That is true. Most of the time when I roll in as Zarya, people don't know what to do, especially since I am quite good with the barrier management. There's only been a small handful of matches where I've gotten killed quite a bit as Zarya and that was because the enemy team had a really good Tracer and people on my team couldn't eliminate that Tracer quickly so it would come over by me all the time.
Lots of things work on Zaryas that have barriers on cool down though. Reinhardt pins, road hog hooks, McCree stuns followed up by focus fire. People just don't think of those things because against Zarya you have to play more strategic and can't automatically just overcome by aiming for a head.

most of them are shitty indeed, the only good one is Siberian front. the name doesn't make sense though, SIBERIAN front? i guess they are talking about the omnic crisis but in the real world there was no real war in Siberia, maybe renaming it to Western front, but then it still wouldn't make any sense because it's not THAT cold in the European side of Russia, am i reading too far into this?

ya zarya is a type of character that works well with teamwork and dive heavy comps. I've had games where i was useless as zarya because no one was coordinated and/or never making any pushes to dictate putting an orb on them.
When the entire meta is dictated by who has the better Zarya, there is a problem.
Well it was the exact same way with Rein. Nothing really changed other than people started realizing Zarya's potential. I think the best solution is just more characters that upset the meta.

Well in regards to her kit it is op, but it comes with an extreme drawback of are you good enough to pull it off. After you use bother shields get to 100 energy are you going to be able to live with slow movement track enemies and pick off the members of the enemy team. On top of that the other question is can you get 100 energy. Zarya is op if the enemy lets her be strong which they have to do in this meta to not lose to reaper. She is strong but with drawbacks making he kit good but not op.
How do you suggest to kill a Zarya?

I don't really thin buffing everyone else just to compensate for one character is necessarily a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I thin some guys deserve buffs, but doing that may only cause more problems in the game play than fix.
The same way you kill any tank in this game: Reaper to the face. Or, depending on the map, boot her off a cliff.

The triple jump was not a glitch, i bet it was intented, it was even a tip in loading screen, my bet is they removed it cause complaints, and deflect hitboxes arent too big, even a fucking roadhog can hook you through you, happened to me
Potato Faggot deflect isn't meant to cheese every single ability in the game, it never deflected Hog's hook the same way it didn't deflect Winston's lightning or Zarya's particle beam. Genji still has the best mobility in the game, can still do real good dmg both at close and medium range, still has a terrifying ulty that wipes whole teams and still is one of coolest heroes :P
His deflect hitbox has a large radius beyond his body, so basically you can MISS a shot and still have it deflected back to you, that's absurd.
Zarya just needs a counter. I'm hoping that Sombra has an ability that acts like a grenade and makes players unable to use any abilities for a brief period of time except for their mouse (left and right click) weapons.

Reinhardt isn't actually that much of a counter to Zarya, so much as he is the most reliable way to build up energy on the shields for her. It's sort of a D.Va/Junkrat situation in that both of them technically counter each other depending on the situation.

I agree. Also i don't like how there nothing goes through her bubbles, look at Dva's defense matrix or genji's deflect. There are solid counters to both of them, whereas Zarya, I feel like there are only semi counters.

She and Mccree are pretty much perfectly balanced atm.
+Ambition Achiever lucio is fairly well balanced. he's got such a high pick rate as he's generally useful in most situations.
Junk rat is pretty balanced gotta Hit shots to do anything And the Bombs Move Slow as hell.

McCree is balanced, but lopsided. Every aspect of his kit is useless with the exception of LMB. That's not good character design.

+Aerolite08 spoken like someone who has very little play time on Mercy. That blaster is supremely underrated; it's one of the best weapons in the game for countering Bastion or Torb turrets.
I was talking about a game in which all 12 players are Mercy and people aren't shy about taking cover.

he isn't overpowered... to be honest he is pretty balanced, the only reason he is a must pick is because of his speed boost which no other hero has, allowing for a quick push, faster respawns and overall sustain for the team.
I agree, Lucio isn't really game breaking, but more of a utility; not completely necessary just REALLY useful.
The reason is his kit. The only way he will ever not be in the meta is if he no longer had a speed boost. His primary fire is ass, his secondary is situational, healing is mostly pretty good (but potentially outdone by better healers that prioritize targets correctly). His speed boost allows him to control fights and escape ults. And his ult is pretty good in a team fight.
That being said... I despise everything about him.

Crystar I don't like AOE healing, his wall rides are stupid to me, IMO Rez is a better ult... he's just echhhh. Nothing to do with his performance, I just don't like how he plays.

All are viable, some are just better. That is how every competitive game works.
It's call the meta, zarya is the strongest at the meta atm because she is being used more, the more she is used, the more things you learn. Overtime someone would find a way to beat the zarya meta by learning others characters.

Tf2 has been around since 2007 and competiive teams are composed of mostly the same characters: Scout, medic, soldier, damoman and the last one can be another scout or soldier. Tf2 simply accepted the fact that there are character that just will not be as effective on competitive instead os striving for a perfect game that just isn't going to exist. I get Blizzards point but the only thing they do is make characters unstable imo.
Games shouldn't just be balanced for the pro scene. The point of balancing is to attempt to make the game "fair" for all levels of play. No one cares that that fucking dwarf isn't seen at pro level. Seriously, the only people who have any shred of care in the world for Torb are probably Bastion mains. I don't know if your "found the Zarya main" comment is meant to be insulting, but either way, Zarya is perfectly fine to main because she can work in almost any situation.
Unlike Hanzo, Widow, and DPS mains...
Zarya is the essence of balance, a tank who is good when working in a team but useless when no one is working with her or vice versa. Like a lot of heroes who are often called "OP", she just needs a better counter. There will always be an optimal "pro meta", like any pro sport there's usually some right answer to win according to the rules, but the game is pretty diverse and balanced in mid-level play which makes it more fun.

This whole "Zarya is balanced for less skilled players so she is balanced overall" sentiment is why I gave up on Overwatch.
I wanted this game to be a cool Esports game, following teams that use a variety of tactics and compositions. But its the same god damn comp every time. Zarya, Reinhartd, Lucio, Ana, McCree, Genji and the only variation is its a 4x2, 3x3 or 2/2/2 comp. The esport scene is SO dull. And even on the level I played at, every time, I couldnt play Roadhog or Mei because "DAMN YOU WE NEED A ZARYA OR LUCIO". I just hate it. So god damn dull.
They could just have all characters have the same skill cap. So that more heroes get to shine at pro levels. Make Zarya weaker, but easier to get her full potential. Like make her do less damage, but increase the hitbox on her Beam.
I know people will hate this, but for the average player, she wont be nerfed at all. She will still do the same kind of damage, since she hits a lot more. But at the pro scene, she isnt as much of a must have.
You stopped playing overwatch because of that? What do you play now? I guess I kind of agree with you, but I just woudln't let their suggestions get to you, if you want to play mei, play mei. If they don't like it, you can mute them. I realize it's a somewhat flawed game, I think every game is. But I still think its more fun than most out there.

It is litterally impossible to have every character have the same skill cap, if Blizzard tried to balance with that philosophy, they would never get anything done, and wouldn't be able to bring out new content.
I actually think shes one of the most balanced heros.
All we have to do to find out if Zara is too strong is to compare her kit and her numbers to the rest of the heroes. The kit is great, She can do a lot of things and do them well, this is why she's a must pick in every high elo game. She protects teammates by giving them a temporary shield that removes and makes a hero invulnerable to all crowd control which she can use twice at the same time, also on herself. Half of her health regenerates on it's own and she has twice as much HP as most heroes. The invulnerable to CC shielding GIVES her more damage, a LOT of damage, and it's relatively easy to get charge. Shield yourself, go in there and trade. She always wins that trade. She'll quickly get enough charge to become un-manageable, even against healers and other tanks. Despite being a bona-fide tank, her character model is small making her hit box the smallest of all the tanks, slightly larger than DPS heroes. she has the best ultimate in a game with a lot of strong ultimates. So she has a lot of health which regenerates on it's own, she does a lot of damage, and has some of the best utility in the game, AND her ultimate can easily wipe an entire enemy team, and she doesn't always need help in doing that. Part of the problem with Zarya's power is that the hero pool in Overwatch is very poor. Zarya has no natural counters in a 6v6 team game. There are no heroes the enemy team can take that will naturally counter Zarya, except another Zarya and that's not even a counter. She has no mobility abilities but that doesn't hurt her too much. She punishes anyone dumb enough to get in range, and her range is plenty good enough. She's clearly the best tank in the game. If we want to talk about a balanced hero, Reinhardt is it, not reaper or anyone else. Reinhardt has strengths and weaknesses that the other team can exploit, and it's not too hard. Zarya has no weaknesses. If she had one it would be if she were caught alone by a Tracer, or her lower mobility, but those two things don't have enough of an impact. She's never alone in a game where rat-pack or die is the mentality, and if she is, that team has probably already lost. When a hero is so good that it must get picked in high elo, something is wrong. Either Zarya is too strong or other heroes aren't good enough. People used to talk about how Genji was responsible for the most team kills of all heroes, but he's been nerfed. And we can't rely on Blizzard increasing the hero pool, (it's very poor) which could also bring Zarya closer to where Blizzard intends all the heroes to be; balanced. I think the video said she was balanced, but they're mislabeling balance with power. It would be dumb not to have a Zarya on any game mode, she's that good. She brings too much to the table, it makes other heroes unviable, like D.Va. There's a good reason why D.Va isn't played a whole lot, not nearly as much Zarya. This indicates an imbalance. High pick rate and high win rate are classic signs of an imbalance. Even Blizzard said that they recognized in beta how dangerous Zarya could become to the metagame, and that have been watching Zarya closely. And people are catching on to the fact that Zarya is a bit too good at the moment. They could fix this by either nerfing Zarya, buffing other heroes, or releasing more heroes, and they aren't going to release a lot of heroes to mitigate a specific hero being too good or too bad. This discussion has been hashed and rehashed by the League of Legends community for years and years and DoTA before that. This isn't something that we're just now discovering, this is a discussion about game balance that is well defined, we know what to look for and how to fix them, if only people will do the research.
What Freedo wants us to think: Zarya is not OP, it's okay, she can be left alone and continue appear in every match.

Zarya is like way scary, she'll fucking murder you and do it all without resorting to cheese and is capable of pressing a button to turn your nuke into power for herself. She's a bomb hero and I have some good experience with her.

Whenever you see that a zarya is doing really good try to switch to either Tracer or Reaper.
Reaper can simply shred her and Tracer out maneuvers her right click and can kill her after a few seconds
Zarya main here - she is OP in current meta. She needs more viable counters.
Bastion is a good counter to zarya as he can melt through her Shields and health in seconds

I don't know about tracer, but as a reaper main zarya consistently seems the most difficult to kill. At least with roadhog I can at least try to dodge his bullshit hook, get behind bastion, etc
Zarya however, I notice I almost never stand a chance unless she's lost some health already. Otherwise I can forget her lol
I think Zarya is fine, but the only thing they should change on her is the easy charge exploit from firestrike, symmetra orbs and dragon blade. I don't think blizzard intended that those abilities hit her twice and give her instant 50 charge.
Zarya is my go-to tank and usually my team prospers of it a great deal, since I'm pretty good at her now.
However, there is nothing in Overwatch that can't be easily countered with a bit of skill and teamwork, Zarya is no exception.
It wouldn't hurt to have a good counter to her though, but since she is so incredibly balanced in all her aspects (jack of all trades etc), I'm not sure how you'd go about that. Right now a Roadhog-Reaper combo work wonders, or, a lot more common, a Counter-Zarya.
EDIT: I'm talking platinum meta on both PC and PS4 here, can't tell you how it's elsewhere.

That is correct. If you pin before zarya get shielded, you die. You cannot put your shield up during the pin too, gotta be before rein catches you. but for others you can throw shield during their charge time. It's hilarious when rein charges into my team enemy mercy or any squishy and I pop the shield on them and kill rein from the energy.
Multiple Zarya's on teams in quick play ARE unbalanced, but I bet no one cares. I just wanna play the competitive rule set without the skill level risk sometimes. Like if I'm trying to warm up and get my marksmanship locked in I hate going against meme teams that have 4+ of the same hero
Blizzard has already stated that they will make a separate game mode of Quick play with the competitive ruleset. So stop complaining.

Complaints and opinions aren't exclusive to each other. Therefore he is complaining.
Zarya is strong at high levels because of the great team coordination. It's extremely difficult for even a skilled Zarya to get utility out of her at low levels due to the lack of coordination. There's a similar issue with Ana and Mercy, where at platinum level there's a general awareness of how the game should be played even if the mechanical skill isn't top notch. A smart support player can singlehandedly swing a momentum shift in a game as Mercy far better than they would as Lucio or Zen, simply because the revive often forces out more enemy ults than SB/transcendance. They also charge it very quickly if multiple tanks are sticking close to the choke/focal points. However, once you break towards diamond level, people have more mechanical skill and Ana simply has more utility than Mercy, which part of the reason why Ana is so popular on the pro scene.
Pretty much summed it up. I use Zarya a ton and if my team stays in my vicinity and pushes payloads or objectives with me, I am a powerhouse. If everyone scatters though and often leaves me or just one other person with me to defend an area or move a payload, I don't do as well.
I believe one point here made is very important: Zarya is extremely effective when (/only if) she synergies with the team. And this is the purpose of Overwatch. She is one of the perfect Heroes in this sense. As someone said in a comment below: the focus should be on improve other Heroes' synergies, not nerfing characters that work well.
More importantly, don't forget that Zarya's shield can absorb 200hp, it doesn't make invulnerable. Just hit her strong with a couple of heroes, or use Roadhog to drag her towards your team, and she is dead.
I love playing against Zarya as Widowmaker, as she's just a big target running in slow-motion. It's always fun to get the first headshot, and then see Zarya run for cover. She's really bad against ranged burst damage.
As for the meta, I feel like people constantly forget that Overwatch is still a very new game. When you consider the fact that it's only a little over four months old, it's actually a really well balanced game.

All Blizzard needs to do to balance Zarya is remove the effect of the bubble that removes and prevents debuffs like flashbang, hook, ect.

Zarya is a high skill cap hero, they shouldn't touch her. If Blizzard doesn't want people to use her too much then they need to add new heroes. Maybe someone who can do something like she can or a hero that properly counter her
Freedo, I believe that Zarya isn't built to have many counters. Overwatch should be a rock paper scissors game, she has an ability that cannot be countered: her bubbles. Nothing can counter that ability, nothing can pass through her bubbles. I'd like to nerf Zarya, but not in the way you think. Make her regenerative shields be 80-100 instead of 200 regenerative shields. That's just me dabbling around the subject

Zarya's counter is anyone that can disrupt the synergy of a team. If she can't make good team-plays than she loses most of her potency.
D.Va definitely doesn't need a buff, and should in fact, have a bit of a nerf. The fact that her Ulti doesn't do self damage is one of the worst things about this game.

The only reason they made her invincible to her own ult was so they could decrease the timer so it could be viable. Using SD after your mech is destroyed would be a death sentence. If they made her die from it, they'd need to up the timer again. Anyway, Zarya could just bubble D.Va's ult and kill her, as a D.va main I know the struggles of fighting a Zarya. The only time I can confidently do it is when nanoboosted! The only other time is when she is alone, no bubble and no charge. I was originally just going to reply to the D.Va comment but I went off on a tangent. :|
If bastion gets a lock on her the bubble breaks very very fast. I've also seen pharahs ult break down her bubble and kill her. Zarya is fine right now. If anything, her ult needs to charge faster to keep up with other very powerful ults like Reinhardt and Mei. RH can use his ult and almost have it ready again by the time it expires.
looking at the comments and watching this video im gonna agree with freedo. its not that she herself is overpowered and needs to be nerfed, her potential (because if i say direct people will get angry) counters need to be buffed to her level. i agree that widow and other long range characters could easily counter her as they are never in immediate danger and can just focus her down without worry. all the other teammates just have to back off out of her range while their long range support does its job
I do feel like Soldier 76 is perfectly viable at any range, in close range he can utterly shred an enemy. Fill them with lead and one blast of Helix Rockets, and they will go down pretty quick. Survivability greatly increases with the Biotic Field, and he can Dash away from danger. Which is what I do, and I end up surviving a lot as him. I am most handy as Soldier 76, but I'm practicing McCree too, but I definitely enjoy playing as Soldier 76 more. I am trying to get better at aiming and tracking with Soldier, landing those crucial headshots more. But I digress... I actually agree that Zarya doesn't need nerfing and is fine. I am not always consistent with her (like with many heroes), but when I am playing well as her I am doing REALLY well. She requires a lot of skill in order to play properlly! :)
S76 is viable... until you play against a God McCree where you physically can't compete mathematically, despite how good you are. McCree simply has more potential. -F

I think that soldier does need something done to him if he is to be picked for a reason other then an inferior mccree.

Thanks for posting this. I feel like many videos recently have been trying to stir up random controversy over Zarya being OP for some reason simply because she scales with skill, and therefore the pros get a ton of mileage out of her. Rather than make a fair assessment, many youtubers seem to try and make this a story for some reason, so many props to you for being fair and objective; great vid!
Thanks for making this video. It seems to me that Zarya is exactly where the devs want her, which is fine by me. And she is certainly not a ubiquitous pick, as at the low to mid tiers of Competitive, no one is fighting me for her and others actually welcome a good Zarya on the team because of how synergistic she is.
There is no need to rush to a judgement and whip out the nerf stick, like the one that knocked Zenyatta from the highest highs to again gracing the bottom of the Competitive hero pool. There are other heroes that likely need some sort of attention first, such as nearly ubiquitous pick Lucio or other map-dependent auto-picks like Reinhardt on payload. Other heroes will get added that either offer similar alternatives to their skills or offer completely different skills that are deemed to be worthier in a future meta.
I made a Overwatch Team and we always use dive comp.
We use Zarya, Winston, Tracer, Soldier:76, Lucio, D.va.
Zarya tanks the damage with her shield and damages the Reinhardt shield to initially get into the enemy team. Usually the Winston jumps in and puts down his bubble and starts targeting the Ana, Zenyatta, or Mercy. Tracer can help with the supports. Soldier:76 tries to take the high ground and damage the tanks. D.Va starts for the DPS and tanks. After the Winston kills the support, he helps D.va with the DPS. After the DOS are done with, the whole team goes on the tanks. To get into the team the Lucio should be speed boosting and if the Winston or Tracer take damage, he switches it to healing. After the healers are done with, I recommend to put it to speed. I play the Zarya role. We were bronze and we watched a pro match, switched to dive and got to Platinum in Season 3. And in Season 4 We placed Diamond
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS GOOD AT GENJI, REPLACE TRACER WITH HIM.
Zarya is one of the characters that is hard to master but if you do she immediately becomes the best hero you could possibly want on your team. But I believe in order for a Zarya to preform you also need to good team to back her. Which is why in lower level play you don't see her that much.

Even if she is overpowered (and I don't think she is) I'm happy that she's played alot. How many characters are incentivized to get more damage by helping out your teammates when they're taking damage? Her projected bubble is amazing for team play and that's why she's amazing.
The way I see it, Zarya needs a definite counter. I think Widow would be a great counter and shes already getting buffed, but what about when Zarya is picked on defense? Would it still be worth taking Widow on offense just to counter Zarya? I'm thinking Sombra should be that counter if she has an EMP ability that deactivates shields for a duration. But that might not be for a while yet.
I think a neat buff to widow would be to make her grappling hook a lower cool down and let her hang from it. she would have much more mobility and have a lower chance of being singled out.
Let her hang from is is a WAAAAYY bigger buff than she deserves. She would literally be unreachable for her counters. Which are mostly composed of short ranged fighters.
I see your point but she would also be exposed to other characters making her need to balance between hanging and hiding.
I like the idea, not sure how it will play out... Maybe allow her to hang from the hook, but if she takes damage she falls. This way she still has a lot more positions to take, but they still need to be safe and people like genji, d.va, winston, reaper, and tracer can still get her.
That would be a neat idea but the grappling hook would have to not recharge while it's active so she can't just keep running.

The issue with zarya is that she has it both ways, she is really awkward to kill and often has insane damage as well. No movement abilities but she just doesn't really have any proper counters.
The main issue is that if you run into a really good zarya player, in quick play especially, then they can be almost impossible to kill. She is not fun to play against in these scenarios, almost as frustrating as an aimbotter.
But stylosa once told me Zarya can't be nerfed because she is his main...

People think Zarya is useless because she pretty much REQUIRES co-ordinated team play. In solo-queue, there are very few times where the team actually co-ordinates anything, so that leads people to seeing Zarya as useless: because she doesn't reward one-man-army gameplay.
Anim Bron-E those who can't time their shields or can't track with Zarya's insanely difficult LMB. She's a difficult hero to use, and while she is incredibly rewarding if you CAN use her, like all other heroes she is useless if you can't.
In my experience, the people that think Zarya is bad don't know when to disengage, so they go in, pop shield, and die, losing all energy and value of the hero, just because they never stop pressing W
I mostly agree with the other commenters here. On quick play, the usefulness of Zarya is really determined by the rest of your team. If you're stuck in one of those team comps with 3 snipers, or you have a team full of people trying to go solo running flank with Genji, McCree and other DPS characters, you'll never get enough energy built up to really make her useful, and without other teammates nearby she'll get killed a lot, losing whatever charge she did get. When you get a team that actually works together, groups up, and runs team fights, she is can be great, but solo queue play doesn't always give you a chance for that.
I saw very little zaryas from silver to high gold - platinum onwards she starts becoming more popular. i haven't used her much myself when I was ranking up, teams at that level always go 4 dps/fun, 1 heal, 1 tank. I find Rein better in these situations because he's more capable as a core tank
i think kaplan already stated that they arent really thinking about nerfing zarya
it's a non-issue like you guys said...the game just needs more tank counters instead of tank nerfs
If a game keeps up with nerfs then people will end up getting bored of their lovely characters or gameplay, however buffing other classes might end up make people excited to try new buffed classes, and keep the game enjoyable, that is said based on my personal experience.
If I were to make any change to Zarya, it would be to make a little bit more of that health bar regular life rather than shields. Since he's strongest a short range, the natural thing to want to do is try and poke her down, but that's flatly not doable with so much of her health naturally regenerating.
I completely agree, Zarya's a really unique case where the nature of her kit's balance depends on the meta surrounding her at the time, since her whole kit is centered on being a team player and the better someone is at being that (as well as having strong fundamentals) the better she will be, regardless of the meta that's powerful at the time. Even her ult iisn't formidable just because of what Zarya herself can do, but rather the team-wide value it beings for all sorts of various combos both offensive and defensive. Her kit is designed to be malleable.
Maybe the only thing that could use a bit of adjustment is perhaps the rate at which she attains charge could be lowered a bit, as it's pretty relatively easy to quickly get at least 50-100 % charge and maintain it when you have a good rhythm of barriers going, but other than that I strongly feel it'd be a huge mistake on the dev's part to fixate too much on her in regards to adjusting the current meta. The slightest change could either negate her whole purpose, or legitimately make her actually op (if made to be "easier" to play).

I saw Zarya complaints coming months before it started. Look at Seagull's "High Energy is Crazy" video. I called it. People love to complain about things they can't deal with. I didn't mind the removal of Genji's combo or his ult becoming 6s. But the triple jump really shook his momentum and we were forced to relearn it. Now people want to go with Zarya because "it's not fair she gets powerful because of shields!" even though she's weak as fuck without high energy.
Zarya is my least played character. I feel I should play her more.

***** I'm a Zarya main and I'm 3125 Diamond so while I'm not the best I can give an opinion on this. Zarya has the lowest health of all the tanks. If the enemy team focus fires you, you're dead. If a Reaper baits you into using your shield and then starts shooting, youre dead. If a roadhog hooks you and waits for the subsequent barrier to run out, you're dead. She cannot melt through teams with ease in the right hands and no amount of skill can let you carry a bad team the way Genji can in lower levels.
I totally agree. Some heroes dont get countered because their counters are out of the meta, so they overperform. The right way to balance it, is to buff their counters.

She is OP, end of story. She destroys all damage every couple seconds, her huge healthpool regenerates and her damage is the biggest shredder around. She charges insanely fast no problem.

I do agree that Zarya isn't OP as much as it is that the other characters can't keep up.
If anything, Zarya doesn't have a reliable counter in the high levels of play. Though to be fair, in mid levels of play, Zarya doesn't have a good counter (mostly because of Widow being bad and no other reliable options).

No, Reaper can not 2 shot Zarya. if that's the case than 200 health pools would get 1 shot. it takes about 4 to 6 shots to kill her if you are close and accurate enough.
Lucio has always been in the meta, however no ones talks about him even. (although i do think lucio is the most perfect hero in the game rn.)
My problem is is that her ability has no negative impact for anyone. Take Genji, while reflecting, he can't attack or hurt anybody unless the enemy team shoots. Lucio, he constantly has to pick between the two things, and that will always help some of his team and doom the other part. Then Zarya. ? Go on, tell me the negative effect to her shield. Even a tracer bomb doesn't get inside it, which it should, and if Genji or someone hits her with an ult or an impactful shot such as Soldiers helix rockets, she's gained 25 charge before you can decide if that was just a bait and your gonna go onto the next one. The simple nerf should be that she has the damage of 0 energy while having shields on, as if the energy is being used elsewhere. That would make it fair, so you don't run up as Roadhog and get mugged off by a 100 charge Zarya who can kill you in 2 seconds. I see your point about it just being the meta, but buffing a character isn't gonna change that Zarya doesn't have a good counter
If zarya is not op that means genji wasn't before the patch. People just like to defend their mains.
Thankfully, Zarya is also very fun to watch! she does a lot of damage, her bubbles clutches are awesome little moments and her ult set the stage for breakthroughs.
as awesome as Geji or Mccree can look when they fight on the high level, Zarya can look just as awesome and skillful and at the same time be super viable at off tanking and supporting her team.
If they should "nerf" her I think they should add recoil that increases with the charge, that would increase the skills needed to use her effectively without messing with her stats and abilities
Zarya has a shield she can put on any friendly or on her self which allows her to shoot through the shield while being invincible. And if enemies shoot at her shield she does more damage. :/ Seems pretty op to me.

I really dont think Bastion needs a buff, when he's in turret mode he can out damage anything (except maybe a Rien shield), he can self repair in either mode (and even though he cant do anything else while repairing respawn times on enemies will give him time to fully repair any amount of damage anyway) he doesnt need to worry about Zaryas shields as she wont have to chance to use the charge from it before he kills her. Torbjorn might need one but I dont really play him (nor do I have any interest in doing so) so I cant say for sure.
snakefannum1 you have not seen bastion on high levels of play. Any Genji or tracer can kill the bastion behind the reinhardt shield it happens almost all the time maybe adding an extra 50 armor HP can help or at least add the shield back with 450 health at the cost of reduced accuracy
But thats kinda the point of those heros, to get behind the enemy line and kill immobile/low health heros, those are the counter heros to Bastion.

I just wish they'd adjust Zarya's main fire to deal damage on impact, rather than after a sustained tick. I'll take adjustments to the damage output to compensate, just stop making squishies invincible to a quick sweep.

The same discussion was held about Genji. People said he took skill so he deserve to powerful. My problem with Zarya is that there is never a situation/team comp where she is a bad pick and she has no counters. A reaper will not beat her if has 50% or plus energy and either has her bubble off cooldown or she is at a safe distance to do a lot of damage with her primary. Mei is definitely not a counter to her. Zarya can remover her freeze for 2 seconds and there is nothing mei can do to remover that bubble in that time frame. She can remove discords from zen, remove the grenade from ana etc. The don't shoot her shields fallacy is just as dumb as the i have gold metals one. Skilled Zarya's usually don't get charge from enemies intentionally shooting her shields. Its from abilities like tracer bomb, d.va ult, roadhog ult, fire strike, Junkrat/Pharah spam, etc. There always gonna be situations, like shielding a diving Winston or ulting reaper where if you don't shoot her shield your gonna die. There needs to be heros that are hard counters go Zarya that will make a team think twice about running her. If not, then she needs a nerf pronto.

from what i've noticed as he top level of play;
zarya, ana, reinhardt and lucio are nearly insta-picks. with the two other slots varying depending what strat is being run.
thats not a problem right now as we know a new hero is coming very soon.
the new hero could be a viable replacement for any of these. maybe having synergie with or gets countered by someone who barely gets used at the moment.

it's because people think the barrier blocks an unlimited amount of damage because when playing as and against a zarya it does not have any sort of hp bar

My fiance can attest to this.. in competitive, Zarya is seen in every match and most of the time is her team it doing well, then she does amazing. And it tends to piss him off lol. But if the team is bad, she's easier to target and pick off.

As a Zarya main, she is fine. I've been rekt when teammates don't play with me. Good reapers chew through the shield and kill. You can usually run away from roadhog shotgun but it can kill if you dont have shields as well. She can be countered by good enemy team focus, more than 2 of their team has to shoot Zarya down!
so that helps to explain why mei is back in the meta. her main fire/technique is short range so back when long range characters were at their best she was at her worst.

I think graviton surge has a slightly too big radius of effect. If they gave it a small nerf, I would be satisfied with zarya as she currently is.
I think that something needs to change because she is just locking out heroes from the meta. Junkrat and dva are almost never seen just because zarya literally melts them.
Junkrat is out of the meta mostly because of its unreliable damage (trash damage) and Dva lacks a bit of damage to flank alone while she can't reliably tank for an extended period of time. Sure, Zarya affects too, but isn't the main reason

Well the main reason for junkrat is that he just feeds zaryas charge way too much. Junkrat is about skill shots which is the same as mccree. Although mccree is obviously more consistent, junkrat can still pay off since he does so much damage. Also for some reason Zarya does way more damage to dvas shield than she should which was proven in a reddit post somewhere. I dont really disagree with you though. At lower ranks like plat/diamond you can notice that dva isnt viable if there is a zarya so it isnt just a 'pro meta' thing.

What I hate about Zarya is that she single-handedly pushed Junkrat out of the comp scene.
Let some heroes capable of hitting her even if she has her bubble, Winston, tracer pulse bomb if it sticks before the bubble is up, maybe mei and sombra(if she will be released) expand the cool up to 15 seconds on both and make it so that the bubble protects 200 and not more, if a Reinhardt pinns her, she still would get 100 damage even with the bubble

Yeah, Tracer is pretty much the only hero that kills me consistently as Zarya anymore. Sometimes if I can land the energy bombs correctly I can kill one, but if I don't have teammates around, it gets pretty ugly. I'll easily block the pulse bombs, but trying to track one that keeps constantly blinking behind you is a pain and often unsuccessful.
You're the reason she needs a nerf. You shouldn't be able to just main her, pick her 100% and do well. She has no counter or reliable counter play. She's breaking the game.
Why shouldn't I be able to main her? I took the time to learn her playstyle inside and out and got to masters for it. You can also pick Reaper Mccree, Reinhardt, Lucio, and Ana on every map and do well.
In fact at high lvl of play people have figured out how broken Ana really is, every game a Reinhart just sits in a choke with his shield down and gets healed by Ana more than the enemy team can deal damage, and then 15 seconds into the round there is already a nanoboosted Reinhardt.

honestly, I feel that any imagined "problem" with zarya only exists because reaper's the only hero in the game designed to delete tanks now that zenyatta isn't quite as nuts as he was before, so he isn't being used all the time. If another hero comes into the game who is good against tanks, or people with self-healing, or protection abilities, we'd see less tanks on the high end too. That said, zarya is fine- we just need more tanks to provide protective roles for their teams like zarya and reinhardt to compete with them for spots. They're in every game because no one can do anything close to what they do. *Yet.*
