The global setting for grouped plugins was a new one for me. I usually use the groups to create different views in large sessions. Group only drums, only vocals, only bus/aux tracks. Then you can recall the memory location and only view the selected tracks in the group.
This is why i love my job. Ive been doing this for about 8 years and i can always learn something new 👍🏾.. your never “to good” to learn. Thanx for the tips my wavy brother 🌊
Also, the “Do to selected function” has another level you can add shift + alt + command (windows key) and it will cascade your input/output selection. So if I’m setting up 6 fx busses - select the 6 aux tracks, press alt, shift, command the click input -> bus 1-2, then the other tracks will auto fill 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 , 9-10 and 11-12. That one I figured out by accident. Saved me a lot of time.
I actually knew a lot of these, But def learned some new stuff too. Subbed. On the first tip - playback at half speed, I use that trick in editing when I need to hear really small differences in rhythm or hear exactly where the down beat is to make a cut. Also you can use it to record really fast midi parts. I’ve written some parts that are just too fast for me to pull off on midi keys for example. Boom - hit record, shift, play and then record the midi part at half speed. Plays back at normal speed. Also midi doesn’t playback pitch shifted down an octave when you do halftime playback, only audio tracks do that.
Great video and I did learn a couple of things which isn't easy bercasue I've been using PT since Day One! lol Anywa, one of my favorite tricks I use when I'm dealing with a grid track is using the Set Sync Point function. This is very useful when you need to copy a clip that starts a little before the downbeat of a measure or any grid value like Qtr Note or 8th note or Bar. You select the bar or beat you want to mark within a clip or region with your cursor, hit CTRL Comma on Windows or COMMAND Comma on Mac to set a symc point. Now you can grab that clip and Use the CTRL Copy function to slide it to a new spot on your grid and it is perfectly in sync with the grids.
Wavy Wayne, I appreciate everything I have learned from you RUclips presentations. I would love to be able join the study, but I am not available enough because I work everyday, try to spend some time in the my studio in the evenings, and some on the weekends, I am on stage. When I have time for studio, I find you. My DAW is a Tascam DM3200 (which I am still learning). I would be awesome to link up with someone has my setup. What do you recommend Wavy? I would great the speak with you. Thanks.
This is a great video for people who do not have Pro Tools Certifications. I have taken 5 Pro Tools classes and have received my User and Operator license and if everyone one here really LOVES these tips then go get your Cert's!!! This is just the tip of the iceberg! Also ear training will help immensely to tell if something sounds good. Also What Cert's do you teach?
Been using PT since 2000 and I still knew to watch this video. Grouped plugins? I’m so annoyed thinking back how many times I’ve needed that and will need it 🤦♂️ this video kinda makes me want to take the courses
WaVY WAYNE , My question is what type of faDER CONTROL THAT YOU HAVE IN THIS VIDEO AND DOES IT COME 32 CHANNELS AND OR WHAT AMOUNT OF CHANNELS DOES IT COME AND WITH?
I also use import session data.. I would like to ask also, I'm still on protools 9 I'm stuck in finishing a record and need to obviously upgrade my system.. what is the best protools equipment to get these days. I am really out of touch.
Dang..i also use nudge.. old school tape. The last tip almost hits my current problem. I have two bars in yellow with dots on either side that i cannot seem to get rid of. •| |• 👈like that but in yellow. I have to place the blue marker manually every time.. it's a pain.
Im glade ive seen this frfr it was more stuff i didnt know like in my last song on my channel i didnt use all those tip thanks wavy your a real blessing my guyy yee
Show them how to map a tempo in protools. If the audio is recorded without a click track but you need to add a midi instrument, you will need to make a tempo map so that you can use a click when you overdub
MAAAAAAAAN... that last one, 😂✊🏿💥. I've just been dealing wt it for years and never bothered to look it up. The *nudge is going to be a huge help, too. I normally drag clips wt the mouse, by ear. This will help me get it more spot on.... Wtout sliding too far either way. Good look! #burnstrumentals
The "Spot Mode" tip is a beauty. Thanks dude!
Men, as an ProTools Veteran there were a couple of these that will really improve my workflow. 👌🏽👌🏽
Bar and Grill, You always put a smile on my face while learning. Thank You.

I love using the half speed playback to do certain automation rides that I can do better when it’s slower you should try it wavy Wayne
That last tip explained my past month. Lol. Thank you! Much appreciated! Much love!
You are so welcome
Ive been looking for #2 for ever🤘🤘🤘
Thanks for all the very useful tips an tricks
I learned a lot! Wavy Wayneeee the 🐐
Aye so with the half speed I can just do a print track record it and put that section in as a chopped and screwed or is that too complicated?
You can do half soled recording. Just hold shift when you start recording.
@@waynewav boy ain’t no way I ain’t know that 🤦🏽♂️
Just put the tracks in Polyphonic mode and you can play the session back at any speed you want, not just half speed.
@@TheAerovons will try that today in here mixing now
Wavy you’ve done it again fam. 🔥 content as always. That group plugins joint was whoa! 🤯
Great vid brother. Thank you!
Brilliant! You always help me when I need it. Thanks
I don’t have Protools but I still watch your videos because I enjoy watching the knowledge you share. Still waiting on that logic video Wavy 💪🏾
I ain't ashamed to say I didn't know any of them... I appreciate the info, and will likely come back to this when my memory fails...
Great video, Wayne. Thanks for making it.
Very helpful for beginner and intermediate users ! Great job ;-) 1 out of 10 was totally new to me, even after 25 years on PT !

Hey man, been using pro tools since 2004 and I honestly learned something so thank you.
I remember these from my protools certification course, great shortcuts to use

Good stuff! Thanx! 🎧
Definitely learned something new
WaVY WAYNE ,
My question is what type of faDER CONTROL THAT YOU HAVE IN THIS VIDEO AND DOES IT COME 32 CHANNELS AND OR
WHAT AMOUNT OF CHANNELS DOES IT COME AND WITH?
I welcome your knowledge and thank you for sharing it in such a groovy way
Cool...thanks...WAVY...much appreciated...✌💜😃🎧🎹🎤🎸😁👌
Shift + Option just changed my life
Thank you for the info bro
Everything was helpful for me 🔥🔥🔥
What circumstance would you ever want to solo every track?
Haha. Your last tip was a challenge I learned before this video. You’re right drove me crazy. That “N” is a bugger.
Any way to automate the half speed playback?
Brilliant! I knew about two out of ten :)
I also use import session data..
I would like to ask also, I'm still on protools 9 I'm stuck in finishing a record and need to obviously upgrade my system.. what is the best protools equipment to get these days. I am really out of touch.
Maddd Useful💯☝🏾
That second to last Gem is great for aligning your beat/vocals on the grid.
anyone do the avid certification? i’m interested in it but don’t see any reviews
What software do you use to record your video? I tried using OBS Studio but it doesn't show my plugins when I record.
Dang..i also use nudge.. old school tape.
The last tip almost hits my current problem. I have two bars in yellow with dots on either side that i cannot seem to get rid of.
•| |• 👈like that but in yellow. I have to place the blue marker manually every time.. it's a pain.
Is the course live with you and everyone working together in real time?
you the best bro
Im glade ive seen this frfr it was more stuff i didnt know like in my last song on my channel i didnt use all those tip thanks wavy your a real blessing my guyy yee
Holding down command key while selecting tracks allows you to randomly select tracks for adding or removing plugins
Show them how to map a tempo in protools. If the audio is recorded without a click track but you need to add a midi instrument, you will need to make a tempo map so that you can use a click when you overdub
Thx teach🔥
