  • Hood wood slasher. Processing some poplar for the mill. Hood 1500 Detroit 471 engine. Mid eighties vintage machine. Bought and paid for is better than payments.
Just picked the machine up. Getting the bugs worked out & speeding up as we go.
Anyone with lots of experience is welcome to give constructive advice to help improve productivity.

I used to run a 24000 truck mount and a self propelled one but a lil newer than yours, both were late 90's models
I always kept the slasher bunk full, saw trees grab bolts out pull bunch ahead saw again, pile remaining pulp, pull load ahead and saw while swinging for some more trees, then kind of repeat the process.
It doesnt always work that way but it kept the bolts on the top and was easy to sort.
There is really no right or wrong way to do it, just dont hit the saw with your bucket Haha.
I did custom slashing so I got paid by cordage .
I no longer do the job but I think about those days all the time, I especially liked doing it in the winter months. There is something about Sawed Aspen in the winter!
That smell takes me back to the days of my cord bustin chaos!
And yes you do have the right idea with no payments! That machine right there is a mighty fine slasher!
Where is your operation based out of?

Thanks for watching and your comment!
Northern Alberta. Had some money and engine issues last spring and have not run it or the other machines since. The slasher got started with too much ether one day and did some engine damage. Hopefully will get it all sorted out by year end. But the slasher seems to be one of those machines that I wish I'd owned from day one. I haul logs a bit and have a couple small firewood processors. The slasher would be a great asset messing with firewood.
I've got lots of videos of firewood and log truck. Got one about changing slasher teeth too- ( saw & grapple should never meet each other). But the smell of fresh cut wood is a wonderful addiction. Just not tons of money to support it. Subscribe if you haven't. Lots of odd and interesting to see and hopefully not boring.

You bet. Detroit Diesel engines are a wonderful way to turn diesel fuel into noise. I have 6 or 7 of those engines.
The logging there is clearing land for farming. That area will be cleaned up and put into hay land and pasture. The wood was processed to go to a local OSB ( Chip board plywood) plant.
