I think the first major sign that Basil's planning to commit suicide in the real world is him giving the photo album to Sunny *before* learning that he's moving away. Suddenly giving away cherished posessions to loved ones for no apparent reason is a major warning sign of suicide.
Also important to note that basil was 12 years old and knew how to tie a noose and even came up with the idea to stage maris suicide. That’s not something mentally healthy kids think about or know how to do!
Yep. Me and my sister played it together and when that happened she actually panicked. She was like "we can't leave him alone, please don't make us leave him alone!"
thanks for saying this ! i think a lot of people miss the implications because it happens before the game shows that basil didn't know about sunny moving, but he even goes on to say that he was "glad to meet sunny again, *even if it was only for a little while.*", very loaded wording. i honestly think basil deducted sunny would most likely not have broken out of his repression before basil would die to suicide and gave it to him as a last ditch effort as a lasting reminder since he wouldn't be in sunny's life anymore, considering sunny ruining the photos the first time was what notified basil of how far gone he was in the first place.
In my opinion, the reason Headspace feels so.. lengthed out and padded is because its not meant to be a quick area. Omori is trying to force you to focus on this happy-go-lucky place and is like, trying to extend it more so you can't figure out the truth.
That’s true, but you shouldn’t sacrifice playability for lore purposes, I really want to do the hikimimori route, but I refuse to go through headspace again. It’s so long and unrepeatable once you know what happens.
2:03:23 If you re-enter the piano room after Hero tells you to go back to sleep, you'll find him sitting at the piano and sobbing. It's one of my favorite scenes in the game because it's entirely skippable, but if you're like me, his insistence that you leave makes you more curious to go back into the room, and when you do, what you find is something very human. Hero, for the first time we've seen, lets down his guard, and shows that despite being the sturdy person holding the group together, he's also still deeply affected by Mari's death, and may have actually wanted to come to your house to mourn privately.
Oh absolutely - I thought it was one of the most powerful moments in the game. We don't get a whole lot of information on Hero's life after the incident, but between his reaction to going to the graveyard on the second day (where he simply states he isn't ready, later confirming he's never gone to visit) and Kel's description of Hero's depression after Mari's death, you get the idea that Hero hasn't really allowed himself to mourn the way he needs to. So when we take him so close to where she died and he hears the piano music she was known for and sits at the piano she used to play, it's finally too much and he just sobs. It's a very real moment that made Mari's death seem that much more heartbreaking.
We’re actually told that after Mari’s death he got affected the most! Go to the graveyard behind the church and find Mari’s grave, it’s quite noticeable.
I remember not doing that in my first playthrough but in my third I went back in and saw him at the piano so I walked closer expecting him to be all like "hey you should get some rest" or something hero-like but then he just sobs "oh mari" and I was like holy crap man that's depressing. I almost cried.
something interesting to note is that the mood chart shown at the beginning is foreshadowing/represents how each main character reacted to mari's death. kel is happy, he focused on sports and made new friends. aubrey is angry, which is self explanatory. hero is sad, he went into a horrible depression. omori/sunny is neutral, he repressed his emotions.
I eqw q comment once about how the real world characters represent all the states Sunny: neutral Kel: happy Aubrey: angry Hero: sad Basil: afraid Mari: toast
Hero and Sunny share an immense amount of traits. Both of them have the fatal flaw of internalizing their feelings for the sake of others. Hero is a nice guy - he seldom ever gets angry, always tries to mediate between Kel and Aubrey, and is fine with letting people push him around if it means they'll be happy. It's the same with Sunny. Why did he continue playing violin even though he started hating it? Why did he end up helping out with the treehouse when his memories clearly state he wanted to laze about? Why did he jump from the statue into the lake even though he was afraid of heights? Very simple answer - *he didn't want to disappoint his friends.* The game makes it abundantly clear during Memory Lane sequences that *this* is the unnamed fear that spirit Mari talks about. It's not his fear of the truth - it's his fear that telling the truth will make his friends hate him. Why is it Sunny was always "such a good listener" when it came to Basil and Aubrey? I think it's partially because he is naturally empathetic and lets people vent to him, and partially because he just does not have the heart to turn them away. He's afraid if he tries to tell them he doesn't want to listen, he'll hurt them and they'll be upset with him. It's the same with the flower crown memory. Why does Sunny get up and leave? I think it's almost entirely *because Kel did first.* Why was it that Sunny snuck out to Hobbeez late at night? *Because Kel was doing it with him.* THIS is why the phrase "Waiting for something to happen?" is so crucial to the narrative. That is exactly what Sunny does. He sits, listens, watches, and waits. He is never proactive on his own - he's terrified of messing things up. Hell, when the poor kid is drowning all he can think to himself is that he is a burden to his friends, and that he is helpless. That fear of making things worse is made 1000x worse when the one time he finally is proactive, is what causes the death of the person he loved more than anything else. Just wait...and wait....and wait....and wait....and wait....and wait.....Surely, something is bound to change if you keep waiting, right? It's only when Sunny finds out he's moving away does Head Space begin to collapse rapidly. He doesn't have an infinite amount of time to wait anymore. Either he breaks free of his self imposed torment, or he remains stuck with it for the rest of his life.
Great comment! I love deep character analyses and I think you are completely on point. I am also glad that you pointed out the Hero and Omori paralells as I really identify with both characters. On the surface I seem the most like Hero, but I can identify with a lot of what Sunny is feeling. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot they would bond over if the ages of Kel and Hero had been switched. I wrote this in another comment and don't feel like spamming by posting it here as well, but I have a really deep suspicion that Sunny is autistic. Not only based on his behavior and headspace in the game, but also because of what snippets we get of how he acted before the "concert".
You missed something *very* important at 1:55:00. The ringing phone room. If you DON'T grab the key, and go over to the Phone where the hands spawn once you grab the key, you're able to pick up the phone. Doing so, yields _one of _*_the_*_ most important lines in the entire game_ that almost everybody misses: MOM: "SUNNY ... we're moving away." Why is this so important? Think about it. This entire room in black space is dedicated to this one line. It must be extremely important, right? And the STRANGER in this room says: "For so long, you kept the truth shut out, but something made it slip and the hole that it made won't stop growing until you've found the root of it all." What made it slip? Well, the answer is found in the room: MOM: "SUNNY ... we're moving away." Think about it! This is a cycle that has repeated over and over and over and over and over again... but yet the cycle that we play through in the game is different than all the ones before it. You could say "that's because Kel knocks on the door" ... but yet... if you go the Hikikomori Route, that's not true. Why is this cycle different? "SUNNY ... we're moving away." That one line, spoken by Sunny's Mother, shattered Sunny's stable loop of dreaming, finding the truth, and resetting Headspace and then doing it all over again. The tally marks in the background? Are probably how many times Headspace had been reset (or they are how many days until the move, maybe). The beds? Sunny loves beds. He loves to sleep. A lot. He sleeps away the days, one by one. Tick. Tick. Tick. He's depressed and he just wants to hide in his dream world while the days go by, one at a time. Tick. Tick. Tick. In fact, once you answer the phone, that's the only sound in this room. Tick. Tick. Tick. A clock ticks away endlessly in the background. But yet, Sunny's also scared of moving away, his friends will be gone forever. Right now, he's holding onto the hope that maybe someday, he can have his childhood back before everything went to crap. Until.. "SUNNY ... we're moving away." There's no turning back now. Their house has been sold, they're going to move, and his friends will be gone. Forever. (or so Sunny thinks at the time).
I agree with everything you explained here. So glad that someone talking about this bc I'm not good with words lol. That room is probably my favorite black space room. Its subtle yet obvious metaphorical environment and that one line resonated so much with me. I mean, this game in general have a way of representing things metaphorically very close to my personal taste, but this room in particular really SPEAKING to me. I can totally understand the feeling of keep pushing important things away in favor of escapism until the very last chance of fixing it, or the inevitable truth. In this case, I believed Sunny must feeling torn. I believed not only that he want everything to go back the way it was but deep down, Sunny really want to tell everyone the truth but can never bring himself to do so no matter how much he missed them. He isolated himself and keep pushing away the reality. But now he's about to lose everyone for real. And if he want any chance of seeing them again as well as telling them the truth? He know damn well that he's running out of time.
I know this is late but a couple of details Mari did actually save Sunny from drowning when he was young which further adds on to the immense guilt felt by Sunny. Hero learned piano after Mari died more than likely to keep a part of her with him. When he tells Sunny to get some sleep if you walk back in he’s crying quietly saying to himself “oh Mari…” When Sunny pushes Mari down the stairs she dies because she snaps her neck, whether this is just happening at some point when she falls down the stairs or when she lands on the broken violin is up to you. There are descriptions for the truth photos in the code and on the wiki. One of these photo descriptions describes how Mari is actually lighter than she looks explaining how Sunny and Basil managed to do the thing. Sunny brings Mari to their room hoping she would wake up but she never does. Basil comes up with the idea to frame it as a suicide to protect sunny. During this entire time Sunny is disassociating and is just on autopilot. When outside Basil makes the noose and does the “work” while sunny stares lifelessly into the leaves not wanting to face reality. He only comes to the realization its not a dream when he sees Mari’s hanging body swaying in the wind. When confronting Basil the reason he attacks and ends up stabbing your eye is because he isn’t trying to hurt Sunny, he’s basically delirious and trying to kill “something” as he sees it behind sunny. Sunny is fighting Basil because if you choose to go back to sleep Basil takes his own life so Sunny is trying to stop Basil from hurting himself. Its tragic these two best friends are fighting to save the other. Something is the manifestation of Mari’s eyes poking through her hair likely due to Rigor Mortis as when people die their eyes tend to go wide open due to muscles and both Sunny and Basil made the mistake of turning around when they shouldn’t have Sunny says more than just “I have to tell you something” his only other line in the game hilariously is “PIZZA DELIVERY” If Basil kills himself when you go to the body Hero urges you to not look and just go home wanting to protect Sunny from seeing his dead best friend. Thats just a few details I’ve found/remember what a fantastic game and seeing Mari hold Sunny while crying during duet makes me cry every time I see it.
Im pretty sure the lines talking about how light mari is are referencing the fact that sumny doesn't even understand basil is there at first. The first time sunny notices basil is when they are already outside. Before that he just notes that maris body is light and that he can hear someone speaking and someones hands on him. He is dissasociating so hard that he doesn't even realize someone else is present.
Also, Aubrey's father has passed away, I think it was revealed when sunny and Kel fought with Aubrey in the church and people around them started whispering about how Aubrey was a good kid but had gone astray after her father died
btw, the most common form of SOMETHING is obviously Sunny's mind's distorted view of that final 'photo' in the truth segment. Mari hanging, her hair drooping down with a single eye staring right at Sunny. Right after that 'photo' they even show the comparison with it abruptly fading into SOMETHING. It also explains why, out of everyone, SOMETHING kept telling Sunny it loves him in that room in Black Space. A huge aspect of Sunny's guilt of killing Mari is the fact that she really did love him, which is why SOMETHING taunts him with that. Despite their arguments, Mari in Sunny's mind is shown to be a perfect loving person. She hugs him, heals the party, acts as a SAVE feature, etc. Sunny wants to relive his days with his loving sister and his dear friends (whom he believes he ruined - confirmed by their confessions in the real world) so he made headspace. But likely in one of his many resets of headspace, Mari either got hurt, or turned into SOMETHING, reminding Sunny of the truth, so OMORI banished her to merely be an unproblematic save feature. OMORI is so dedicated to hiding the truth from Sunny, that's why he kept killing Basil in Black Space - Headspace Basil kept trying to reveal the truth. It's also why when Headspace Basil sees that photo of the violin and it all goes scary back at the beginning of the game, Basil gets sent to Black Space and Omori is safe in White Space. Whenever there's some Scary cutscene risking the repressive safety of Headspace, Omori goes straight to White Space and removes the door to headspace. The throne cutscene perfectly illustrates how Omori has gotten way too powerful. This emotionless, black and white, caricature of himself that Sunny created, named after his sister's piano, built to go on adventures with the younger, purpler(?) versions of his friends and protect him from the truth - keeping all his horrific thoughts in a black lightbulb (BLACK SPACE) has become more powerful than anything and will actually brutally murder the friend that Sunny loves and feels extremely guilty about traumatising, just because that trauma Sunny feels guilty about inflicting on Basil is something Omori is built to HIDE and REPRESS. Basil knows about what happened to Mari? He gets decapitated by an elevator. Anyway, OMORI is the best game I've ever played and my 3rd favourite piece of media ever 10/10 i love sweetheart
SOMETHING being mari’s eye staring at sunny through her black hair is the perfect metaphor for his guilt in my opinion. even if he’s hidden the truth from everybody else, there’s still a single eye that stared at him as he ran away. there’s always something inside of him that knows he can’t run for much longer
I just want to point out something (pun intended). Someone in-game (I'm pretty sure it's the guy in sweethearts castle) mentioned that in this world we made it so that Mari wouldn't die. I think that's part of his guilt - he doesn't want to see her die again.
11:17 Basil's "I can take your place if you want" is also pretty great forshadowing knowing that Basil does end up covering for Sunny multiple times, for example when Sunny blacked out the photos in Basil's album, Basil took the blame for Sunny and didn't tell Aubrey.
@@PR1CK3DBY0U If you decide on 2 days left that you do not want to go outside again, the album gets all scribbled again, implying that Sunny blacked the pictures out again (remeber how Aubrey fixed them and we saw them looking normal in Basil's house). Also, during that one cutscene in Basil's bathroom at night, Basil says: "When something ruined my photos, I didn't say anything, because I don't want people to believe it was you.", being very clear this time that it was Sunny who messed up the pictures
@@thecoolernagisa1156 I don't really remember but doesn't basil give sunny the album on 3 days left? What your saying would apply if it happened on 2 days left
@@PR1CK3DBY0U He does give the album to Sunny on 3 days left. But *then* on 2 days left, if you choose to not go outside again then the album becomes scribbled. And the only one who could have blacked out the images is Sunny.
@@PR1CK3DBY0UI don't know if it's already been expressed, but at the end of my game, Basil said something to the effect of "I couldn't let them think you did it, you're not like that. it was something behind you that hurt her, that ruined the photos of our memories." I gasped. Poor Basil has been in a hell of his own and I am so incredibly interested in a game that walks us through his struggles with hallucinations during all of this.
It wasn't until watching this video that I realized... Hero only learned to play piano so he could keep a part of Mari with him. I'm in the club crying rn.
A key detail I like is that Omori actually turns around to look at Sunny when he breaks the black light bulb, showing he is actually a bit shocked which would mean Sunny's been close to the truth before but Omori forces it away and Sunny hasn't realised the significance of the light bulb until the final day. This also goes in with the theory I have about dissociative amnesia and Omori being the reason seeing as Omori was most likely created after the incident happened, making Sunny dissociate when he got too close to the truth creating a neverending loop until Sunny finally listens to the knocking Kel does at the front door, helping him try to get through his amnesia
@@bradydavidson As far as I'm concerned we don't have confirmation on if it was dissociative amnesia. I know that's literally what happened I played the game and watched a lot of things on it, I was just looking for an answer as to what causes it
@@zuruaeclipse The headspace lore dump does explain that only 3 existed before headspace was created (Humphrey, Abbi, and the Big Yellow Cat) meanwhile Omori is described as a “cursed form” by the Stranger and the Branch Coral.
@@wildfire9280 The lore can be a bit funky to understand at times, I think the "cursed form" bit means that Omori doesn't fully grasp how to protect Sunny (hence the self offing in most of the not-good endings) which would sort of make it a bit of a curse to even get to a certain point where there is a very specific headspace reset which will not be a full reset, but it isn't the greatest because of Omori then being able to take over Sunny to "protect" him even more But that's my take from everything I know
34:15 Having Kel equipped as party leader in the Castle Dungeon actually does have an effect on your game since he refuses to eat the pickles at Mari's picnic basket, making it impossible to heal your party unless you tag someone else.
A subtle detail that I noticed is that in Sunny's real world you cannot heal yourself by eating candy or pizza etc. but with actual medicines and first aid and relaxation which is more realistic than in Sunny's dream world.
i love how strangely mean and violent the main characters in dreamworld often are, especially omori, who wields a knife even though the others wield toys !! the underlying fucked-upness of it is just shiver-inducing and it makes perfect sense for an unwell mind to conjure up these strange scenarios. like killing all those bunnies and sprout moles (who seem like regular people!)... it really gives even the most cheerful scenes an air of uneasiness
Also, Aubrey has a bunny irl, so a possibility for why he’s killing those bunnies could be a representation of form of jealousy. My crush pays more attention to her pet bunny than to me? I guess I’ll massacre them in my head.
It didn't really hit me that Omori's weapon being a knife was fucked up until I had Sunny bring a knife with him in the real world and ending up seriously injuring Aubrey and making her bleed. I was like "...oh. Yeah that's actually really fucked up."
in the first fight with Boss I literally didn't attack with Omori until the final hit when he refused to succumb because I knew he had a knife and thought something horrible would happen if I literally stabbed this kid who also happened to be holding Basil. It's an interesting thing to note that in headspace the fact that Omori wields a genuine knife while the others are all using much less dangerous weapons is never questioned or commented on by anyone.
I think the entire blackspace room where the gang beats up basil is supposed to reference that. Them being overly cheery and silly while beating basil up to a pulp is so eerie
1:17:22 not sure if you mention it later, as I don't wanna get spoiled, but there is something in the piano room that literally made me stare at the screen for a solid minute. If you inspect the piano, it says: "A grand piano. The word "OMORI" is written on the center." Omori is named after the piano. That his dead sister used to play.
Guys if you wonder: the fotos that you collect in the end and where mari is dying or something (sorry for bad English btw) I found text to the pictures and here it is : photo of A Wall - You heard some scoffing from behind the wall, but paid it no notice. You were in no mood to focus. You were overcame. You were sick of everything. You know it wasn't a big deal, but you couldn't control yourself. Photo of a Broken Violin - Your precious violin lay shattered at the bottom of the staircase. You threw it in a rage. Your fingers were shaking in pain... practicing over and over... but you still make mistakes after mistakes. This was all a bad idea. photo of an Argument - MARI was yelling at you. You couldn't understand what she was saying. She didn't understand you at all... She didn't understand that you just weren't good enough. The only thing you hold onto was your anger. This pain... was it her fault? Photo of a Fight - MARI blocked your path. She says that she isn't finished talking. She tells you not to run away... but why not? You did this all for her! Why was she yelling at you? You didn't understand... photo of a Murder - You lose all sense and push her down the staircase. photo of silence - You watched MARI crush on top of your broken violin. The sound wakes you up to nothing but silence. You called out to her, but she doesn't answer. Your heart sinks into your stomach. photo of Panic - It happened in an instant. You didn't mean to do that. Well, you did mean to push her, didn't you? It was an accident, right? You're not sure. You tremble your way down the staircase. photo of Desparation - You call her name, but she doesn't answer. You sweep the bits of wood from her body. Nothing but scratches. You turn her around and see her face. She looks asleep... but then, why isn't she answering? Photo of an Accomplice - You pick up Mari and drag her up the stairs. She feels lighter than you think. She just needs to lie down in a bed... She just needs some rest. photo of Disbelief - Your heart beats out of your chest. Your head feels fuzzy. You lose vision. You push the door to the bedroom open, and make your way to her bed. She's going to be okay, right? This is just a dream, right? photo of Anguish - You call her name over and over, but she doesn't answer. You watch the light from the window cast a shadow over her face. She's expressionless. You sink your fingers into her arm, and break down into tears. Photo of Guilt - You want to scream for help, but you're afraid... you mumble to your self... what if they ask what happened? There's no way you can tell them the truth. Who would be able to forgive him? Who would believe... that was... an accident? photo of an Idea - A whisper comes from behind you, but you ignore it. A cry comes from behind you, but you ignore it. You cover your face with your arms. This isn't real, None of this real. Why won't you wake up? Photo of Hopelessness - Everything appears dark. The shadows slither around you, You don't understand what is happening... Your head starts to feel fuzzy... You sink into a crevice in your mind... an empty white room. Photo of Support - Your shoulders feel heavy. A familiar voice whispers something unspeakable. Your eyes widen. It tells you to follow its lead. It says... it's the only way out... It says... that everything will be okay. Photo of Betrayal - You pick up MARI's body and lift it down the staircase. She feels lighter than you think. You feel multiple eyes shift their gaze to you. You keep your eyes toward the ground. photo of Hope - You hear the sliding of a familiar door. A voice tells you to walk. A gist of wind enters the room as the light outside engulfs you. You keep your eyes toward the ground. Photo of a Tree - As you face forward, you listen to the crunching of the grass and feel the coolness of the wind. You hear the leaves in the trees riffle as the sun begins to set... but you try to ignore it. It's all just a dream... Photo of a Branch - You lay down MARI's body and look up for the first time. Small rays of light shine through the cracks in the leaves. You relish in its beauty and savor the moment. You think... even if this is all real, if you keep looking at the leaves, that... everything will be okay. photo of a Rope - You hear pacing. the crunching of the grass sifting back and forth. You think you see a figure pick something off the ground, but you're not sure. You keep staring at the leaves overhead. Everything will be okay... You think... Everything will be okay. Photo of Hands - You hear shuffling. You hear dragging.. and creaking... and pulling. Something is happening. but you refuse to look away from the leaves. Your head feels fuzzy again. You bite your tongue and attempt to wake up one last time, but it's no use... You're still here. Photo of a Lie - As you and BASIL step into the house, you look back towards the trees and see it. The light engulfs it as it sways in the wind... For a moment, you feel at peace. You hate yourself for feeling this way. Is that all, then? 15 everything going to be okay now? Photo of Legs - You feel a cold hand clutch yours. You try to jerk away, but it squeezes back, unwilling to let you go. The hand drags you backward. You look up and see your best friend for the first time... BASIL. You see the tears falling from his tired eyes as he looks ahead. You suddenly realize that none of this is a dream. All of this is real. Photo of Something - Suddenly, BASIL stops. You look up at his eyes... but this time, they're wide awake, staring at Something. You turn your eyes toward it as well, though you wish you didn't. An eye meets yours. Your heart sinks into your stomach. You shouldn't have looked back... You just.... shouldn't... have looked... And btw thanks for the analysis
That’s beyond terrifying and it shows so much of the unimaginable thought process they went through in a short span of time. I’m shaking in me boots bestie 😀
personally, I believe the reason why her eye was open was she was just waking back up (cause i sometimes find it hard the feel my sister’s pulse but she is ok) and the horrible timing caused her to die looking right into sunny’s eye if only she woken up fast enough but alas she reawakened to late… edit no, this should also be a separate comment
@@arcticfluffyfoxy no. I understand why peopke want to think this. It makes the trauma even more traumatic. But the game hammers it into your head throughout all of black space, this person isn't breathing. You have to remember, everything we see in the game is through sunnys perception. Mari died on the stairs, even if her eyes happened to still be open when they looked back, i doubt her eyes would have been aligned with theirs. Something is what sunnys and basils guilt wracked an horrified young minds saw. They felt horrible and in their minds what they did was inexcusable. So when they looked back at her one last time, something was looking back, judging.
I just wanted to say that Basil giving away his photo album, his most prized position, is A HUGE red flag. If anyone you know does something like this, be aware: this might be in preparation for committing suicide. Suicidal people often do this to reduce their ties to this world, and to put one little bit of happiness into someone else's life before ending their own. If someone you know is displaying a sign like this, start gearing up to take action. Gear up to support. You could possibly save a life.
I didn’t even realize it until now but I think that’s why I had let my bandmates keep my drum set. I saved up so much money for it but knew they would get use out of it
as for the long, LONG development, i think its also really important to consider this was made by a very small team with full time jobs. i believe they might have wanted to make a 3-4 hour game at first, but this game became TWENTY+ hours of content... that is not easy to do. especially including all the hand-drawn animations and the extreme abundance of unique assets. the minuscule details in every single level/room is insane. even undertale which is amazing didnt have this much art/animation, etc. which was mostly drawn by one person. its really a marvel it ever got made at all ! the focus to keep going on a project like this even after setback upon setback is mind-blowing to me. and i think it's wonderful we got such a polished wonderful final product in the end. i have a lot of admiration for the determination of all the devs.
also this project was started by a person who HAD NO HISTORY IN PROGRAMMING like its such an amazing feat honestly all the time taken for this is all worth it in the end
I’m so glad someone said this! All your points are absolutely correct and I’m glad you talked about how this game isn’t on the same level as undertale(a great game, but not as fully packed as this game, the comparison seems unfair to both games) this game is so full of detail, love and care even with the small team, all those years were definitely worth it :) (also twenty PLUS hours?!?!? God!) you can feel the passion here :) I hope the fandom lasts a long time :)
@@mj-sw2nh Undertale is a phenomenal game and doesn't need to be packed with 20+ of content to be considered "on the same level" as it completely thrives on its quality. Even the NPC's had their unique charms and dialogue reflective of Toby's humour, whereas I found many of OMORI's NPC's to be bland and quite lacking in terms of personality. Of course the amount of effort that went into OMORI's creation is outstanding and leaves plenty hours of content to explore even after finishing the main storyline, but it can also make certain sections in the game feel tedious and some of the extra characters a bit insipid and uninspired as a result of having so much content, whereas Undertale thrives on the fact that every single detail was carefully considered, crafted and polished into the game it is now and what gave it its revolutionary status amongst RPGs and why its considered way ahead of its time, which it was. Basically all this is to say that I don't think comparing the two games in terms of "levels" is necessary or even accurate as they both thrive on different elements of quality and quantity. But I definitely agree that OMORI's hand drawn artstyle combined with its animation is amazing and so unique, one of the most memorable things about it. I could go on about what makes these two games so amazing, but I think I'll have to stop here lol
@@GoldenWreck yes I completely agree! We definitely are only really “differing in opinion” because of how we were affected by each game. The message of love, loss, and guilt that Omori portrayed along with its hours of gameplay (good for an exploratory little weasel like me but I understand how that would seem like filler to most) speaks to me on a personal level, along with the little things that make it up like the soundtrack (which undertale also nails) and art (which I would argue undertale also nails even if the styles are much different) along with the story and character design all feel very down to earth and relatable to me (which I’d also argue is the same as Undertale! Just slightly different vibe, more of a mature energy with a little more implications of gore and heavy topics like s*icide and such) and undertale speaks to you in a very specific and special way! (It also has for me, no doubt about it. Toby is an amazing writer and character designer and I love his work with a passion, especially deltarune) so there really is no comparison or competition between the two! Sorry if I offended you in any way, please trust that I do love undertale and I wasn’t trying to diss it for being “less than omori in anyway, it’s just a different vibe that I personally find little more interesting. (Again. Watching play throughs of deltarune really shows how much I love Toby’s more “mature” style of game creation, because I do love the direction that game took. I love all of Toby’s work, especially because I grew up on homestuck and knew Andrew hussie and Toby fox lived together and worked on their games together. Sorry again if I offended you in any way.) I absolutely thing both games are amazing in their own way, but I do still believe (imo) that they have different vibes that shouldn’t be compared just because they’re both “indie games” like a lot of people say. I hope this makes sense lmao. Thank you for your side of the story! /gen POs
@@mj-sw2nh Aw you're awesome, no don't worry you're completely fine, I guess I was just disagreeing with the wording about the games being on different levels since they both have touched the hearts of thousands and more, just in different ways. So in my perspective, they both successfully served their purposes in the topics and areas they intended to tackle, so shouldn't be compared in terms of one being better than the other (which is the impression I got was happening from the wording, otherwise apologies for getting that wrong.) Having preferences for a certain game is a different matter ofc, and I respect yours :P But otherwise you're completely right and I deeply respect all your thoughts and the awesomely considerate manner you delivered your response, even though you didn't have to do that. Thanks for being so cool about it. Hope I bump into more people like you :)
This game really is one of those examples of how something can look simple and childish, especially to a non gamer, but contains some truly gorgeous (and grotesque) art, incredible music and a story full of characters and plot that puts so many films, shows, books and so on to shame with how well it is executed. I can only add my voice to the choir - this is a very special experience that's worth having blind (lucky me) and an example of how games are not just for kids. Games are art and this game makes you think and feel so much more. It opens doors and eyes. It makes you smile and it makes you cry and it does it without making a fool of itself.
There's definitely something that just creeps me out about Omori's "ecstatic" and "manic" faces as shown in the space ex-boyfriend fight.. They're very well illustrated don't get me wrong; it just gives me that feeling that there's something off about Omori as a character.
i feel like for omori its one of those happy high type of things. it may just be me but like the kind of high feeling i get after spiraling mentally would fit the manic feeling omori expresses. i also think its cool that omori cant feel fear and sunny cant feel happy.
I read once that since Sunny is depressed in the real section he cant really imagine how he “should” be with a state happier than a simple-ish smile. And in the recycultist section Sunny cant feel happy at all, and he can only feel state 1 angry whilst he can reach state 2 (or 3 i cant remember) sad. So it’s basically implied Sunny is depressed and therefore cant imagine how someone happier should react
Yeah, when I saw the ecstatic face I was like "yo that's kinda creepy" and then I saw the manic one. And I was like "oooookay, I think I'm supposed to be disturbed by that"
@@ItsHeartstruck His dialogue states he’s attempting to remove “something behind you” for good. That eye shadow thing was created from Mari’s right eye.
@@wildfire9280 *Mari's* right eye, Basil just wants the two of them to not be burdened with the guilt anymore and sees committing toaster bathtub as the best way
On the subject of omori eating sunny's head as an apple, I think it's a refrence to Adam eating an apple from the tree of knowledge of good and evil which was forbidden. In the story from the bible, adam gained knowledge but also understood the unpleasentries of being wise such as understanding the concept of cold. Omori eating sunny's apple head represents that he becomes stronger by obtaining the knowledge of sunny and his past, but also forbidden because omori himself forbids sunny from remembering the truth of Mari's death.
@5:30: One very, *VERY* important detail you forgot to mention: When the screen goes white, it plays a long ringing tone (not the "something spooky is about to happen" tone, but a different lower pitched tone). There are only two other places in the entire game this tone is played: When Omori hauls Basil out of Black Space in the Hiko Route, and if you give up in the fight against Omori at the end of the Sunny Route. The same thing is going on in both instances. Of course, the first-time player starting this game is not going to know the meaning behind the tone and is going to just dismiss it, and people who get the "True Ending" aren't going to ever hear it again and will quickly forget about it. But, if you play the game again after seeing either of the two aforementioned endings... you just might remember it and go "woah..."
@45:00 The Headspace Photo Album mentions Hero and Kel are brothers with the line of "Ahh, brotherly love" and also, the picture of Hero and Mari sitting side by side, Hero is taller than Mari, and Mari is taller than Aubrey by quite a significant margin, so it's pretty easy to tell they're older. But, it's not too big of a stretch that some people would forget that, as that happens at the very beginning of the game and it's a good ~3-5 hours of gameplay between then and Faraway Town.
@1:35:00 ... "it's a distraction" ... yes.... yes it is a distraction. A _literal_ distraction. That's Omori's/Headspace's _whole purpose,_ afterall. To distract Sunny from the Truth. Didn't you notice that anytime you dive into Headspace, you go through these cycles? You talk about Basil with your friends, you set out looking for him which leads to these non-sensical quests, and at the end of the quest, you are either sent back to whitespace to wake up, or, in the case of the Resort/Humphrey section, you do the nonsensical quest, and then get some more deep mind stuff and/or talking about Basil and then jump back into another nonsensical quest. IMO, it's Sunny and Omori struggling against one another: Sunny wants to learn the truth, Omori wants to keep it buried. Sunny wins for awhile (the section with Mari on the docks) and then Omori yoinks control back (Lost Resort) and then Sunny manages to get a little control again (the weird philosophical stuff with the weird creatures in the section before Humphrey) and then Omori yoinks control back again (Humphrey).
@@deedatbogabong7415 If you're a new player, you really shouldn't be watching videos like these, nor reading comments about such as they are filled with spoilers. If you're a new player, then there's obviously a lot of plot that you've yet to see and it would be a rather sad tragedy if you were spoiled on it. When you finish the normal route, and especially if you finish the other route, you should _know_ what we are talking about.
1:50:25 I'm 99% sure that he is talking about being spilt into both the Stranger character and the Headworld Basil character, Stranger holding all the repressed memories Sunny is trying to hide from and Basil holding the good memories. Stranger is asking whether OMORI/Sunny believes being blissfully unaware or only knowing of the bad was the worse fate.
2:32:40 Something EXTREMELY important to note about the music here that you didn't note: The music seems to be actively trying to drown to the violin, as if his mind is still trying to repress everything, and make him forget again, yet he continues to persevere. There's also the distorted noises - they aren't there just for show. If you listen closely, you can make certain things out, and as it turns out, the distorted noises are chopped up and heavily distorted pieces of the argument that Sunny and Mari had. The two most clear things in it are a scream followed by a series of thuds, and Mari gasping and yelling "Stop it!" Honestly the attention to detail is just ridiculous, and that makes this song all the more haunting
Actually, I think killing Basil was meant to be Omori _perpetuating_ the repression by eliminating the part of Sunny's mind that has started remembering the truth (each time it happened, Basil was trying to tell you something).
I just love the final battle with Omori and how symbolic it is. Just like how “defeating” him is initially impossible, people can never fully “recover” from their trauma. It will always be a part of them even if they can overcome it and begin to heal. After we initially lose the battle is when the crucial moment comes. We can choose to either to give in to it, or we can choose to accept it so we can move on and begin to heal. Omori fading into Sunny in the cutscene after the fight symbolizes Sunny doing just that. It could easily have played out with Omori collapsing to the ground dead, but that’s not what happened. they embrace each other before Omori vanishes. Omori and the experiences that resulted in his creation are part of him and can never fully disappear, but Sunny has come to terms with what happened, is ready to move on, and doesn’t have to rely on Omori anymore to protect him from the truth.
Omori is the only playble character who has 3 levels of hapyness, sadness and anger. The bosses of this game also have this, so this is just the game forshadowing that Omori is the final boss of the true route. Edit: so apparently while I was typing the original comment, I had no clue that their was an update made that resulted in me getting "Well actually 🤓" in the replies.
In the console version of omori during the hikiomori route the boss rush is different. You play it with basil only and he has his own move set and stuff. He also has 3 levels of emotion and is a boss in the true route too.
@@egstolfo3554 yes the boss is but basil is not playable. I just thought it was another good example of foreshadowing as once again the character with 3 emotions is a boss. (Although to be honest I believe it was just done for balancing reasons, giving basil 3 emotions).
at 24:30 there is a little tidbit you missed. After you open the door for "Mari" you can go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. Doing so leads to Sunny seeing his reflection but with the distorted figure looming next to him.
1:28:53 I always wondered what the omori tape was, so thanks. But that’s not omori, that’s 12 year old sunny. He’s wearing the shirt collar, and is playing mari’s piano. He looks pretty depressed already, understandably. Since he’s also looking where “omori” is written on the piano, maybe this is when he decided to change his name.
I think that's totally it. When Sunny looks at his own reflection it kind of makes his shirt look like a tank top, add that to the piano keys right below that kind of look like striped pants and boom, you've got yourself an Omori
Omori represents the piano that started it all. Though he only wanted to spend time with her, mari took getting better at playing the piano seriously. He failed to understand and realized too late her hobby wasn't all fun and games and spending time with her became stressful with new strings of expectations attached.
A note on the fighting in faraway town, I think the fights are set up to be lost, since it progresses the story either way. Being able to heal to draw out the fight is probably not something they considered, so it probably would've been better if the enemies started dealing more damage after a certain amount of turns.
Not exactly. Each and every fight in Faraway can be won, with the last one against The Hooligans being the prime example - because if they didn't want you to win, they wouldn't have created the Pepper Spray as an item with the sole purpose of immediately winning that battle, being unobtainable at any time except right before going to that specific encounter.
@@TheTvcartoon Yes, they _can_ be won, but that doesn't mean they're not set up to be lost. Being set up to be lost just means the default is losing, not that you cannot win.
@@ITR I don't think that's the case, although this is looking like a case of agreeing to disagreeing. They're hard, yes, but I don't think they're set up to be lost - without any knowledge of the existence of healing items I still won every fight up until Kim.
My first interpretation of seeing the photo on the ground 2:15:45 was "Mari took a picture of the tree before she killed herself and Basil knew but didn't stop her and THATS why Omori/Sunny is resentful to him" ....course there were more pictures that revealed a much darker twist but it's pretty crazy how the game was able to pull that BIG twist off the whole time by setting up that obvious self-unaliving twist to throw you off.
Me too!!! I thought Mari died purely from suicide before, because we saw trees in the few photos and I assumed that that was Mari's POV before hanging herself. Although, I didn't know immediately what actually happened even after collecting the all photos.😭 I was only able to actually understand how Mari died when my sister told me. I was in absolute shock.
I love ghost Basil's line about being split in half. Sunny just hides from the world, shutting out everything and everyone, but Basil is still(somewhat) a part of it. Basil is holding this terrible secret, and torn between telling the truth or staying faithful to his BEST FRIEND(which that lines come up a lot in the photo album). Basil is in so much pain because although Sunny caused the incident, he's been able to completely repress it in headspace, while it seems Basil has only been letting that darkness consume him for those 3 years.
also it has a really good double meaning since while sunny's escapism mentally split basil in real world, his escapism also mentally split basil in headspace too; since basil is the only one in hs who sunny has triggering memories of spanning beyond the recital day he quite literally has to split who he knows as basil into the parts he wants to remember (hs basil) and the parts he doesn't (stranger). it's such a well thought out line.
Few things: * With good ending focusing on Sunny accepting the truth and finding strength to confess to his friends, which allows him to move on, you haven't mentioned the closure for Basil. If you constantly water his flowers, you will get extra cutscene, showing both Sunny's and Basil's "Something" disappearing, since he no longer needs to carry this burden. I find it interesting that you basically need to show that you care for Basil to see the part of ending that actually shows him getting better. * Small detail obvious if you've played is Sunny's crush on Aubrey. It is pretty much mentioned directly, with Basil mocking Sunny in one of flashbacks over the fact that Sunny always asks for to look at photos if Aubrey is there. A little bit more subtle is the fact that this goes both ways - not only when Aubrey is basically the only person to explicitly ask Sunny to keep contact with her, but also if you do picknic on Mari's grave, you can notice that Aubrey constantly glances at Sunny while sitting near him. * When Aubrey makes the scene in the church, I think people around explicitly mention that she went full delinquent when her father left, which apprently happened already after Mari's death. * Extra small detail about Aubrey is that even with her house being almost completely rundown, she keeps really good care of her room. * Small possible interpretation on last scene in Black Space. I'm not sure why Basil keeps dying in previous rooms, but in this one, him being killed by other party members might refer to Sunny's fear to reveal truth to others not only because they might not forgive him, but that they might also not forgive Basil.
1:22:50 Yes she does, multiple times like when you say she's not organised in Basil's flower garden, or when she says stuff like "Expand your mind Omori, I have to set an example for my sometimes messy little brother" and "Face your fears little brother".
Wow... This was an incredibly detailed analysis. Thank you for making it as it is really well done. My own personal thoughts on the suicide setup. I personally *do* feel like this part stretches my suspension of disbelief just a bit too much compared to the rest of the story, yet I can't think of a better background for the specific type of guilt and trauma the game is portraying. I do think it is possible for the kids to come up with this plan, in fact I think this would be a very different (and a much more generic) story if they didn't, and it serves to give more depth to the characters. Kids will go to any length to hide their tracks when they make a mistake, I even read about a boy of a similar age who burned his house down to hide his grandfather's death. I just think this specific method goes a bit beyond the realm of plausibility. A lot of people bring up Basil knowing how to tie a noose, which is very unlikely (even if you are suicidal, this is before wide access to the internet and a noose is not a type of knot you would use in real life) but not impossible. The bigger issue to me is how they managed to actually string her up, especially in the state they are in. They would not only need to reach a high and strong enough branch to support her weight and throw a rope over it, but also fasten it to a different point on the tree, and drag the body straight up, with added friction over the tree branch which requires significantly more force than simply dragging her body around (even up stairs) with them needing to fasten it at the same time. This is something I quite simply don't believe they would be able to do, especially as Omori is shown to have been quite despondent at the time. Regarding the parents hiding the incident, I also do not think this is as clear cut as you think. While this is certainly one way to interpret the scenes, keep in mind that blackspace shows a very discordant and chaotic version of Sunny's mind. Pretty much the whole rest of blackspace shows Sunny's interpretation of his emotions, other people's thoughts regarding him and his past so I think it would be pretty jarring if the scene with his father played out pretty much how it is shown. Regardless of the incident, his parents split up when he was just a kid, and it is very common for children of parents who split up to blame themselves, especially if the break up was acrimonious. It would be perfectly understandable for Sunny to blame himself for the split, as Mari's death as well as Sunny's isolation likely caused a strain in their relationship no matter the real events. Since his father seems to have moved away when they have split, it is perfectly understandable why Sunny might think that his father hates him, or that he deserves to be hated by him for what he did (this wouldn't be the first time he projects his self loathing onto others and is quite common for people with depression). Nothing in his mother's response makes it seem like conclusive interpretation of his parents knowing about the incident either. His sister did just (supposedly) die by her own hands out of nowhere, and then her already quiet son began regressing even more into himself. There is nothing unusual about being worried about losing Sunny as well, and keep in mind that she just experienced major trauma herself which likely deeply affected her. This is of course just personal perspective, and you might have a different one, but while I would understand the parents wanting to protect Sunny, I think there is no way they would keep up the lie that their happy daughter committed suicide if they knew the truth. Keep in mind that this game takes place around 20 years ago when the stigma surrounding suicide was stronger than it is now, so they were likely whispered about as bad parents, particularly as Mari was a happy and successful young woman. I think they would rather pretend that she fell down her stairs herself, yet it is made clear that everyone knows it is a suicide. This makes me think that the player really is supposed to see Basil's plan as having been successful. Sorry for the essay. Ultimately this is not that big a deal for me as it is a necessary scene breaking my suspension of disbelief, rather than an unnecessary one, and the reveal really is masterfully done. This is one of only three criticisms I have of the story, which speaks to its high quality (believe me, I am a legendary nitpicker). Only great works of art can sustain the amount of excellent story and character analysis Omori has, and I keep discovering new details and perspectives. Ultimately Omocat delivered a pretty straightforward story all things considered, but it is layered in such an ingenious way you can keep pulling them apart to find new ideas. Again, great job with the video. I really appreciate how you only incorporated information in the game itself (not game files or prerelease stuff which ultimately isn't a part of the story) and didn't go into post game stuff. I love the good ending, and think people constantly talking about whether his friends will or won't forgive Sunny are really missing the point of the story.
A thing I want to mention is that if the whole thing was orchestrated by sunny and basil alone its likely they wouldn't tell anyone based off some of their other actions. However, it is implied both his parents know the truth. Sunny's father is chopping down the tree where they hung her saying "you are not my son". And there is a message in a box in blackspace where sunny's mother is trying to calm him down and tells him the iconic "everything will be okay".
Adding to this, Sunnys mother is very distant in the game after the incident so I'm not sure if she would notice or care that sunny was acting different. IMO the interaction with his mother had to have happened in the moment which caused the overwhelming emotions and why it is one of sunny's core memories.
Sorry for adding on this again lol. You make a good point that sunnys dad scene may not play out the same as in the real world but I don't think its a coincidence that the father said the in the middle of chopping down the tree. I think the possibility of sunny thinking that's how his father feels about the divorce would be more plausible if he wasn't also in the middle of destroying something directly associated with mari.
@@shineseeker7 As I wrote, this is one interpretation, but I wouldn't say it is as clear cut as it is made to be in the analysis video. To Sunny, the divorce would absolutely be related to Mari as he strung her up. If he didn't, it's perfectly plausible in his mind that his parents might have stayed together and so Mari's death (or rather her hanging) was directly associated with the divorce. Added to that, Black Space is the place where his deepest fears reside, so it makes sense to me that he would be absolutely terrified of his parents finding out. To be perfectly honest, I don't fully understand you argument regarding Sunny's mother. If you are saying the scene happened shortly after Mari's death, I agree, but again, I don't really see it as compelling evidence and came up with an alternative hypothesis in my initial response. The stuff you mentioned in the first response are the arguments made in the video which I am addressing in the initial comment. It is definitely possible that his parents hid the murder, but for the reasons I mentioned in my original post, I do not find it likely, and I like pushing against established narratives as it forces others to come up with more sophisticated answers and explanations for their theories (like you did just now ;-)).
I agree and I think your perspective is also really interesting! I also had a lot fun deciding which I thought was real and honestly I still can't decide. But I think I like the parents knowing as a plot device (totally not me just wanting sunny to feel a little less guilt haha 😭 /s).
1:38:58 These characters are a reference to the music producer who goes by Slime Girls, hence the special opening as an homage/thank you to the producer who contributed to the games OST!
fun fact! in OMORI there's a secret value called "WTF value", which enables "secret events" of sorts! it ranges from 1-13, and the higher the number, the more bizarre the events are, starting with finding a photo of "someone familiar" in the junkyard (value equal or less than 2) and up to one of the Humphrey bumps in the "beach area" saying "I fucking love air conditioning" or the movers turning to shadow creatures (value of 13)
I love how this game feels much like rereading a book. There's so much detail in every little corner that you can find. I thought I interacted with everything but from watching your video, I found I missed a few things. This game was released at the perfect time for me during lockdown. It influenced my journey for my own mental health issues. While watching your review, I'm crying all over again. Love this game so much!
2:22:10 as far as I know, this isn’t exactly a fight, as in the files it is said that the picture shows Sunny(player character) trying to get away from Mari down the stairs, trying to escape her scolding, and Mari blocking his path. He is upset and just wants to get away, so Sunny pushes Mari aimlessly away, accidentally sending her down the stairs.
one of the best omori related analysis ive seen in a while. i agree on most of your opinions and noticed that you stayed objective even on those weak points of the game. it made me think and realise on things i didnt pay attention before. thank you for sharing, and good job covering on everything! just wanted to add my personal interpretation for omori eating the apple at the coral sacrifice. i believe that it represents how omori (as what he represents, as the ruler of headspace and as a representation of sunny burying the truth) keeps taking over sunny and growing stronger the more he swallows his real world struggles and memories
For my own use Intro 0:01 4:15 Prologue - Dream - 19:41 First wake (Sunny is moving, 1st something) - 25:25 Dream 42:38 3 days left (Mari is dead, Basil knows that Sunny is moving, 2nd something) - 58:32 Dream (Daddy Longlegs, Lost Library) 1:12:20 2 days left (Fall into lake, 3rd something) - 1:18:08 Dream (Mari flies into window, Branch Coral) - 1:45:19 Black Space 2:03:23 1 day left (Basil locks himself) - 2:13:53 Dream (Break bulb, 4 something fights, Truth) - 2:24:58 Wake, fainting (Basil fight, fixing violin, Omori fight 2:34:35 Wake
It’s interesting that Aubrey pushed Basil in the lake while upset (1:14:47) as Sunny also pushed Mari, but down the stairs instead. Both were in the heat of the moment and both felt extremely remorseful after the fact. Both couldn’t foresee the danger their actions and emotions could have posed. It goes to show how truly accidental Sunny’s actions were. Highlighting how his childish ways of dealing with his emotions lead to a deadly consequence and only through learning healthy coping skills (literally skills) he was able to free himself (calm, focus, persist).
I thought Omori killing Basil was like a power move on his part. Because Sunny wanted to save him but Omori wanted to scare him by showing he could act on his own that way. Kind of emphasized with how he took a seat in his hand throne and appearing like he was the king of this place and even Sunny. It was kind of a menacing scene to me, seeing the dream character you thought you had control over the whole time acting on his own will and doing things you don't want him to do.
You missed something really big! After sweethearts fight you can go out of the room and go to orange oasis, straight to where the sand statue would be and talk to him as he isn't a statue. He is similar to the branch coral and can give knowledge
"When the light has disappeared And the shadows remain here And the places that you fear Just won't go away There's a light that lingers near It still shines despite the tears You'll soon know, I'm here inside your thoughts Don't forget, it's in the toybox"
When the light is running low And the shadow start to grow And the places that you know Seem like fantasy There's a light inside your soul That's still shining in the cold With the truth The promise in our hearts Don't forget I'm with you in the dark
I'm surprised at how much you used the emotion mechanic. I used it extremely rarely. For me Aubrey and Sunny became the two strongest fighters, Hero the healer and Kel doing the triple attack or giving snacks/jam to hero to keep him kicking
I’m sure someone’s mentioned this but at 1:21:07 ish you mention that the player can now start figuring out that Mari and Sunny are siblings. Isn’t there a bunch of dialogue before that that references that? Like the first time you come back after concurring your fear of heights, she refers to Omori as her little brother. I’m not sure that’s much of a hint and more like explicit text. Edit: you say that it’s not referenced again around 1:22:50 I think. Again I’m not sure that’s right.
You're 100% right. She mentions that they're siblings multiple times in less important dialogue that is only revealed if you do picnics & talking to her when entering new areas!
also when you get the door knocking at the start of the game she says she's home and forgot her keys, meaning she lives with him I don't think they were trying to make Mari being Sunny's sister any kind of reveal, I think they just wanted to keep things more natural than having some random exposition dumps or the weird thing some people do in fiction where siblings refer to each other as "bro" or "sis" all the time in a way that's honestly super unnatural
Great analysis! Love seeing Content from this amazing fandom. A note though: Mari has mentioned being Sunny/Omori's big sister several times before the curtain scene, one of those times being right after you first meet her in the playground with Basil, which you can see if you talk to her character at the picnic blanket. She says something about how she needs to set an example for her "sometimes-boring little brother."
In my opinion, I think Something represents Mari, more specifically the Guilt surrounding Mari. The one eye represents how Mari seemed to stare down at Sunny when he turned to look at the hanging corpse. As eyes don’t close automatically close when one dies, Sunny got a good look of what seemed to be Mari staring down at him. As such, when the line “Something is behind you”, it seems to refer to the moment when Sunny turned to look at Mari’s corpse. So ‘Something’ represents the guilt and fear surrounding Mari.
when i saw that picture i assumed it meant mari was still alive when they had hung her, considerably more disturbing and also gives basil's begging for forgiveness a new meaning
@@idontknowwhattoputhere224 I'm confused by all the comments offering this as though it were some kind of personal theory or interpretation. The Something with one eye that keeps appearing is a representation of Mari's face that's burned into Sunny's mind because he looked back. The game just straight-up shows you both of them together to make the connection, it's not even subtle.
@@user-dx5wm1uz9d I doubt that was what the game was trying to improve since we have a lot of scenes with people on beds with the dialogue "This person is not breathing". I think her eye being open could have been a hallucination or just her eyes being forced upon since her body was hanged.
You can actually avoid Kel's call on the second day and are put onto the omori route - You get all the photos you have in the album from the previous day scribbled over after the day ends, as well as the normally sunny-route-exclusive bs2 room.
I still remember when I played it for the first time and had a theory very early on that instead of Sunny killing Mari, it was Basil who killed Mari and considering the fact that it would be plausible due to the fact that who's to say that Basil wouldn't be stressed about Mari yelling at Sunny, although the image of Mari hitting the ground would've disproven the fact, but I was still pretty surprised how close I was
It's a reasonable thing to think based on their behaviour too, especially considering that what Basil did is much more morally questionable and arguably worse Sunny didn't mean to hurt her, never mind kill her, he was just pushing her away while they were arguing. Basil then made the active decision to take her body and stage her suicide by hanging her
Good ending theory: interesting idea but flawed, because everyone in Faraway Town you do sidequests for sends you flowers and well wishing cards, which wouldn't happen if it was a hallucination or a dying vision
life tip for the hooligans fight on day two: when exploring kel's house, you can find his mom's purse on the dining room table. looking through it gives you pepper spray, which can help you win the hooligans fight immediately.
1:59:10 why does this area make me think of a factory manufacturing the dreamworld versions of Sunny’s friends/a lab where their memories and personalities are altered to act in certain ways when interacting with the dreamer
Wow, just a round of applause. This analysis made me learned things about the game that I didn't know. (and I have the game) You explored everything in fine detail while looking at all the metaphors. This has to be one of the best analysis for this game. Of course you could of said more about both backspaces, but that would take a whole other 2 hour long video. Just, amazing! PURE AMAZING!
Thank you for this. I bought the game a while ago and just don't have the time to play lately. Videos like this are a god sent to give me insight in a game Ive started but cannot finish
He really just explained E V E R Y little detail of the E N T I R E game This is like watching a movie but you turn on the setting for blind people where a voice explains where thing that happens on screen
fun fact: sunny's parents do indeed know about what happened, returning to blackspace you can find a box ( i believe it's in the docks areia of blackspace), and interacting with the box will give you some dialogue from your mother saying "there there sunny... we'll protect you... everything will be okay..." heavily implying that his parents did indeed know about what happened between him and mari.
@@Schnort The father does know about it though cause in one scene he’s next to the tree Mari was hung at and that something on the line of “you are not my son” referring that he saw idk about the mom but i’m pretty sure the father knows
@@-Ariezexists- of note is that this is in blackspace, Sunny's twisted view of the world. He isn't a reliable narrator. This could very well be the manifestation of his fear of telling the truth.
@@Schnort Yet we don't see any of his friends finding out the truth in his headspace, which maybe implies that there is some truth to that scene where he chops down the tree. Also, didn't the dad leave? My assumption is that both parents knew, but as the mum says, "you are my only son." The Mum couldn't lose another child, but the dad couldn't live with himself if he stayed in that family while knowing the truth. Of course, this is based off of omori's twisted view of everything, but it's my personal theory, and it gives reason to how meowy randomly disappeared once Mari died, I think the dad took meowy when he left the family.
In the 2019 demo there's a box that roughly says "You hear MOM crying softly... SUNNY... Where's your violin?" implying that at least his mum didn't know the whole truth but hey, that's removed content so it doesn't say much.
I love you repeatedly making you're team more or less happy a lot of the time meanwhile I am hard angering Aubrey making her enraged every boss for that fat 800 dmg per turn, really shows how you can always play the RPG portion of the game differently I love it!
true, i won every fight by either saddening or enraging omori and using aubrey as a tank. kel was really useless for me. i want to replay the game and try different fighting tactics
SPOILER 2:35:55 I'm not sure if its canon or not but in the truth album, people datamined descriptions for the pictures and in those (presumably) sunny describes Mari being lighter than he expected
so sad you didnt mention the very very last few frames of the good ending... basil opens his eyes and you two smile at each other... he knows, and you know, finally, that the truth is out...
Me: *Gains a hyperfixation on Omori* Me: *Sees this video* Me again: hmHmHM guess we're watching this forever Oh also Omori's laptop screen with the highly saturated white bricks is my lockscreen on my computer
2:21:15 "We don't know why he's here, but with all of you being friends, it's not a stretch to say that perhaps he had come around yours to *_hang_* out." Well, and that's what he did. It's hard to understand anything in 'Blacker Space' but we can learn there a bit about Sunny's parents and additional confirmation that they know the truth about what happened. 1. Sunny's Father entering a car and driving away, presumably leaving them. 2. Sunny's Mom is trying to conceal her pain from him, evident by her statue's face appearing normal when he's looking but twisting itself when he's behind her. 3. There's a box that says: "You hear MOM crying softly. There, there... SUNNY... We'll protect you... Everything will be okay...". They know the truth.
one other significant design choice i’ve always noticed that, like omori, basil’s color palette is also different. not nearly as exaggerated as omori’s, but instead subtle differences such as his green hair and slightly brighter clothing. i just find this interesting since basil is the biggest link/connection to the truth and therefore is also out of place within the group.
1:35:15 I think the apple being your head might’ve been adding the the theme of forbidden knowledge, ie the head of your real self and it being an apple. One of my favorite things about Omori is how symbolic everything is. Coming from someone who had a rough childhood and developed mental illness at an early age nothing about yourself really made any sense without some sort of therapy or wake up call. I went into this game blind and felt deeply heard when it was finished. When my mental illness started acting up it all felt nonsensical and confusing, but by the end of it I understand it so much more than I did than. It reminds me of how most people feel throughout the game. You start confused or expecting something completely different from the truth. Anyway, that's just my thought. Just wanted to vent a bit. 😊
Omg I got into ur channel because of ur Kendrick Lamar analysis series but man… you knowing Omori just makes me like ur channel even more. You got good taste mate. Ur underrated.
I'm a bit confused. Mari calls you little brother the second time you get into the Headspace, before climbing the long ladder. The fact that Kel and Hero are brothers, and that Mari and Hero are dating are also implied in the first then minutes of the game. I don't know why you mention them so late.
The soundtrack to a video game is probably one of the most important parts to a game to me. When I first heard World's End Valentine I was blown away. I had no context of the game at the time. Omori is the first game to ever beat my #1 favorite game of all time: Portal 2. Yeah that's right. I said it. Omori is offically one of the greats. One of those games people are going to look back at and go "Holy crap 11 years ago I feel old."
I loved this analysis (I love OMORI analysis in general, but this one especially) because of how you point out all the symbolism in the game. OMORI is easily my favorite piece of media ever made. I'd say it's story is the main reason but another big reason is how much you can analyze and theorize about how all the symbolism and imagery in the game works. Like the things that are represented in Headspace like The Big Yellow Cat, ABBI, the Red Hands, stumps, the Keeper of the Castle etc. and how they relate to the real world are fascinating and I feel like every time I play this game again or watch an analysis of it there's something new I realize and I've played through every route and beaten the game 4 times with every achievement so that just goes to show how deep the symbolism runs in this game. Beautiful.
1:40:27 actually my first time playing I struggled a LOT with Humphrey, him and Sweetheart absolutely wrecked my group lmao. The fact that I couldn’t finish his fight really soured the whole section unfortunately. But I couldn’t seem to grasp the emotions mechanic on the first playthrough, which could be why I kept dying lol
I barely used the emotion system. I had an OP strat of getting Omori Estatic turn 1 by Kel passing it to him, spamming final strike with a hit modification equipment attached so I wouldn't miss. Lowering defense with Aubry, healing with Hero, and using run and gun with Kel and the Chiken ball.
I'm all the more excited to replay this game a few times to get all the achievements, and see several events you discussed firsthand. I got the good ending and didn't touch the hikkikomori route during my blind playthrough. I love this game, and this video essay was very thorough and eye-opening to some story elements I missed!
Something I love about this review is that despite your clear love for the game, you can point out issues and flaws with the game, which is really important.
This is probably my favorite video currently on RUclips, I originally watched this to get an idea of what at all happened during Omori and if I had missed anything and I loved it to death, paying attention to the entire video in full length. But even after having watched it initially with my full attention on it, I still come back to this video every few days just to listen. I put it as background noise when I'm doing chores, I have it on when I'm playing games mindlessly, I put it on to just pay full attention to it again, it's everything I could want in a video. Informative, funny, interesting, and blends the soundtrack from the game perfectly in with the commentary it's just mwah
Great video, I hope you get more views and subscribers. You were very comprehensive, probably the most comprehensive one out there, I liked listening to your analysis because I missed a lot of optional content, and I'm surprised how important some of those scenes were! It's as you said, there can be a tad too much content such as the subobjectives in the Castle, so it's not fun playing through Omori so many times, plus with easily missed scenes you'd need a walkthrough and you'd need to go back and forth to ensure you don't miss stuff which can lead to playing it not being as fun, so it was great you made this.
Very interesting and touching. My heart hurts for the accident and everything that happened afterwards... Knowing that I lack the patience for such long games and that the combat game play isn't appealing to me: Thank you very much for creating this video and putting so, so much of it into it. My sister bought it but as I said, it's just a bit too much lifetime - your summary alone took three hours xD Not to mention playing through it several times. Thanks a lot! :)
I may have never played this game but I will say this video does an amazing job of breaking down the story while keeping me interested enough to still play on my own. The art style is absolutely gorgeous hand drawn animation was absolutely the correct way to go for this game. It’s simple yet very unique and also just kinda cute to look at, even the creepy bits lol
After watching this entire video from 1 am to 4 am I can say I was scared to move a muscle.
Yep. Me and my sister played it together and when that happened she actually panicked. She was like "we can't leave him alone, please don't make us leave him alone!"
Yup. When I first played I imitately noticed it
thanks for saying this ! i think a lot of people miss the implications because it happens before the game shows that basil didn't know about sunny moving, but he even goes on to say that he was "glad to meet sunny again, *even if it was only for a little while.*", very loaded wording.
i honestly think basil deducted sunny would most likely not have broken out of his repression before basil would die to suicide and gave it to him as a last ditch effort as a lasting reminder since he wouldn't be in sunny's life anymore, considering sunny ruining the photos the first time was what notified basil of how far gone he was in the first place.
Yeah like halfway through the game, my brain was screaming oi, i wanna know more about real world, get me out of headspace

Then he also try to avoid these feelings by doing all of your chores
We’re actually told that after Mari’s death he got affected the most! Go to the graveyard behind the church and find Mari’s grave, it’s quite noticeable.
Oh i never noticed he was crying i feel worse for hero now
I remember not doing that in my first playthrough but in my third I went back in and saw him at the piano so I walked closer expecting him to be all like "hey you should get some rest" or something hero-like but then he just sobs "oh mari" and I was like holy crap man that's depressing.
I eqw q comment once about how the real world characters represent all the states
Sunny: neutral
Kel: happy
Aubrey: angry
Hero: sad
Basil: afraid
Mari: toast

Love this analysis
It's not good that I relate this much to sunny
This is amazing
god, this is so wonderfully said.
You missed something *very* important at 1:55:00. The ringing phone room. If you DON'T grab the key, and go over to the Phone where the hands spawn once you grab the key, you're able to pick up the phone. Doing so, yields _one of _*_the_*_ most important lines in the entire game_ that almost everybody misses:
MOM: "SUNNY ... we're moving away."
Why is this so important? Think about it. This entire room in black space is dedicated to this one line. It must be extremely important, right? And the STRANGER in this room says:
"For so long, you kept the truth shut out, but something made it slip and the hole that it made won't stop growing until you've found the root of it all."
What made it slip? Well, the answer is found in the room:
MOM: "SUNNY ... we're moving away."
Think about it! This is a cycle that has repeated over and over and over and over and over again... but yet the cycle that we play through in the game is different than all the ones before it. You could say "that's because Kel knocks on the door" ... but yet... if you go the Hikikomori Route, that's not true.
Why is this cycle different?
"SUNNY ... we're moving away."
That one line, spoken by Sunny's Mother, shattered Sunny's stable loop of dreaming, finding the truth, and resetting Headspace and then doing it all over again.
Until..
"SUNNY ... we're moving away."
There's no turning back now. Their house has been sold, they're going to move, and his friends will be gone. Forever. (or so Sunny thinks at the time).
wow
What ^ they said
I agree with everything you explained here.
He know damn well that he's running out of time.
wow
i'm reading this at 4 am and the only thing i got from that was
_"SUNNY ... we're moving away."_
I know this is late but a couple of details
Mari did actually save Sunny from drowning when he was young which further adds on to the immense guilt felt by Sunny.
Hero learned piano after Mari died more than likely to keep a part of her with him. When he tells Sunny to get some sleep if you walk back in he’s crying quietly saying to himself “oh Mari…”
When Sunny pushes Mari down the stairs she dies because she snaps her neck, whether this is just happening at some point when she falls down the stairs or when she lands on the broken violin is up to you.
Something is the manifestation of Mari’s eyes poking through her hair likely due to Rigor Mortis as when people die their eyes tend to go wide open due to muscles and both Sunny and Basil made the mistake of turning around when they shouldn’t have
Sunny says more than just “I have to tell you something” his only other line in the game hilariously is “PIZZA DELIVERY”
If Basil kills himself when you go to the body Hero urges you to not look and just go home wanting to protect Sunny from seeing his dead best friend.
@@the_lost_nightingale They say he left, actually, it's never confirmed what happens to him
@@gayahhbihh ouhh i see
btw, the most common form of SOMETHING is obviously Sunny's mind's distorted view of that final 'photo' in the truth segment.
Anyway, OMORI is the best game I've ever played and my 3rd favourite piece of media ever 10/10
i love sweetheart
Whats the other favourites?
SOMETHING being mari’s eye staring at sunny through her black hair is the perfect metaphor for his guilt in my opinion. even if he’s hidden the truth from everybody else, there’s still a single eye that stared at him as he ran away. there’s always something inside of him that knows he can’t run for much longer
@@0average_enjoyer044 exactly!
I just want to point out something (pun intended). Someone in-game (I'm pretty sure it's the guy in sweethearts castle) mentioned that in this world we made it so that Mari wouldn't die. I think that's part of his guilt - he doesn't want to see her die again.
this is such an amazing interpretation
11:17 Basil's "I can take your place if you want" is also pretty great forshadowing knowing that Basil does end up covering for Sunny multiple times, for example when Sunny blacked out the photos in Basil's album, Basil took the blame for Sunny and didn't tell Aubrey.
how do you know it was sunny who ruined the album?
@@PR1CK3DBY0U If you decide on 2 days left that you do not want to go outside again, the album gets all scribbled again, implying that Sunny blacked the pictures out again (remeber how Aubrey fixed them and we saw them looking normal in Basil's house).

P
that's not even a theory, that's literally what happened.
@@wildfire9280 The lore can be a bit funky to understand at times, I think the "cursed form" bit means that Omori doesn't fully grasp how to protect Sunny (hence the self offing in most of the not-good endings) which would sort of make it a bit of a curse to even get to a certain point where there is a very specific headspace reset which will not be a full reset, but it isn't the greatest because of Omori then being able to take over Sunny to "protect" him even more
But that's my take from everything I know

i love how strangely mean and violent the main characters in dreamworld often are, especially omori, who wields a knife even though the others wield toys !! the underlying fucked-upness of it is just shiver-inducing and it makes perfect sense for an unwell mind to conjure up these strange scenarios. like killing all those bunnies and sprout moles (who seem like regular people!)... it really gives even the most cheerful scenes an air of uneasiness
Also, Aubrey has a bunny irl, so a possibility for why he’s killing those bunnies could be a representation of form of jealousy. My crush pays more attention to her pet bunny than to me? I guess I’ll massacre them in my head.
@@geegtheeeg1697 there's even a npc that rewards you if you kill enough of them
It didn't really hit me that Omori's weapon being a knife was fucked up until I had Sunny bring a knife with him in the real world and ending up seriously injuring Aubrey and making her bleed.
You didn't understand...
photo of a Murder - You lose all sense and push her down the staircase.
photo of silence - You watched
MARI crush on top of your broken violin.
Photo of Hopelessness -
Everything appears dark. The shadows slither around you,
You don't understand what is happening...
Photo of a Lie - As you and
BASIL step into the house, you look back towards the trees and see it.
I’m shaking in me boots bestie 😀
personally, I believe the reason why her eye was open was she was just waking back up (cause i sometimes find it hard the feel my sister’s pulse but she is ok)
and the horrible timing caused her to die looking right into sunny’s eye if only she woken up fast enough but alas she reawakened to late…

no, this should also be a separate comment
You could possibly save a life.
yes that was done very very well.
So in my perspective, they both successfully served their purposes in the topics and areas they intended to tackle, so shouldn't be compared in terms of one being better than the other (which is the impression I got was happening from the wording, otherwise apologies for getting that wrong.) Having preferences for a certain game is a different matter ofc, and I respect yours :P
But otherwise you're completely right and I deeply respect all your thoughts and the awesomely considerate manner you delivered your response, even though you didn't have to do that. Thanks for being so cool about it. Hope I bump into more people like you :)

I appreciate the upmost respect given to each and every high-five. Quality content.
They're very well illustrated don't get me wrong; it just gives me that feeling that there's something off about Omori as a character.
there IS though
Obviously there is something off about him. I imagine you know what he did since you're watching this video, lmfao.
i feel like for omori its one of those happy high type of things. it may just be me but like the kind of high feeling i get after spiraling mentally would fit the manic feeling omori expresses. i also think its cool that omori cant feel fear and sunny cant feel happy.
And I was like "oooookay, I think I'm supposed to be disturbed by that"
Interesting detail is that basil slashes out sunny's right eye, which was the same eye that mari was staring back with.
Pretty sure that's a coincidence and not a detail. I don't think Basil would intentionally gouch the eye of your sister
@@ItsHeartstruck His dialogue states he’s attempting to remove “something behind you” for good. That eye shadow thing was created from Mari’s right eye.

I thought it was a reference to the final battle of Earthbound, lol.
@@SeppelSquirrel you mean like how Ness's face shows up on the devil's machine? Or how Ness gains a shit ton of stats from Magicant?
@@catpip_ Those are the exact two moments in Earthbound that the apple scene Omori reminded me of. :D
Sunny wins for awhile (the section with Mari on the docks) and then Omori yoinks control back (Lost Resort) and then Sunny manages to get a little control again (the weird philosophical stuff with the weird creatures in the section before Humphrey) and then Omori yoinks control back again (Humphrey).

it's last resort,

2:32:40 Something EXTREMELY important to note about the music here that you didn't note:
The music seems to be actively trying to drown to the violin, as if his mind is still trying to repress everything, and make him forget again, yet he continues to persevere. There's also the distorted noises - they aren't there just for show. If you listen closely, you can make certain things out, and as it turns out, the distorted noises are chopped up and heavily distorted pieces of the argument that Sunny and Mari had. The two most clear things in it are a scream followed by a series of thuds, and Mari gasping and yelling "Stop it!"
Honestly the attention to detail is just ridiculous, and that makes this song all the more haunting
i hate it when i listen to the song again and hear those parts ;(
Honestly I think the hand symbolism, especially in the red room with the red hands has another important symbolism: blood on your hands.
OMORI is phenomenal at foreshadowing
In the console version of omori during the hikiomori route the boss rush is different. You play it with basil only and he has his own move set and stuff. He also has 3 levels of emotion and is a boss in the true route too.
@@albertpaxton the boss is in the PC version too, (not sure about the boss rush part though)
@@egstolfo3554 yes the boss is but basil is not playable. I just thought it was another good example of foreshadowing as once again the character with 3 emotions is a boss. (Although to be honest I believe it was just done for balancing reasons, giving basil 3 emotions).
... omori and basil are the only playable characters that have 3 stages of their emotions.
at 24:30 there is a little tidbit you missed.
The only IRL fight you can't lose is the very first one, but you have to intentionally lose to lose that one.
I think that just means whether or not you win the fight just doesn't matter.
Few things:
* With good ending focusing on Sunny accepting the truth and finding strength to confess to his friends, which allows him to move on, you haven't mentioned the closure for Basil.
The Basil dying in the prior is Omori saying "shut up" and using the most effective method
murder
Basil dying in every room is literally just Omori's desperate attempt to get Basil to shut tf up
@@Wumbonington my boy got banned for trauma dumping in the # headspace-general channel

@@yin9383 plus they look very similar like siblings and it wouldnt make sense to intentionally design them that way without a purpose
I love how when ever basil dies he just goes not gonna lie I laughed
1:38:58 These characters are a reference to the music producer who goes by Slime Girls, hence the special opening as an homage/thank you to the producer who contributed to the games OST!
fun fact! in OMORI there's a secret value called "WTF value", which enables "secret events" of sorts! it ranges from 1-13, and the higher the number, the more bizarre the events are, starting with finding a photo of "someone familiar" in the junkyard (value equal or less than 2) and up to one of the Humphrey bumps in the "beach area" saying "I fucking love air conditioning" or the movers turning to shadow creatures (value of 13)
"I fucking love air conditioning" has to be my favorite wtf event seriously
For my own use
Intro 0:01
4:15 Prologue - Dream
- 19:41 First wake (Sunny is moving, 1st something)
- 25:25 Dream
42:38 3 days left (Mari is dead, Basil knows that Sunny is moving, 2nd something)
- 58:32 Dream (Daddy Longlegs, Lost Library)
1:12:20 2 days left (Fall into lake, 3rd something)
- 1:18:08 Dream (Mari flies into window, Branch Coral)
- 1:45:19 Black Space
2:03:23 1 day left (Basil locks himself)
- 2:13:53 Dream (Break bulb, 4 something fights, Truth)
- 2:24:58 Wake, fainting (Basil fight, fixing violin, Omori fight
2:34:35 Wake

Yes she does say that you are her little brother when you come back for the first time.
You're 100% right. She mentions that they're siblings multiple times in less important dialogue that is only revealed if you do picnics & talking to her when entering new areas!
also when you get the door knocking at the start of the game she says she's home and forgot her keys, meaning she lives with him
I don't think they were trying to make Mari being Sunny's sister any kind of reveal, I think they just wanted to keep things more natural than having some random exposition dumps or the weird thing some people do in fiction where siblings refer to each other as "bro" or "sis" all the time in a way that's honestly super unnatural
When you play hide and seek she says "Big sister is always here for you!"
That’s not a opinion it’s literally what the game tells you😂
@@idontknowwhattoputhere224 I'm confused by all the comments offering this as though it were some kind of personal theory or interpretation.
You definitely had a lighting issue, it was not that dark in my game. Idk it just looks like you have a weird filter over your game

@@readypicklesomg fr I thought I was going insane
@@squiffyt9300 fair enough
I still remember when I played it for the first time and had a theory very early on that instead of Sunny killing Mari, it was Basil who killed Mari and considering the fact that it would be plausible due to the fact that who's to say that Basil wouldn't be stressed about Mari yelling at Sunny, although the image of Mari hitting the ground would've disproven the fact, but I was still pretty surprised how close I was
It's a reasonable thing to think based on their behaviour too, especially considering that what Basil did is much more morally questionable and arguably worse
Sunny didn't mean to hurt her, never mind kill her, he was just pushing her away while they were arguing.
Basil then made the active decision to take her body and stage her suicide by hanging her
After over 120 hours and 100% all achievements I cannot believe I’m still learning about the game. This is a very well thought out analysis. Good job!
46:41 Aubrey never actually swings her bat at anyone. She only uses headbuds and kicks as attacks and uses the bat to intimadate her enemies.
Good ending theory: interesting idea but flawed, because everyone in Faraway Town you do sidequests for sends you flowers and well wishing cards, which wouldn't happen if it was a hallucination or a dying vision

Thanks for the video. I've played only the few hours of the game and was really happy someone could tell me the rest of it in such a good way.
He really just explained E V E R Y little detail of the E N T I R E game
This is like watching a movie but you turn on the setting for blind people where a voice explains where thing that happens on screen
its safe to say he explained about 20% of all the details in the game, more testament to the fact that omori lore is braincell killer
This is one of my favourite games and you cover everything beautifully!!!! Thank u for this
as someone who is so painfully bad with metaphors, thank you SO MUCH for this video! i understand and appreciate OMORI so much more now :)
fun fact: sunny's parents do indeed know about what happened, returning to blackspace you can find a box ( i believe it's in the docks areia of blackspace), and interacting with the box will give you some dialogue from your mother saying "there there sunny... we'll protect you... everything will be okay..."
heavily implying that his parents did indeed know about what happened between him and mari.
I think that's just them comforting him, it doesn't really imply that they do or don't know.

Well, and that's what he did.
*basil literally dying multiple times in backspace* anyways this did make me laugh

It’s easy to miss I guess
True but in all of the picnics she mentions you being her little brother

The soundtrack to a video game is probably one of the most important parts to a game to me. When I first heard World's End Valentine I was blown away. I had no context of the game at the time. Omori is the first game to ever beat my #1 favorite game of all time: Portal 2. Yeah that's right. I said it. Omori is offically one of the greats. One of those games people are going to look back at and go "Holy crap 11 years ago I feel old."
thank you so much for the analysis!! honestly this video is so underrated but i enjoyed every second
i love this analysis! great video, man!
Same, and I was never able to beat Perfect Sweetheart...even after getting pretty good at the emotion system. 🤔😩
