Australia Road Trip: Brisbane to Melbourne

- Actually Noosa, QLD to Frankston, VIC.
Done over 3 days at the start of October 2018.
At 4x speed.
Route: Noosaville to Eumundi then following the Bruce Hwy/Pacific Mwy to the Gold Coast. Continuing down the Pacific Hwy/Mwy to Forster for the first stop. Down into Sydney and across the Harbour Bridge. Down towards Wollongong and over Sea Cliff Bridge before heading inland to join the Hume Hwy/Fwy to get to Yass for the 2nd stop. From Yass we went a little inland to break up the highway driving a bit, but rejoined the Hume at Albury and continued into Melbourne. We took the Western Ring road to go over the Bolte bridge and then followed the coast down to Frankston via Beach Rd/Nepean Hwy.

Came across this vid while looking for something that echoed our June 2012 holiday drive from Sydney to Melbourne via Canberra, Eden, Lakes Entrance, Philip island. Amazing video that kept me engrossed for the whole 6 hours. Then at the end you say it was part2 argh! So now watching the first one - only 5 hours and 54 minutes so easy watching lol. Just having a break now you arrived at Gosford for a stop before pushing on. Perfect covid-19 lockdown therapy.

Guys if your all listening this takes 2 days if you leave early enough in the morning like 6:00am you will get there in 2 days but if you leave late at 5:00pm it will take 3 days because I have done it so thanks for listening this is my first comment on any video

Great video. Glad you took the scenic route as it was more interesting. From the Sunshine Coast you could have avoided both Brisbane and Sydney and gone down the Gore and Newell highways but they would have been a lot less interesting. (both for us and for you). loved it. Brings back memories of crossing Sydney in the past. an exciting but painful experience requiring much patience.
Ahhhh, Sydney. I'm not a fan, and we got a little lost after the bridge too, as expected. One of the learners wanted to go over the bridge and see the opera house, so that's why we went that-a-way. Glad you enjoyed it!

You also forgot the M39 that's Shepparton as well that also takes you to Brisbane from Melbourne via Shepparton and Tocumwal
Lots of ways to go if you have the time. If we had of gone that way we would have taken much longer, not just the drive, but we would have had to stop in at West Wyalong, Griffith, Finley, Cobram and probably Cohuna due to all the family up that-a-ways. Once past Sydney the Hume saves so much time and fuel that it's difficult to ignore without good reason. I had to be back at work the next day so time was the main factor there.
Can you change the title from Brisbane to Melbourne to Sunshine Coast To Melbourne.

This drive was about the same as driving from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh via the coast road. Vietnam is beautiful!
Hello. Just watching your vids again and was wondering if you have any more planned now travel seems a little easier? Hope the virus didn't affect you all too much.
Yes, due to work I've been in isolation for a very long time. I am going mad being cooped up ... still. However, I have months of leave banked up and a change of life situation means that I should be able to take the opportunity to do a whole series. I'm thinking of recreating a trip I did in 2011, which was clockwise around Australia over 4 months. This time I'd do it on a motorbike. This is just in the planning stages. You'll know it's getting close when I start posting motorbike rides to shakedown the video capture from the bike ;) I'll have a lot more views to choose from now too, not just front dashcam. I can show the highlights too, not just the road.
@@aussieroadtrips From what I've seen in the news it has not been easy for Australia but hopefully you're coming to the end of it. The possible trip sounds terrific and the planning will be complex but hopefully good therapy for you, I hope you get to do it. Stay safe and good luck.
Intersections on freeways?!
Yeah, that's fairly common. Most of the between city freeways have evolved from goat tracks and during that process folks built houses and towns along the way. Most of the towns have been bypassed now, but there are many small settlements where its just not worth bypassing for the amount of traffic.

I've done this trip countless times since early childhood. Every way has it's benefits and things to see. A ton of variety. For this trip, there were certain waypoints that were required that dictated the route. Also having learners drive much of the way meant that I tried to pick some challenges for them. They both wanted to experience the boredom and tiredness that you get on a long highway drive for starters, they wanted some high speed single lane to practice some passing. They are planning on travelling Australia on their gap year, so I wanted to see that they made good decisions and would be safe. You need to be able to recognize 'too tired' long before you are too tired and take that break. There was a request to go to Sea Cliff bridge. I had to go to Woolongong for work anyway. If I'm not sticking to the coast, then I usually prefer to go inland and hit Goondiwindi/Dubbo/Cobram. Unless I just have to go Sydney/Melbourne as fast as possible then I avoid the Hume usually.

I had thought that the no U-turn at traffic light rule was a NSW thing. It didn't help that the NSW car in front of me did a u-turn too. Not that that is much of an excuse.
I had done a bit of research of NSW/QLD rules so I could 'school' my learners too. *sigh* dunno how I missed that one.

Its really just to show the state of the roads, how long it may take, etc. A bit of slow TV.
If you don't like this one then you're really gonna hate the series I'm making right now. I'm doing an inside and outside lap of Australia with daily videos. Today I'm at Lambert Centre, so the trip is well underway.
