I have never in my life seen such a beautiful piece of heaven on this earth.....so perfectly matched to a beautiful family to have as it's custodians.....heaven on earth is all I can say....
My but there are a lot of complainers on tonight. Just ignore them. I just love your family and how wonderful you all work together & support each other. Your home is just stunning and anyone can tell you are all grateful for this chance to work & live together.
I had a pool for many years and I cannot believe that your local pool store didn't tell you that all you need to do to clean the green pool water is to "shock" it with liquid chlorine and wait 'til the next morning and it will be sparkling clean. The amount of liquid chlorine you will need to pour in depends on how many liters of water are in the pool. Google it. You may find it only needs a couple of gallons of chlorine. You should also be checking the PH balance of the pool water once a week. You can pick up a PH kit at any pool store. You should throw in chlorine " hockey pucks" once or twice a week depending how many people are using it during that week. It's called a chlorine hockey puck because the tablet looks like a hockey puck. You should also remove leaves that fall into the water using a strainer type device that is on the end of a long pole. I know it sounds complicated but it really isn't. (1) check the pools PH balance once or twice a week. it takes less than 5 minutes to do. (2) Keep the pool clean of leaves or other crap using the strainer. (3) throw 2 chlorine hockey pucks into the pool twice a week if needed or perhaps just once a week. Shock the pool any time it starts to look a little green. Wait 24 hours before swimming in the pool after it has been shocked. I had my first pool when I was 64 years old and it was not hard to keep clean. Just follow the steps I pointed out and you will be fine. If I could do it easily, so can you . I almost forgot to mention that you should vacuum the pool generally every other week. Yes I said vacuum it. It can be done by you manually (which I did because I found it relaxing to do ) or you can buy a machine that you put into the pool and it goes all around the inside of the pool cleaning it. It's like the Roomba vacuum cleaner people use in their homes. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your pool expertise! We are still very much learning about how everything works. Our motto is, if we were experts at everything this project wouldn’t be so much fun. We have the “hockey pucks” now and I personally test daily as that is required for businesses here in France. We tried to treat the pool as we were recommended at the time with choline but the levels wouldn’t change and after a couple weeks we took the water into be tested. As for the decision to partially empty the pool we deferred to our local pool store expert who tested the water and recommended we drain at least half of the water based on the “off the charts” stabilizer levels. We should have been more explicit about this development in the video. I can only say that it can be challenging to give all the back story when you are “in action” and not staging a scene. I made the decision to full drain it because I hoped to paint it a darker blue (which ended up being a much larger project than I had hoped for) and personally I got a bit disgusted at the family of mice that had decomposed in the pool (we didn't show that for obvious reasons), and we wanted to bring in a pool renovation consultant to gives an estimate on more complete renovations we hope to do in a few years. It has been many years since the pool was refreshed, the correct chemicals seemed to have not always used over the years. But this gave us a chance to replace the cover for the main drain and the light which was halogen so it wasted way too much energy, and do full scrub that our Zyke Dolphin hasn’t managed to make so perfect. Thank you for such a thoughtful informed comment the expertise of our viewers really helps us as we navigate new waters. I will be sure to make notes all of your advice, as we do with this amazing network of knowledgable collaborators! Much love from Puy Vidal ❤ -Penelope
Love your team work lovely people. We had a pool same thing with the algae, cleaning, emptying out, pumps, chlorine, phd levels. It was a pain. That was just a medium family home pool not a Chateau pool. Also very costly so we got rid of it. Haha love the pool party. Carolina the lights are amazing your very skilled love it. You all work so tirelessly what a fabulous family you are and you do the work with joy as well ❤
The dining table was an incredible find. As to the lettuces, don't pull them. Cut the outer leaves and they will grow more. Once they finish the season, you can let them to to seed and save it for next years crop. I haven't bought lettuce plants or seed in years. The coral colored rose is gorgeous! The château is becoming even more beautiful.
I love how organized you all are, the whiteboard, the lists, everything is scheduled. You make a great case for how to accomplish so many tasks in quick succession. I am also amazed at how many things you are able to accomplish without professional help, it's awesome to see you take on tasks you've never done and be successful at them: The gardens, the pool, the kitchen burner swap out. I am truly in awe of all of you. It is so enjoyable to see you do so much but always take it in stride. And Trubadore is in heaven, always there to lend a paw. Great episode, I simply loved every minute of it!
It is obvious that you are a family who aren't afraid of doing hard work. Judging from what I've seen of people with chateaus that is a good thing. The pool looks wonderful. It would be hard to pry me out of it if I were there. It's also great to see that you are able to host guests and feel like all of the work has been for that end. I love the huge table you purchased. The legs in the middle of it are beautiful.
Love your channel and especially your story of your family working and living together. Everything looks fabulous!! Your hard work shows and Julias cinematography background really shines 👏 ❤
You guys are BEASTS! With that work ethic, there's no way you're not going to be successful. What a blessing that Aunt Emily was able to spot the trouble with the Ivy, before things were too far gone. Thanks again for the nice long video.
The drone footage was lovely and the gardens are beautiful. Everyone maintaining this chateau and gardens are working really hard. Well done all of you.
@@ladyofthechateau You're welcome! So nice to see summer dresses in a chateau - well, in France in general! they just go with the relaxed civilization there.
There are videos on RUclips from pool maintenance businesses that demonstrate how to use a 'floculent' product to kill the algae, then turn off pool so you can remove the filters and soak them in floculent using something like a large, new garbage can. Next vacuum up the dead algae that will fall to bottom of pool. Rinse off the filters well and replace in pool equipment, turn on the system and chlorinate the pool as someone below recommended. My husband and I had to do this after a haboob blew into eastern SoCal and turned our crystal clear pool into an algae filled swamp a few years ago. We were in our late 60's and never had a pool before. Thank heavens for RUclips. Our pool became pristine again, and easy to maintain with weekly water ph testing, proper use of chemicals, and IMPORTANTLY, on a weekly basis using an automated pool vacuum that runs itself around the pool effortlessly. Your family is lovely and it's been so fun to see what you've accomplished at your beautiful chateau.
Every time I watch I’m amazed at the beauty of your Chateau. Everything is spectacular. You are so fortunate to have found this special place. Your family is doing a wonderful job with everything. Wow the garden is jumping out of the ground. Enjoy your beautiful Chateau ❤️
I have never had an in ground pool but have had above ground for many years. A tip I learned was to use Baking Soda instead of very pricey PH adjusters. Another tip is ALWAYS make sure your chlorine hasn’t run out and every week shock it!! But usually with the use of baking soda weekly you will not need to shock it. And also make sure pool filters are kept clean. Usually spray then with a hose. 😊 tips I wish I had learned early in pool life.
The table is divine, now a crystal chandelier to complete the room. Always pick outside lettuce leaves until plant looks spent as I am sure your aunt has said . She is Fab! I bet she moves over ,she would make a great addition. Has your head gardener thought about gaining A younger person to help and pass on advice and knowledge as when your business grows you will have less time to do so. As for moving your business ,what happens when painters arrive? I agree you need to be in separate wing but different room . Make a real office you will need it. Other tower, old cottage , somewhere. Love the chateaux ,it will guide you, it is happy. Good job.

You will be having banquets there very soon I’m sure……..can’t wait to enjoy seeing it all. Penelope you did a great job on that pool. Enjoy all your hard work. God bless all of you!
I loved every minute of your vlog! A few moments it feels like I'm walking around with you and then I feel like I'm watching documentary. The editing is superb! The music is wonderful! My favorite part was watching Troubadour jump over the garden bench. I literally laughed out loud! Thank you for sharing all of your hardworking family and life.
The pool looks amazing. The table is incredibly beautiful. That Ivy is horribly invasive. I am glad you separated your business area from your home area. Troubadour is a lovely dog. I loved the dance rave in the pool. The curtain lesson will come in very handy.❤
This was a spectacular video. Your are such a beautiful and hardworking family. I so look forward to your stunning chateau and lives, they are so inspiring. What you are doing with the chateau is amazing and so generous, sharing so much with everyone. You transport viewers, making them feel that they are right there with you. I wish there were a Time Machine that would transport us back to when this chateau was in it’s infancy. I love history and you are definitely making it live once more in these videos. Kudos to a wonderful, graceful and loving family.
Ivy is an epiphyte. The best way to kill it is to saw the main root at the base. And leave a clear band free so it dies. You left the main trunk and as I know it will come back!! Cleared many a tree in my garden in the U K this way but also getting it out of our hedges too.
What a fabulous team you are. It is a joy to see you working together to achieve something special. Each of you seem to be genuinely lovely people - I'm so happy for you all.
The gardens of that estate are phenomenal. I mean, they are really exceptional. Hope you got your boxwood worm issue resolved. Also, I’m loving that Carolina wore an Ace Hardware shirt in the middle of France at a chateau! She’s a country girl for sure! It was perfect!
Lovely video showing all the hard work and inspiration......don't forget to put an animal exit ladder or ramp in the pool. This is not the same as a people ladder. Pets and wildlife drown in swimming pools as they can't pull themselves out like we can.
We tried that as usual for three weeks to no avail. The pool experts at our local store tested the water and found the stabilizer and the alkalinity were so far out of balance that they suggested we drain the pool, as they were concerned no amount of product would be able to rebalance it.
Well done team- the pool is fantastic, great to see Penelope was the only one brave enough to get in! (From what we could see on the episode) Tell me what sort of filtration system do you have. You have all done so well and we are so proud of your achievements. 👍😇✌️🏰🙏🇫🇷
Thank you for sharing your life with us! I look forward to new videos and it’s exciting to see a new one posted. The pool looks amazing! Enjoy the summer and your beautiful chateau ❤️
I am so impressed by the many talents you all have. You work so hard and get along so well. Most people would hire teams of experts. Just the pool job was humongous! Love all of you and happy for you! Janice from Arkansas USA
Providing a drink AND music for your guest who was helping you is great hospitality! I love how y'all work so hard but then do fun things like dance in the empty pool. Of course Penelope the mermaid took charge of the pool project. That aristocrat porcelain seemed very unusual. Do you know how old it was? I love that you're letting the guests not only help but rummage through the chateau's treasures. I wonder if there were extra pool tiles in that area where the construction supplies are. Having such a large estate means you really can't know what is there, at least for a while, when you have so much work to do. Treasures!
Keeping the ph balance in the pool was always a task, especially after rain which affects it greatly. All your lovely shrubs around are probably going to cause daily cleaning of leaves but hey ho. Wonderful when they are working well. Sometimes with vegetable gardening, it pays to only put in 6 (or whatever) of something, wait a couple of weeks and then plant another 6, to spread out the times of readiness a little. You will become familiar with amounts that you use and work it out for yourselves no doubt. I can tell you that lettuces grow, even in the cooler months just not the worst of winter. Best wishes.
Hey, ladies ! 🙂 Thanks for the video. In French, in medieval time, those gardens you were speaking about (the monk garden) were called "Jardin des Simples" : "Simple" was the name given to medicinal herb or plant. If ever you go to Paris, you can see one at the Musée de Cluny 🙂

I just love your vlogs and they just keep getting better and better, its great how your family all work together and I do love Penelope she is so fun loving and has such a good head on her shoulders and always so enthusiastic with the chateau projects and the pool looked great especially with those lights Carolina put in, its exactly what a chateau needs, and wow Julia that table was such a great find I cant wait to see it all set up with your mums finest china and those plates were also another great find and very pretty, also the hard work your mum put into sanding that door really paid off as it looks so much better now you can see the natural wood grain, and your dad and his twin sister did such a great job with all that ivy and the pool area, you all work together every time and its such a lovely thing to see and thankyou for sharing it all with us, it is much appreciated and Im looking forward to your next vlog♥️👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Hello. I have seen many chateaux channels already. At the beginning of watching your channel I was very skeptical since you dont do the typical renovation projects like many of them out there. But them I binge watched all the videos. I absolutely love your chateaux, it is exactly what I would buy myself and I love Angouleme, so perfect location as well. You all are living my life dream and I respect you to do it as a family. Thank you very much for allowing us to take part in your journey. I would love to visit one day, also cause I love art but unfortunately as of right now I cannot afford it. I find your concept very special, if I may ask why did you decide not have normal bookings like on airbnb? Only the retreats and workshops? Also after seeing all the videos I wanted to ask what are your next plans and if you could provide us with some ground plans or take us through all the rooms, since for me its very hard to imagine what is where. I would je curious to see your second floor or third my some standards. Are you planning on doing something with it? Is your room one of those? Do you own some outbuildings and a pool house as well? The last remark, if I were you I could not not go to your east tower and see every piece in there 😂 do you have any plans with that tower? Thank you again for your great work 🎉
Love your Chateau and channel. Would ask that maybe invest in some good wireless microphones. I sometimes have to strain to hear Julia….she is very soft spoken, especially in shops and brocantes. Dad is softspoken, too. Kudos on camera work. Your experience shines through,

I love how you take so much time and care to make sure that your guests are happy and comfortable! I watch another Chateau channel that seems to treat their guests like a burden. Was so lovely to watch how you wanted to spend time with your guests, learning and working together, making the chateau experience fun instead of very lonely for people that might come alone.
Submersible Pump, just get stabiliser, get ph correct, then Chlorinate, that water will be blue in 24 hrs. I would filled it up with water. Don’t repair right now. Get it fibrelined in late Spring next yr. Once spring rains are done you need a few days sunshine in a row. Got our own pool company
Thank you for the feedback! Caring for a pool is a new experience for all of us, so we are taking notes on how to treat it and maintain it consistently.
Just a garden hose (or thicker pool hose) can be used to syphon the water out of a pool pretty quickly even without a pump. You can do it overnight: pull the end of the hose (that's in the pool) JUST up to the level where you want it to drain to, then suck the hose to get it moving. The water level draining will stop once the syphoning chokes on air.
What a delightful vlog………spent the whole time watching with a smile on my face. Just love how you all pull together to get challenging jobs done. Well done! Ps, just take the outside leaves of the lettuce, they’ll keep giving all summer.

Gosh you are such a lovely family, and are inspiring! 😍I did get nervous about the pool however, I too am renovating a pool and there is a concern regarding "pool shock". It happens when electricity enters the pool or coping. I would have an electrician recheck the light to make sure the sealant is completely sealed so there is no chance of electrocution or other types of pool shock. There should also be a copper grounding wire on the pool filter to stop electricity underground from traveling into your pool. In other words the pool needs to have its grounding checked and the light rechecked to make sure that no electricity will become exposed to water in future. ☺
guys looking after a pool is a very specialized subject!! get the experts in to look after it at least for summer.. you need the correct mix of chemicals.. it will turn green very quickly as soon as you take your eye off it.. sorry but we tried looking after ours!!! doesn’t work!! get a pool guy.. trust me..gosh your place always stunning.. and great work ethic ❤

What a fabulous team you are. It is a joy to see you working together to achieve something special. Each of you seem to be genuinely lovely people - I'm so happy for you all.
the table and chairs are gorgeous
The gardens of that estate are phenomenal. I mean, they are really exceptional. Hope you got your boxwood worm issue resolved. Also, I’m loving that Carolina wore an Ace Hardware shirt in the middle of France at a chateau! She’s a country girl for sure! It was perfect!
Lovely video showing all the hard work and inspiration......don't forget to put an animal exit ladder or ramp in the pool. This is not the same as a people ladder. Pets and wildlife drown in swimming pools as they can't pull themselves out like we can.
My pool has been greener and all you have to do is shock and filter it. Works like a dream.
We tried that as usual for three weeks to no avail. The pool experts at our local store tested the water and found the stabilizer and the alkalinity were so far out of balance that they suggested we drain the pool, as they were concerned no amount of product would be able to rebalance it.
So very proud of y’all 🌸
You are such a wonderful family , all very interesting characters
You deserve to have a lot more subscribers , maybe you should have a video weekly
Love your can-do attitudes! So great to see you tackle every project. I bet the Texas family had an amazing time!!!
You all do so much work but I love watching your journey , I'm going to add your chateau to beautiful places I would dream of visiting
Well done team- the pool is fantastic, great to see Penelope was the only one brave enough to get in! (From what we could see on the episode) Tell me what sort of filtration system do you have. You have all done so well and we are so proud of your achievements. 👍😇✌️🏰🙏🇫🇷
Love this huge update! So much work has been done, more video of your luscious garden? Yes please!
They could probably grow all kinds of veg even in winter because of where they're located in France & with cold frames, anything is possible.
If you want the pool repainted in the fall, you should make an appt now. Fall will be busy.
Oh thanks for sharing this little nugget of history. What a wonderful recommendation :)
Bonjour,
Wow! Love to see the progress you've made ❤️ The pool & the light look awesome. And the Gardens are producing Wonderful Flowers & Vegatables 🌸🌿🌷🥬🍅🫛🥕
Wonderful video. I enjoyed. Blessings.
I love your channel! Classy, beautiful home and a treat for the senses. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤❤
Well, you always learn something new everyday ! I had NO idea ‘ Ivy League “ colleges got their collective name from the plant ivy . Makes prefect sense now ! love how Robert always shares his extensive knowledge so eloquently, gently and informatively . Your channel is my favourite and I so admire your work ethic , vision, talents and evident love for one another
Thank you again for your great work 🎉
Love your wonderful camaraderie in everything you do.
Beautiful home, garden and especially people. ❤
Tile it with a mosaic tile ❤
Happy Pride!
🎶 WLW, they get the job done 🛠️
Happy Pride TO YOU as well !!!! WLW 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Love your Chateau and channel. Would ask that maybe invest in some good wireless microphones. I sometimes have to strain to hear Julia….she is very soft spoken, especially in shops and brocantes. Dad is softspoken, too. Kudos on camera work. Your experience shines through,
Loving how everyone pitches in. Including the guests!
Beautiful drone shots helps to get a better feel of your magnificent property. Everything looks fabulous.
Wonderful episode…thanks for sharing!

Mil Gracias y saludos hasta Puerto Rico
Thanks for the journey!!
I can only imagine how much your water bill was. So glad that you did this video as I have been missing you all
Wow! So much work but also is lovely to see you all so happy! Love this channel, thanks for sharing your experience with us ♥️
So enjoyed your video tonight. Love to see so much talent and cooperation.

Thanks for taking us all along on your journey! It’s wonderful to see new life at the chateau and the care and love you are giving it! Bon courage!
I’m sure those people will definitely be back.😊❤
Wow busy bees !! Great to see your lives at the beautiful château!
Your place is so incredibly beautiful! I can’t even imagine the amount of work you have to do everyday. Good on you all.🤗🇨🇦
Wow the progress on the pool was really something! Turned out beautifully. The garden is thriving and so are you all. Love your vlogs.
So much diverse talent all in one home, And yes my new favorite tool is a Bosch Angle Grinder too. 😂
What a delightful vlog………spent the whole time watching with a smile on my face. Just love how you all pull together to get challenging jobs done. Well done!
Ps, just take the outside leaves of the lettuce, they’ll keep giving all summer.
Oh interesting! We will give that a try 🥬

Another wonderful vision of paradise... and my favourite chateau dog, Troubadour
Quilt retreat at the Chateau would be a dream come true!❤
Ooooo lovely idea!!!!! Let us know if you’d like to organize one someday!
guys looking after a pool is a very specialized subject!! get the experts
