    Hi Jen, a great vlog of self-reflection! One thing you probably got about Czechs by now is that any mistake, no matter how small, will be identified, mercilessly scrutinized, and corrected on the spot! May be due to the education system. The fact that on occasion there may be several conflicting corrections will be graciously overlooked. Alternative facts anyone?

    • @Turagrong

    • @ondrejandydlohos
      @ondrejandydlohos 3 года назад +5

      True, another problem of the czech education. We deeply focus on the history, almost not learning past 100 years in school (and also just in the lasts years of high schools), just a little bit of information about what we should be aware of and learning from. But we know exactly what happened in 1415, why that king in middle ages killed his brother and took his wife and how many antic philosophers you would need to change a light bulb. Super important! 😁

    • @beth12svist
      @beth12svist 3 года назад

      @@ondrejandydlohos "how many antic philosophers you should need to change a lightbulb" :D
      But it's true that the more recent history often gets a very quick runthrough at the end of the school year...
      When I was attending the special history class for my maturita in history, our teacher specifically decided to focus on the 20th century history of "the Third World" the whole year (aside from preparation for the maturita questions) because that's something you _never_ have time for in regular lessons, yet it influenced 20th (and 21st) century history a lot. It has been, indeed, priceless for understanding a lot of things...
      ... but I feel that's actually a gap in the education we share with the US. :-)

    • @ondrejandydlohos
      @ondrejandydlohos 3 года назад +1

      @@beth12svist Would you believe me that I totally forgot I wrote this joke? I've just read it now and had a proper laught 😁
      Yeah I can imagine. We should know something about the history, for sure. But the amount of information we are getting of very past ages are enormous and last century is just "meh". I also chose a "Second half of the 20th century" as a special subject in my 4th grade on highschool just because I was curious. It's really weird that schools put this so much aside. Also in other countries.
      And then you are asking yourself why so many people for example vote for Communist party.
      But it also might be residuum of communist approach to teaching. They didn't want us to know, what happened in last ten years and before. And thus this whole process might evolve even deeper and more crazy. This is just my idea, what could happen, I am not sure that it happened exactly like this, but I can imagine it.

Two Thrupences = A Sixpence. Two Sixpences = One Shilling, or Bob. Two Bob = A Florin. One Florin and one Sixpence = Half a Crown. Four Half Crowns = Ten Bob Note. The imperial system divides the pound into 240 bits which is great for further division by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, ... etc. 100 can only be divided by 2, 4, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50. @@Likexner that system may come from sumerian counting system. They used system with base 60. Our counting of angles is a remainder thereof. It was taken over by arabs, who also took over indian decimal system, got them all mixed with their own system(s) and when they invaded europe, they brought it all with them. What counting base is used in which sphere was heavily influenced mainly by who developed the mathematical field. Angle theory was developed mainly by the Arabs, taken over by the sumers, so that is why we use 60 base. Math fields which were developed in Greece prefered to use 10 base system, so that is why it is prevalent in arithmetics. For the greeks, 10 was considered a perfect number, mainly because of pythagorean school, and they even ascribed magical powers to it. The history of counting systems is pretty fascinating.

    Well, I think there always was a "cold war" between Bohemia and Moravia. Both sides hate something about the other side and spear rumors (and most of the rumors or jokes are on Moravia, so they mostly just defend themself) about that, etc. But nowadays I think it's a little bit cool down, cause now Moravia is fighting with Prague, and sometimes Bohemia helps them with that. The world mostly sees only Prague, not the whole Czech republic, and they believe that they visit Prague they will know Czech culture, etc. Because of that Bohemia is starting to disappear under the light of Prague and I believe that they don't like it too.
    I also hear an opinion that Prague is the Czech Republic, also one politician said that in Brno... I'm surprised that he is still alive too.
