In this video I am explaining the easy way of skin tone mixing and blending with acrylic colors on canvas. I am using water as the only medium. No retarder is used for this painting process.
I have started this painting with a under painting with burnt umber and white to add tonal value. Then applying the undertone of Burnt sienna and Yellow Ochre to cover the initials sketches. I have applied many thin layers to achieve the desired effect of the skin tone. Most of the blending is done with dry brush technique with minimal water on the palette.

I am a struggling painter for 2 years. For the past years, it was really hard for me to learn techniques and how to get the right skin tones. How I wish, I should've seen your channel before. I felt so blessed to discover such great artist/creator like you. I have REALLY learned a LOT from your videos. YOU'RE A REALLY AMAZING ARTIST!💗✨
I am not such a great artist. But I am really glad that you have found my videos helpful 😊 Thanks a lot for your appreciation and comment 🙏. Keep Painting. Good luck 👍
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt Yes, you are a great artist! You are very humble!
I am binging on your videos.
Wow 😍, I find it difficult to draw with acrylics, but after watching this video, I became excited to paint again.
Sure you should try. I think you'll love to see my recent videos too. Please have a look. Thank you so much for watching 😊
Awesome painting AND tutorial 🎊 🎊 🎉
Glad you liked it ☺️ Thank you so much 🙏
Thank you. That was mesmerizing to watch! The music was quite pleasant and unintrusive too.
I have battled with acrylics for many years. I love and hate them at the same time, but I persist so the battle continues. Not sure what make of acrylic paints you are using here but there is nooo waaay mines will stay workable as long as yours using only water. Even when I pre-mix my colours, ready to go, they dry far too quickly whereas yours seem to work like oils. Plus - and this is crucial - I can NEVER mix enough of each colour, not EVER! That is a real problem for me as I usually do both head/face and full body portraits on 24 x 30 inch canvas. I have searched but as yet have found no help with this dilemma.
Thankfully my paintings always look good in the end, but by heck, what a bloomin struggle to get there. I think I get by on luck, determination and pure fluke. Acrylic - or any painting process - should be therapeutic but instead I could do with therapy during and afterwards. Most unsatisfying and frustrating. I know there are a lot of factors involved but can't help feel that there has to be a better way, that I must be doing something wrong!
Thank you so much for appreciating my work. Glad to know that you liked it.
Acrylic dries even for me. But I prefer to work in layers, rather than pre mixing them.
Also you can use water mist spray to protect your color mix from drying.
I have many videos on it. Hope you will find something usable.
Thanks again 😊🙏🎨
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt Thanks for your prompt reply.
I always use a water mister which def does help. Also have various slow-dry mediums, retarders etc, and a few do show promise but time will tell. Recently I bought some Golden Open acrylics but haven't really experimented enough yet however they also look promising. I think the canvas size is part of the problem. It is quite big and most videos I watch demonstrate on a smaller scale. Anyway, fingers crossed something will work for me!
I have subscribed because I like your presentation and the way you paint - and you respond to your commenters which is a huge plus! I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Again, thank you sooo much and have a wonderful day! 😊

Wow that's great thanks for sharing 🙏🏼🙏🏼👋🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼🌹 God bless You brother 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thanks a lot for your appreciation 🙏
Nice to see a work with the proper underpainting application. I like your technique a great deal. I've seen artists that either blend still-wet acrylics together on the canvas or wait until dry before applying the next layer, and blending it with the existing. Do you have a preference?
Thank you so much for appreciating my works. I usually change my method depending on the subject. But mostly I do with wet on dry. Because Acrylic usually dries while you paint. You'll hardly get time to blend wet on wet. I hope you'll find my latest video more interesting. I have applied glazing technique in some of my recent videos. Please have a look.
So wonderful sirrrr. Watching from Philippines. Continue to make artworkssss. :)

U're great........👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much for your appreciation 🙏😊
Your work is absolutely amazing! I am hooked on your technique & videos. I am attempting a painting where my heads and faces are small, maybe 2 inches by 2 inches. When they are this small, should I paint the skin tone first or do as you did here and paint the facial features first? It is very fine detail work and the eyes are looking down so you only see the eyelashes. Thank you so very much.
For small studies like yours I would suggest you to go for glazing or grisaille technique. You may like to see my recent video, where I have discussed the same. Here you start with a detail monochrome underpainting with an eart tone. Then apply colors of multiple layers to achieve the skintone. Hope you can do well. Good luck👍 and thank you so much for your comment 😊
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt thank you so much. I will look for that video.

I really love you videos..sir do you give time to dry after applying every layer?
Acrylic usually dries fast even when you are working. So you don't need to wait much. Sometimes I wait 15 to 20 minutes. Thank you so much for watching 😊

Hi Debojyoti, thank you, thank you again so much for sharing this learning and a beautiful step by step work. 🥰👏🏻
What palette do you use? It looks so smooth.
Thank you so much and I am really glad to know that you liked my art videos🙏🙏🎨. I am just using a plastic plate as my palette here 😊😊
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt I love that!
Excelente ...😍
Thank you so much for your comment 🙏😊
Thanks for sharing your talent. My question is, how long to let dry once the preliminary shading with the grays has been done before applying the general layer and starting to color.
For acrylic you don't need to wait much longer. 10 to 15 minutes is enough. Sometimes I apply next layer almost instantly after completion of the first layer. You may love to visit some of my recent videos where I have shared more details. Thank you so much for your appreciation. Have a nice day 😊🎨
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt
Do you mix any medium in your paint to extend drying time?
No, I don't use any retarder or medium for my paint. I use plain water mist spray.

This one is awsome ....I am a new subscriber and a bigginer .....can I use acrylic paint on 300 GSM ivory sheet...will I be able to get the same texture...

Such a great video. Thank you. May I ask what thinning medium you are using?

Thank you for sharing, can you tell me the brand name for colors? do you use water to thin the paints?
Thank you so much for your comment 🙏 I mostly use Camlin Artist Acrylic colors. Yes I use only water as medium. Usually with a spray bottle.
Is that a wash stroke after you put an outline on the eyes glasses and dark part? What are colors you used?
For dark colors, I mostly use Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber. Here I am using washes to make it lighter or darker where necessary. Thank you.
Wonderful 🎉🎉🙏
Thank you so much for your appreciation 🙏😊
Excellent
Thank you so much 🙏😊
Great video. Quick question why do the two color values in the beginning if you just go over it with an amber over coating? Why not just start with the amber overcoat Yk? Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for appreciating my work. I prefer to start my painting with a warm undertone. As the yellow is a dominant colour for most of the facial skin tone, I use ochre with white most of the time.
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt ahhhh okay. Thank you for clearing that up
This is such a great video, I found it to be very helpful. I can’t wait to try this technique of yours!!! . I was just wondering what brush sizes you were using and the names please if you don’t mind sharing. Thank you so much.

Hi there, what brushes do you use in this video? Or for portraits. Size? Material? Shape?
Most of the time I use white bristle flat and nylon round. But I use different types of brushes time to time. You need to experiment for your liking. Thank you for watching 😊

I mostly use white bristle flats and nylon round synthetic. Any brand wi work. Thanks for watching 😊🙏
So should we always start with the eyes and other features when we start a portrait?
Not necessary. But protecting those valuable areas of a face with some dark colors is helpful in later stage. Thank you.

Is it necessary to use gesso on a primed canvas?
Not always necessary if your canvas is well primed. But additional layer of gesso helps to maintain a desired texture over the canvas surface. I use it for additional texture or smoothness.
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt texture is always nice, but will it make the painting process “easier”?

Which pencil you used on canvas
I mostly use 2B or HB pencil for canvas drawing. Thank you for watching 😊
Can you suggest me the acrylic paint I should purchase as a beginning to start painting.
If you are from India, Camlin Artist Acrylic colors are the cheapest and best. Look no further. I use it mostly. If you have enough to spend you may prefer winsor Newton, liquitex, golden, pebeo etc.
@@DebojyotiBoruahArt Can i use fevicryl acrylic colors becuz i have them already ... and. Do they work in same way like this colors?
@@manishaphadte1702 Yes you can. But the quality is different a bit. Fabricyl has lesser pigment strength then artist grade colors. Try once.

Please visit my recent videos. I have given all links there in description. Thank you so much for watching 😊
how much time did you taken to make this painting
It took me around 8 hours. Thanks for watching 😊🙏
Do you use retarder? I am a new painter and my paint dries very fast. I am not able to blend so well .
Also, your work is so amazing. I want to paint like you some day
I don't use any retarder or medium. Just plain water mist spray on my palette to keep it moist. Thank you so much for watching my art 😊
Is there any diff in acrylic or oil painting colour ?
Acrylic are water based and dries faster and Oil are oil based colour and dries slowly.
