, but because it's animation it can be as visually insane, beautiful and bizarre as possible.

    • @DrDoggoat
      @DrDoggoat 6 лет назад +68

knowing japan's live action adaptation industry, when it inevitably gets a live action adaptation it is going to suck.
(See: Death Note. BOTH adaptations, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Not Crash, and finally saving the worst for last Mob Psycho 100.)
Oh but this looks amazing so long as it could just please stay animated.

TIM IS DEAD Japan’s life action industry can actually do one thing: adapting surreal comedies. Check out Gintama and Saiki K. Their content is so wacky that any fourth wall breaking makes total sense.

It is a fantastically animated movie with easy to interpret but hardly concrete messages as well as strong but lucid symbolism. The casts are wonderful and very enjoyable. A movie that seems much longer than it is. Dense and light. It hold tremendous weight in looks but feels like clouds when touched.

Icakie E I think it's worth watching at least once, since the art style is really remarkable and really adds to the absurdity of the story and the characters (in a good way), but I'm not sure if I would like to spend money on a movie ticket for it if you know what I mean. The movie is just hella weird. Its exactly as unpredictably weird as you would expect it to be. Then again, in movie theathers the experience is probably even more trippy, so if that's what you're going for then I would recommend it
Personally I'm still not sure if this movie is my cup of tea though, I think I'm gonna rewatch it x)

I've seen this movie; it's a real adventure, feels way longer than it is (in a good way) - ultimate form of entertainment, it always feels interesting but never overwhelming, great movie to watch while having a few drinks yourself. If you're a fan of The Tatami Galaxy there's a ton of references and characters that appear from it, but it is not necessary to have watched it to enjoy this movie (Though I highly recommend seeing it just because it's a truly unique and fascinating anime, the ending is oscar worthy, and it's only 11 episodes.)
If you're already really familiar with Masaaki Yuasa's directing works, I personally wouldn't say it's as profound in message as "Mind Game" (opinion) but the animation is still absolutely gorgeous and hanging around for the entire adventure will truly be an unforgettable experience in your life.
In general, if you're sick to death of anime tropes, Yuasa's works are a godscend. He makes media your non-otaku family and friends will enjoy too, you know? As long as they can tolerate subtitles of course. (Tatami Galaxy's subs are fast btw!)
Devilman Crybaby is definitely only for 18+ though. Lu Over The Wall is an amazing kid's movie my Totoro obsessed mom said she actually liked more than Totoro somehow (opinion). Anyone who tells you his best work is Ping Pong is a jackass - It's his least visually interesting work and unless you care about ping pong as a sport you'll be too bored to enjoy the psychological aspects of it. OPINION.

    Hi! I am a Japanese.
I have one thing that I want to ask you.
Which factors lure you to this movie?
I am a big fan of this extravagant work. I like not only this but also other Morimi Tomihiko works, particularly Tatami galaxy. However, it is true that his works are very redundant and so difficult to understand well that even some Japanese people say "how lame".
Needless to say, I enjoy watching this animation over and over again. But, I thought that is solely contributed to my strange personality.
However, now, I understand that a lot of people love this work all over the world.
That's why I want to know why foreign people who probably don't know Japanese culture or something love this work so much.
p.s. I want to discuss about "Night is short" and "Tatami". I am look forward to reply from my foreign friends.

I think it is probably more popular in the west because it is seen more as a novelty. Art movements like Surrealism didn't really take off in the same way in the US as they did in Japan. It's hard to come by flashy weird stuff here..so if people find something like that they really like, they'll probably come back for more, especially if it's made easily accessible. I wish arcades were still popular here, I miss claw machines (ufo catchers). :*)

Does anybody know where the audio for the main theme of this movie is, it's the one that plays throught the film that purely an instrumental and plays for the first time in the movie when Otomes in front of the vending machines near the beginning of the movie and is also the song that plays at the beginningof this trailer, I look up "Night is Short Walk on Girl song, or instrumental theme song and this (the ed) is the only thing that comes up, it's like the song dosen't exist.

I love anime with refreshing art styles. Like, don't get me wrong here, generic anime visually looks great but it can get really boring quickly because they all look the same.
So even if the storyline seems fairly plain, I like the art style~

January 29, 2019 in North America. I don't know as of yet whether or not it is just a Region 1 Blu-ray. But I'm psyched to add this movie to my collection. I saw it as part of a Fathom event at a local Cinemark and have been looking forward to adding it to my personal collection ever since. :-)
