I never carry more than $50 in ones but always make sure have at least $1,000 in $20’s $50’s & $100’s and I always have a check folded also in wallet. But I got to a lot of estate sales and spend sometimes thousands at a time if I anticipate spending based on photos from estate sale I may even carry as much as $5,000 or more in hundreds with me you do not want to miss a rare painting just because you ran out of money. Lastly no bulk shipping ever too slow and too much room for error. All shipping is video taped anyway because of a lot of what we ship.
I can just see Kevin explaining to an insurance agent how thousands of dollars worth of Tupperware lids and vintage ashtrays were blown away in a tornado.
To avoid shipping mistakes like that I always pack all my items up, print out all my labels and apply to mailers.. and then just before sealing the corresponding items inside the mailers I double check my sold items page and make sure the items and names/addresses match up. I pack a lot of things in opaque tissue, so I often apply little stickers (free USPS provided stickers) with codes on them that describe the item inside. If you're using clear or transparent packaging it's probably a bit easier/faster.

I have personal property insurance to cover cost of goods In case anything happens. Commercial insurance only cover items that are new with tags and or directly from manufacture/supplier for retail. Majority of my items are from my clients for contact consignment. Because the items are from 1800s to present day to resell I can only get insurance through purchasing personal property insurance. You need a separate business policy for your inventory and there could be an issue getting insurance for your business inventory in your home and it COULD JEOPARDIZE YOUR HOME INSURANCE
5 or so years back I mixed up 3 labels. I got a message from the 1st, then went to my sales and actually called 1 and 2, whom I thought to have sent 1's item to to only find out I had sent 3s item to. Both 1 and 2 were rather surprised that i called them to fix the issue. To make it hurt me more, 3 was in Malaysia. I was able to get 3s sent back by 1. 2 shipped 1s to them directly after I emailed them the label. 3 never replied so had to buy 2s, with their permission and ask the seller to ship directly to them. I messaged 3 and just told them to keep 2s and that when I got their item back that I would then ship it to them. I did get it all worked out, but 3 received 2s 80 dollar item so that's what I had to fork out to fix the issue. But I just wrote it all off as a learning experience and my taxes. And I love the Praying Mantis at the end of the video. I always have to hold them when I find them.😬
This is why I no longer resell, I wish I could make money on just sourcing without listing, photographing, selling or shipping… 🤣 (I’m still addicted to WATCHING y’all do the work!)
I nearly sent the wrong items to buyers the other week. Started second guessing myself on the way to the post box and double checked the packages before posting. Yep, mixed them up. I had to write out new labels by hand at the post office. I was so relieved I checked.
I have mixed up items in the past that's why I give every item a unique number SKU when I list them and also put location in the SKU as well, so it doesn't happen again great video and I am in the UK, I have got extra insurance for my stock it's a good warning to people as stock is usually classed as business stock and wouldn't be covered under the house insurance

Made the mistake thankfully just once. Since then I've updated the way I pull and ship to reduce the likelihood of it happening again. I print the "Pick List" and my inventory system each item gets a Unique SKU# that is never used again. Pull, Package and put the name of the buyer on package. Match Label to Package and voila.

I've sent offers, lowered prices and updated to super seller+ and nothing. I only have 400 items so maybe I expect too much. It's hard to get excited about listing when nothing sells. Anyway, I'm giving it till the end of the year. Love your show.
Not at all at your level - but we bring with us to yard/garage sales $155 cash - usually $20 in ones and then $5/$10 equally divided. We usually have a "stash" of $20s for emergency use LOL! That will tend to work for us for the week of sales. If we know we will be going to an estate sale, we typically increase the amount on hand by $100. In July - the eBay activity was slow but I attribute that to us out sourcing a great deal more and working on our garden and canning and preserving more than the normal listing activities 9 months out of the year receive. Just tallied the numbers as I transfer the profits toward our son's university tuition bill. The total was just over 1/2 less than the month prior and about on par with 2021 July. It doesn't concern me - it's the season - and we are gearing up for September through the end of the year and beyond activities! On the early question on messing up labels. I have done so TWICE! Thank God above, the people (buyers) were very much active in helping to correct the situation. And, patient with me.
I had made the same shipping mistake a month ago. I sent a large 20+ lb box, but it was the wrong item (Sent a vintage large porcelain lighthouse instead of Pyrex) . I contacted UPS and had the package interrupted and they sent it back to me. Ironically, the VTG lighthouse came back damaged. Now UPS is giving me a hard time on the reimbursement. I got a double whammy. UGH.
I used a recycled box that had a ups sticker on the box . I sent it out it got all the way there then they scanned the other sticker and they sent it back to the people that gave me the box .
Yes I have done it once, and let me tell you it cost me and when you are first getting started it get costly. But when it happened both of the customer's were awesome. Thank you for sharing makes me feel good I am not the only one.
re: shipping, in UK post office is different from US, as a part time ebay seller I used PO to send, clerk I was dealing with was putting labels on items and was distracted by his colleague unknown to me he put the wrong label on my item, I didn't know (did not check then) until I got request for item 2 weeks later. I checked tracking on receipt and it was delivered to an address I did not know, PO clerk 2 weeks later was not accepting he made a mistake (I really should have checked myself) so refunded with massive apology.( I use ebay shipping since then)
When I started, we talked to the insurance company for our home and got the inventory covered as well (up to a certain amount). There was no extra cost. When I called my car insurance company though, I was told that reselling, even on a single sale, was considered commercial activity and required commercial car insurance (which they didn't provide). They were very clear that I would not be covered if I got into an accident while performing any business activity (which mirrors what I had read in various places online). That part wasn't fun, because commercial car insurance is definitely more expensive and covers less. It's something that people need to be aware of though.
I made that mistake once 7 years ago, never can i do that again. What a pain in the ass. You're exactly right, I refuse to do bulk shipping for that exact purpose.. though it's been tempting.
I've always carried insurance for my inventory, although I've never had a claim in the last 20+ years of trading. I find one of the advantages of using storage units is that the insurance cover comes in substantially cheaper than we used to pay when we stored everything in our offices. Of course, I tempted fate by chatting with the facility manager and saying that it hardly seemed worthwhile insuring as the security is so tight, what could possibly go wrong... The next week I found my entry to the site blocked by fire crews busily rolling up hoses and removing breathing apparatus! Happily, the fire was contained within one stairwell (ironically enough, one of the fire escapes) and there was no damage to any of the units but it was certainly a reminder that even the best run and most secure site can have problems.
Kevin, great that you brought up inventory insurance. I*'ve tried to engage a few other RUclipsrs regarding this but no one wants to talk about it, at least in public. Most homeowner policies are going to have limits on how much inventory they are willing to cover ... and a vocal assurance from a salesman (otherwise called an agent) is not enough. Also, you might have inventory you spent ay $2000 total in acquiring but it might be projected to sell for $40 or $50k. I think the only way you could recover from a loss like that is to buy insurance up to a stated value. Also, those who resell full-time need to look into business continuation insurance ... something that pays an income when an injury or illness keeps the reseller from working. Nobody really "likes" insurance, but it could keep0 you from losing your home if a disaster comes along. Be well and keep on a'sellin'. (And no, I do not sell insurance, LoL)
I refuse to do bulk shipping, lol. Makes it so hard to print the packing slips and I would definitely mess up my orders! PS, don't be so hard on yourself ;-) You're insanely organized... it's just that others may not properly understand your sense of organization :) It's just a training opportunity. Patience and persistence!
We got hit by a Tornado just a few weeks ago in Goshen Ohio and I am still assessing what was damaged and things that cannot be sold. I will then talk with the insurance about it, however I was told it should/would be covered as my inventory was in my home. We also had some bad roof damage and other damage as well. I will not hold my breathe as they are fighting us to even fix/replace our roof.
The first week that I started printing my own shipping labels, I screwed up and printed one twice... It was a DVD set, and a Prius part. The Prius part arrived to the customer order of the DVD. I refunded her for the DVD, as tracking obviously showed the wrong item delivered. The next day the DVD set showed up at her house as well... Thankfully she was gracious enough to print a shipping label that I sent her to send the Prius part direct. Even ended up paying for the DVD set again after I told her she could just keep them for her trouble.
If you have an LLC, legally, the insurance has to be a business insurance even if part of your inventory is at your home. If you are a sole proprietor then it can be under your home owners insurance depending on your insurance. Not a CPA. Get professional advice. If you sell on Amazon, you are required to have a 1million dollar liability *Business* coverage with Amazon listed on the insurance. It's in the fine print when you set up a seller acct with Amazon. FYI.
Seeing that the items fall under your business it would under business ins. You need to get and the process would be long to itemized and pricing to get the proper ins coverage. Video is a good way to do your products but the paperwork part will be brutal to itemize pricing.
I just did it over the weekend, I had 2 sale for 3 cd lots, and they were from the same artist but different covers. I emailed both explaining my error, and did not hear back from either party yet. Been selling for 1 1/2 years.
Years ago I had an antique shop (before ebay) and had extra insurance. Finally 1 day I decided I was Insurance Poor... There is a decision each much make.
Thanks for sharing the video great sale's today and always learning from your information it was awesome to see the praying mantis I've not saw one in awhile my dad is passed about 5 years ago I used to see them in the tobacco field's when we were helping dad with the farm I hope you and your family have a blessed weekend
I’ve never done that but caught myself last minute the other day almost shipping the wrong necklace out because I had several that were similar last minute I had some thing tell me I need to double check and I fixed it, but I came very close to shipping out the wrong necklace. And the customer actually wrote me and told me how she much she loved it, I think that the comment could’ve been hey , you sent me the wrong necklace!! I can happen very easily so I don’t have enough sales that I have to bulk ship. When I have five or six I pack them carefully one at a time! 😁
I mixed up 2 orders a while back. I’m sure it will happen again. Cost me a little extra shipping to get it straightened out but thankfully both buyers were understanding.
My rookie mistake was something even worse imo. I had few glassware pre wrapped in bubble wrap & paper. One day I got an order and I automatically went to where I store the sold piece. All were pre wrapped & I picked & I picked up what I thought was the piece I needed for the sale, but in fact it was another piece & because they both had the same shape i automatically assumed it was the one. By me failing to double check I sent the wrong piece & ended up losing on both pieces after letting the buyer keep the first piece (shipping it back is costly for me in Canada), resending the correct one & awarding the buyer a discount on his order for his kind understanding & patience. I call this mistake pure laziness 😅
I have made the mix up shipping once and have sent the wrong item twice. Worked out each time. Buyers were very understanding. Fortunately none were big ticket items. Excited about going to 127 sale this year. Been about 10 years since I have gone. Lived in Ohio back than. So started there and worked our way south. Now that I am in Florida we are starting at the southern end in Gadsen then heading north. Sorry wont get to hook up with the group this year. Maybe next time. Oh yeah I usually take 50 to 100 depending on time of year. Now 50 because sales are slow here in Florida but when things pick up down here in the fall and winter I usually take 100.
Fun sales. For me I have to print my labels one at a time and write the item on the back right away or I would have things all kinds of confused. Of course I just got a rollo printer about 4 months ago so I am not the best one to ask LOL.
I hope you had better luck at the Rt 21 sale than I did. the starting point in VA is my hometown, and this year it seemed like most people were asking ebay prices. We picked up some things for our personal collections, but prices were too high for resale
I have been selling for almost 2 years now and about 3-4 months ago I screwed up multiple labels. I had about 5-6 orders going out and I mixed up all of them. I don't think I even got one of them to the correct person. It was a little costly refunding everyone because some of them just wouldn't send the item back or reply to emails, so I just refunded everyone and luckily never received the first feedback neither good nor bad. Thanks to that I definitely pay much more attention now doing my bulk shipping. In my defense I had just started doing bulk shipping so that is what I am blaming it on. Sending much love to you and your family from your neighbors up here in West Virgina (the state lol)

Didn't realize the option I picked on Ebay shipping was priority envelope and I also used a priority one rate large box instead of regular priority usps box. Oy what a calamity of errors. I took it to the post office this morning so they could ship correctly and I paid the correct way this time. Now I need to contact ebay to get a refund on my original paid shipping label. All is well, shipped saftely now need my refund which I've never asked for before from ebay shipping and have to figure out. SoCal picker not a newbie but made newbie error....ol
Years ago, pulling a business policy on inventory, building, etc for a small business was very reasonable. Not anymore. Your homeowners WILL NOT COVER business items, or building affiliated with it, nor will a Flood Policy. You HAVE TO HAVE a separate business policy for both. I am in Virginia, and have first hand knowledge about all of this. You are almost better off rolling the dice, unless you are "TAKING HOME" an annual income from re-selling of at least 150,000.....However, it is all relative to your situation. Expect to pay close to a grand a month, depending on your situation.
I did the same thing this week! Last time I did it was TEN years ago. Luckily, both sellers were super awesome and sent the packages to each other Texas to Florida and back! Well it seems eBay is quite strong in the US, over here in the UK there has been a strong decline not only in sales but also the amount of lookers / traffic on my items, this started around May time and has got worse. My prices are the same if not a little lower and my inventory is still as good as it was but there is a steady sales decline.
In May ebay implemented a new way of calculating viewers and watchers. They used to count bots as views, now they don't. So now when you see a view it really is an actual view. Lots of people have reported the same concerns. Anyway, I hope this information is helpful. Take care!
I have been selling for 23 years and recently had my 2nd ever mixup. So frustrating. My sales are now down to 1 a week on ebay. Hoping it picks up soon!
Ugh we did it last week! We sold 2 guitar hero guitars on the same day and both going to Ohio. We mixed them up. Had them send back and resent. How did you correct it?
Does anybody else have a game where they count how many times you touch/tap the items while you're showing them? I swear there are some times you show an item and touch it or tap on it 10 or 20 times. You're not so boring that you have to keep our attention with your hands waving around the whole time! You are telling us good stuff.

I have an item I’m selling for $125 and accepting offers. On the last 7 days it’s had 88 views and 13 people watching it but no one has sent an offer. Should I wait it out or throw up an offer to them? I’m only into these jeans for $5 thanks ahead of time
I never bring any One Dollar Bills to a yard sale, because I never spend less than $5 at any sale. If I spend anything less then a multiple of $5, I either find something else, or I round up. You claim you give to charity, but won't give an extra dollar or two to someone selling their belongings to earn some extra money?
I really don't understand why people still try and sell on ebay. I've been reselling for 10+ years and have had nothing but headaches with the site. It may depend on what you are selling, but 90% of my sales come from Mercari. Plus they don't take as much of a percentage.
Mercari doesn't have near the volume of sale that ebay has. The fees are very similar but the sales are fewer for sure. I'm glad you have success there and I know many do but it is difficult to get the volume of sale I get on any other platform than ebay.

And, patient with me.
love the goonies T shirt. my absolute favourite film of the 80's. thanks for the content
UGH.
It's been about a hundred years since I've seen a Praying Mantis. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I used a recycled box that had a ups sticker on the box . I sent it out it got all the way there then they scanned the other sticker and they sent it back to the people that gave me the box .
I use a lot of recycled boxes. I always stick the new label over the old one. it's a lot easier than trying to remove the old one.
I checked tracking on receipt and it was delivered to an address I did not know, PO clerk 2 weeks later was not accepting he made a mistake (I really should have checked myself) so refunded with massive apology.( I use ebay shipping since then)
I have done the mix-up thing twice this month! Super costly. Makes you slow down and be extra careful on shipping for sure. Just shows we are human.
From the moment you left those breakable salt and pepper shakers on the counter with the cat,,,,, I was nervous.
Thank you! Thank you for sharing this. Never heard of this.
I made that mistake once 7 years ago, never can i do that again. What a pain in the ass. You're exactly right, I refuse to do bulk shipping for that exact purpose.. though it's been tempting.
Thanks for the Fisto! I actually would have been cool with either figure and I appreciate you taking care of it so quick
I’ve started listing regularly and updated all my listings. Sales doing so much better now
Kevin, great that you brought up inventory insurance.
I've done it couple times,,,,
Great advice on being careful with shipping and labels. Some great sales I love watching your videos.
(*knock on wood*)
After a year of reselling I haven't made a shipping error yet, but I don't have anywhere near the volume you do.
Thanks for sharing the video great sale's today and always learning from your information it was awesome to see the praying mantis I've not saw one in awhile my dad is passed about 5 years ago I used to see them in the tobacco field's when we were helping dad with the farm I hope you and your family have a blessed weekend
I started using tags with the item # just for that reason.
Yup! Made a Reel about it.
I have done it once since starting in March.
My sales are decent. I sold an item I've had for 6 months and that's always fun
I did the same thing 3 times
Goonies never say die. Thanks,, Kevin!
I believe Chris on daily regiment said insurance won't cover inventory. Icould be wrong its on one of his bideos
ive never had that happen im too paranoid
I only print one label at a time
Love my bag. Ready to try it out at some sales.
We picked up some things for our personal collections, but prices were too high for resale
yeah there was some of that for sure but we managed to fill the truck up anyways.
It's a good thing I don't make mistakes... Okay, what I just said was a mistake too! 😀We had some good sales this weekend. $500 on One Sale!
Merry Christmas 🎄👽🎄
It slowed down for me but I've been working 4 doubles a week lately @ my day job.
Happy Monday Kevin & CWP Family 👋🏼🥰🥳 Congratulations On Sales 👏🏼👏🏼🥳🥳 Jasmine & Derek @THE ATL FLIPPERS Are Definitely Awesome 💙💜 Great Video As Always 🥰
I made my first triple shipping error EVER!. I sold art for over $200. Shipped it in a priority USPS box. Well... measured correctly and weighed it correctly.
Wow! I never make any mistakes
Lolololol
That's what I hear about the famous perfectionist Dave the FL Picker.

I did the same thing this week! Last time I did it was TEN years ago. Luckily, both sellers were super awesome and sent the packages to each other Texas to Florida and back! Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the IKEA bag and EnemaMan! My sales increased TENFOLD the Day he arrived!! He got things moving! Love from NJ - extra love for ❤️ REAGAN ❤️for always shipping out my goodies so well!
I return an order on Mercari and shipped her the return item and a pair of $200 shoes. She charged me $40 to return the item. What a mess!
I recently sold a King Cobra 6 iron golf club. I go to my golf club rack and pull the only King Cobra 6 iron in the 6 iron slot. Low and behold there was a second King Cobra 6 iron that had mistakenly been stored with the 9 irons. Guess which one I shipped to the customer. BTW they were not identical clubs, one was left handed
Hey Kevin, luckily never made a mistake, but I know it can happen when things get just so hectic. Happy it worked out in the end..
🐈⬛ Pepper just wants to help you pack up your items, but TREATS FIRST!😽😻. Again, incredible sales, informative content, and as always love your videos! You always get me motivated to list more and work harder with my reselling. I sure wish I had help listing! Thanks Kevin for all that you do!! #1 fan from Baltimore!!🤗🥰
God’s Blessings to All. My mistake…., well I don’t dwell in the past. Anyway thanks for the videos!
Take care!
@@takingupmycross9869 hey, thank you for that. Cheers
Thank you for all your teaching
Lol I’ve that. Put the wrong label on the packages
I have been selling for 23 years and recently had my 2nd ever mixup. So frustrating. My sales are now down to 1 a week on ebay. Hoping it picks up soon!
wow I hope so as well. Sorry to hear that.
That's just him man
I actually like it. I noticed it when I first started watching, but quickly got over it. It actually makes it part of watching Kevin!
I just sold a old Georgetown hat for 405 plus shipping I paid a buck
So I see you write the sales in a notebook, do you use any other methods like QuickBooks to track the flow in and out?
I just stop grab a stack of 20's every morning. Change is rarely an issue. Hope to see you on the 127
Pain in the butt I’m sure but if you have honest patient customers it makes it ok.
Cómo se llama sus página en Ebay
Summer slowdown has definitely hit my store hard.
Mine too, worst weekend ever, 1 sale. No where to go but up.
@@AnAmericanGirl4Sure Bout the same here. Best of luck to you!
@@SouthernGospelLady Thanks, back at you. 😉
Great prep advice shared! Kevin Big Stacks Commonwealth 💪 some of my bank’s ATMs give 5’s so I typically do that but the ones is where it’s at to keep it moving! Has a bank ever given you a hard time about getting that many ones?
not yet.
Ya came very close to making a mistake like that before but caught myself before it happened. I did ship a wrong item before though it was because I wasn't paying attention. Lesson learned PAY ATTENTION lol. Great video thanks Kevin!
How could the great Yaakov Benz ever make a mistake.
I have an item I’m selling for $125 and accepting offers. On the last 7 days it’s had 88 views and 13 people watching it but no one has sent an offer. Should I wait it out or throw up an offer to them? I’m only into these jeans for $5 thanks ahead of time
id wait
@@commonwealthflipperLove the channel!
I am selling mosrly vintage tees at the moment and experience less bidders haggling.
My Mercari sales for clothing is almost quadruple that of eBay. Plus free listings
Plus Mercari takes 10% where eBay takes 12.9% ?
