Tamas Kalman In the C64, incredible sound design like this could almost salvage terrible games. Robocop was a good game, no doubt about it, but if Guru Larry is a reliable source, it's just frustrating that this port was purposely made unbeatable to cover up flaws.
Wonderful knowledge and information gentlemen. I agree. This deserves a masterful modern treatment - yes i said modern (2023 writing this) and modern things are streamlined mass produced horrible nightmares in 2023 but note the word masterful and then it could be tremendous
Same here! I didn't even play the game much since I just got destroyed within about a minute... but the music was pretty mind-blowing. Others in that category were some tracks from Nightbreed, Snare and almost every tune from Sly Spy Secret Agent was an absolute banger on the C64. I used to pause the game at the start of each level and just enjoy the music for ages and ages.
Definitely sounds like a theme for someone having their life ripped away and being forced to become a killing machine. Wife and son waving goodbye at the end...
I remember back in school, our teacher in music-class complained about all of these horrible squeaking and squealing sounds kids are confronted with when they are playing video games and Game Boy. He said that kids would lose touch with real music and with art in general. In the next lesson, I brought the robocop-theme to school, which I recorded on tape from my c-64. I asked him to listen to this track I brought because I wanted to prove that even video games have "real music". He really was impressed and said it would content real poetry. Then we started a discussion about the evolvement of music with the whole class and he stated that he might be wrong. He always was open to new things and was ready to learn a lesson himself.
+VanillaAbstract one of the bests indeed. it's amazing how these sounds are still perfectly valid after 30 years. so much amazing sound engineering in this song.
That's why I'm here dude. It stuck in my head for 30 years. The C64 had some belting chunes. Like this one. ruclips.net/video/821SBiTNvdg/видео.html Maybe you had to be there I dunno. They even take out the baseline @1.33 and bring other shit back in to induce euphoria. There's a school of thought that believes it works phenomenally well.
I like how all the comments on all the various versions of this song are either about Ariston, Dilbert, or Space Station 13. Never anything to say about the Robocop games, even though that's what all the uploads are crediting.
I missed all that other crap. Don't know anything about Ariston, didn't see it on Dilbert, never heard of Space Station 13. It is, always has been, and always will be _simply Robocop_ to me.
Now you know how it feels when I go on youtube to find music from my teens and childhood and the comments are full of toddlers going, "GTAV brought me here, LULZKEK," "GAME GRAMPS mentioned this song once in a videooOMGOMG!!!!!111!1!oneoneoneone1!"
+Anton Namtet (Patcheresu) the movie is an excellent social commentary from paul verhoeven. but this music is an independent masterpiece from jonathan dunn.
Despite all the fancy graphics of modern games there was just something very magical about the 80s if you owned a C64! The sounds talented musicians could get out of the sid ii chip was just mind blowing, I honestly can't say how many times I'd just leave a game running just to listen to the music!
I love coming back here to listen to this track. Its such an awesome track. I have just performed and recorded my own cover version to listen to in case this was to no longer available. :)
Oh man this brings back memories. I loved this music so I much I set a microphone up against our TV's detachable speakers so I could record it to cassette tape!
I remember sitting there the first time I loaded this game watching the loading screen appear line by line and being blown away by this picture. how easily pleased we all were back then!
Music can take you back to a moment in time. Old SID tunes are like hug from the 90s through time, taking you back to moment of simple safety and contentment.
I was very young when I first bought this game and thought the designers had misspelled "anger" when they used the word "angst" in the top scores like you mentioned. I had to look it up in a dictionary and realized it was perfect.
Urgh! Speccy version hits me in the feels, Gameboy one is technically the best. Never understood the SID chip. Doesn't mean it's bad but I don't like this one. Thank you for preserving it.
This song always makes me want to cry. It’s so mournful, hopeful and bittersweet. SID Masterpiece.
Sound Interface Device@sarcasticdude2320
incredible sound engineering on the c64 sid chip, even after 30 years, a jonathan dunn signature song.
Tamas Kalman In the C64, incredible sound design like this could almost salvage terrible games. Robocop was a good game, no doubt about it, but if Guru Larry is a reliable source, it's just frustrating that this port was purposely made unbeatable to cover up flaws.
luckily i didn't care much about the game itself. i loaded it only for this music.... just as i do it now =)
Wonderful knowledge and information gentlemen. I agree. This deserves a masterful modern treatment - yes i said modern (2023 writing this) and modern things are streamlined mass produced horrible nightmares in 2023 but note the word masterful and then it could be tremendous
Me and mate (R.I.P.) would just stare at this screen lost in this tune ! 14 in 1988 and this was peak !
( the Batman loader had a similar effect )

It's One Of The Greatest Soundtracks Ever. The Beauty Of It Cannot Be Explained.
Robocop was high-key brutal and violent and low-key heartbreaking

"Video games rot your brain", said every adult when I was a child.
Wwhy Shrek is piss
I'm actually impressed with that teacher. Somebody who can admit they might be wrong and act accordingly is somebody worth knowing.

What a beautiful story mate!
2020 ... I still listen to this
Haunting, mesmerising, nostalgic. Masterpiece.
This is the best song on the commodore 64.
+VanillaAbstract one of the bests indeed. it's amazing how these sounds are still perfectly valid after 30 years. so much amazing sound engineering in this song.
I agree.

HAHA nooooo , manyyy great tuness

I never heard an "emotional" C64 chiptune track... to find it in a Robocop game of all places :)
+Kaffeebohnson Very much agree.
OKAY Bro you want emotion from a C64? Please check out the great Gianna Sisters theme
That's why I'm here dude. It stuck in my head for 30 years. The C64 had some belting chunes. Like this one. ruclips.net/video/821SBiTNvdg/видео.html Maybe you had to be there I dunno. Giana* and I prefer the Speccy version.
Dave, it was also used in the UK in an advert for Ariston.

Can’t stop coming back to this song, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written
I’m glad to see people still listen to tracks from the C64. They truly are timeless
Gil Lucas this song is like the cold side of the pillow to me :)
Haha, I just said the exact thing on a completely different video.
i think this might be the greatest song ever made
"AVALIABLE"
Holy shit this goes so hard.
They could have cheaped out with some pixel version of the robocop theme but instead someone put their soul into this
This is one of my all time favorite pieces of C64 music. Thanks for uploading!
Same here!
I'll let you go if you can tell me which came first: Ranch, or Cool Ranch?

This is by far and away my favourite piece of music ever created.
I decided to watch Robocop after hearing this masterpiece.
So I did, for the first time.
Goddamn this was a good movie.
Excellent choice Sir!
+Anton Namtet (Patcheresu) A work of art, reminiscent of a time that is forever lost.
+Anton Namtet (Patcheresu) the movie is an excellent social commentary from paul verhoeven.
but this music is an independent masterpiece from jonathan dunn.
I've played the game for a long time but never saw the movie until last year. It was really good.
The last real stop motion movie if I remember correctly...
Despite all the fancy graphics of modern games there was just something very magical about the 80s if you owned a C64! The sounds talented musicians could get out of the sid ii chip was just mind blowing, I honestly can't say how many times I'd just leave a game running just to listen to the music!
And on... And on... And on....
Ryan Creed
And Ariston...
Fun Fact: that commercial was directed by Stephen Norrington, who went on to make Blade! :D

Came to comments for this... was not disappointed :)
SID pulled to the max, one of the greatest compositions for C64
Why does this song makes me want to cry?
It's like a song of memories passing by as you breathe your last breath. Your own ending title song
I remember sitting there the first time I loaded this game watching the loading screen appear line by line and being blown away by this picture.
how easily pleased we all were back then!
Such a great and emotive piece of music, what a legacy JD left!
Great tune - instantly recognised it from the Channel 4 documentary this evening!
It's been stuck in my head since. ahahaha.

they spelled available wrong. i hope someone was faced to bloodshed for that one.
Lol, I am happy to see I was not the only one. And are probably not the only ones. Just the ones here.
I wonder what Jonathan Dunn's inspiration was behind this.
This song makes me think of a small, seemingly insignificant car driving through heavy rain against a murky grey backdrop
Haha idk why though
Back in the day if you saw that Ocean screen you knew the game would be a banger... or at least the music
Huge sound, epic. Hats off to the programmers
plz dont kill me
+Ben Engel I'll let you go if you stop posting Dilbert 3 memes on Robocop videos.
+Ben Engel plz don't kill my business card
+Ben Engel you crushed my heart
This song is so murder-suicide.
@Layne Krusz Cool ranch
It is refreshing to know I was not the first to notice this sounds like Dilbert 3
@@mikehunt3436 well, Dilbert 3 is a cover of this tune after all lol
don't fall for it. pointy-haired boss guy is ready to profit from carnage...
Actually quite beautiful
The most emotional 8Bit tune ever created.
@cheetahman91. This tune reminds me of my late father. Thank you for uploading this.
I never once heard this in my life, until I found this a few years ago. But at the time and now it sounds so familiar and I do not know why.
They used it on an advert for washing machines or something.
this has no right to be this good.
Welcome to the station, crew. Enjoy your stay.
Search for 'Ariston on and on' on youtube. It's a really cool looking UK commercial from back in the day that uses this piece.
What a great assortment of music. Thanks for the uploads.
And a Space Station 13 legend started right here with this track....
Check out the Uk Ariston advert from the 90s. One of them has this exact track
And on and Ariston.
Music can take you back to a moment in time. Old SID tunes are like hug from the 90s through time, taking you back to moment of simple safety and contentment.
Beautiful. #wow #whoa

I put this SID file on a diskette with Scott Adams' adventure pack. I labled it "RANCH".
Used to listen tothis on tape so many times when I was 8.
Crying at the computer rn
This is a fucking masterpiece
And on...and on....
Botchamania
All the names on the scoreboard were negative emotions.....
I was very young when I first bought this game and thought the designers had misspelled "anger" when they used the word "angst" in the top scores like you mentioned. I had to look it up in a dictionary and realized it was perfect.
Please don't kill me
I'll let you go if you can tell me which came first. Ranch or cool ranch

...Ranch?
I loved this track so much as a kid that I recorded it to tape from the TV.
Compare 1:03 and Entombed "Addiction King" 2:33
Yep, deffo
This is where the Dilbert 3 music came from!?!?!?!
"avaliable" lol
cant get this tune out of my head
This honestly sounds like something you'd hear in a fantasy RPG, the fact that it came from a Robocop game of all things is intriguing.
Murphy. It's me.
Dunns' masterpiece
Excelent chip tune! Thanks Jonathan!
Urgh!
Speccy version hits me in the feels, Gameboy one is technically the best.
Never understood the SID chip. Doesn't mean it's bad but I don't like this one.
Thank you for preserving it.
I knew the Game Boy version slapped but holy freaking crap.
Beautiful
On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and Ariston...

and on, and on, and Arist...
And on, and on, and on and on and Ariston
dehumanize yourself
why would you ever press start
Ariston and on and on and ariston...
The lyrics to Damn it feels to be a gangsta would fit over this really well
Is Jonathan Dunn still with us?
I love this song, right up there with the Rambo one.
First Game lunched on my brand my C64 back in the day:)
This should be in the new Robocop
"Ranch...
