      That’s the British justice system for you! If Sutcliffe had done what he did in the US, he would either be sitting in a jail cell for the rest of his life, or he would’ve gotten the death penalty.

      sadly a life sentence in the UK can be as little as 14 years out in 7 and a half...it's getting a little better now but not by much. Whilst our justice system is pretty good the punishment system is awful skewed.

      I believe he had 20 consecutive life sentences with the possibility of parole in 30. The good news is he spent the rest of his life in prison and died in 2020 from Covid.

      @@tonydoherty2190nobody ever asked why the police would want leniency for sutcliffe if he was really responsible for all the murders he confessed to.

    He wasn’t a “mass murderer” cuz that term belongs to a person who kills many people all at once.
    Peter was a “serial killer” who killed many people over time with a “cooling off period” in between kills.

      A serial killer not a mass murderer.

    • @thefamilyname1
      @thefamilyname1 6 месяцев назад

      That term wasn't coined till after his case. During those days serial killers were called mass murderes because they had killed a mass of people. Serial killer became a term I think in the mid 80s or late 80s; once criminal behavior profiling and understanding serial killers and studies conducted on violent criminals that's when the term appeared.

      Two jurors weren't convinced that he was responsible for all the murders he had confessed to. They probably smelt a plea bargain deal by bent cops to wipe the slate clean. Why would they want to give the ripper, of all criminals, leniency?

      @@gayham correct but he was a copycat killer and the police framed him as the ripper. They made disastrous tactical decisions that they couldn't afford to be exposed to the public. Sutcliffe had them over a barrel.

    6 men. 6 women. 6 hours. Coincidence i think not. It was destined that they would take 6 hours with both 6 men and 6 woman. Making the number 666. A number that describes the Yorkshire ripper very well
