Susan (Harley Jane Kozak) discusses the perils of parenting and the thrills of marriage with Karen (Mary Steenburgen) and Nathan (Rick Moranis).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This feel-good ensemble comedy tracks a quartet of suburban siblings and their families over the course of a single summer. Hardworking Gil Buckman (Steve Martin) and his stay-at-home wife, Karen (Mary Steeenburgen), have just a few months to help their oldest son, Kevin (Jasen Fisher), overcome his high-strung behavior problems before he'll be relegated to special-education classes. Gil's difficult relationship with his own father, Frank (Jason Robards), has led him to become a would-be super-dad for his three kids, so he takes his son's difficulties more than a little personally. Gil's sister, Helen (Dianne Wiest), is trying to raise a moody, adolescent son (Leaf Phoenix) and an independent-minded daughter (Martha Plimpton) with no help from her well-off ex-husband, who's more interested in his new wife and family. Gil and Helen's sister, Susan (Harley Jane Kozak), meanwhile, must participate in the too-scripted Big Life Plans of her anal-retentive husband, Nathan (Rick Moranis), whose overachiever zeal infects even their toddler daughter. When long-lost brother Larry (Tom Hulce) show up with yet another get-rich-quick scheme, he brings with him a surprise addition to the family. Screenwriters Babaloo Mandel, Lowell Ganz, and Ron Howard negotiate their varied subplots with a deftness and comedic touch that transforms this conflicted clan into a suburban everyfamily.

I still think he's cute. I also respect him very much for semi giving up acting for his kids when his wife passed away. Rick is a legend and always will be no matter how old he gets

+Ross DiamondThief I agree, Rick Moranis is great. He was offered to do a cameo on the 2016 Ghostbusters movie that starred the girl Ghostbusters but, he refused to do a cameo. (Harold Ramis did a cameo as a bust on that movie even though he passed away in 2014).

I think most films nowadays don't really appeal to him so he doesn't really want to be in them

I can't believe these people represented 30-somethings in the 80s. They acted and looked 55 (except Rick Moranis who appeared youthful)
Maybe steve Martin's a stretch, but most of the cast looks good, plus their supposed to be all different ages

I really love this movie. I've watched it a lot and never felt bored. Best Characters in this movie, in my opinion, are Susan, Julie, Karen, and Gil. The ideal parents are Gil & Karen, I wish my parents were like them when I was young😂

batmanvspredator yeah I agree and it's one thing to want your child to be educated and successful but Nathan instead of letting Patty play and be a child he either had her reading books or doing math while the kids played and he was over doing it in my opinion, he never let her have any fun and that's just wrong and at the beginning of the movie when Nathan was talking to his Daughter about her just having an ordinary career she was giving her Dad a look like what're you talking about because she's so young.

Does anybody else notice a strange melody in that little girl’s scream? It’s like: C#-D-E-D-C#, C#-D-E-D-C#-D.
I watched this on VHS in the mid-2000s and became obsessed with the hidden music in that scream, even incorporated it into a song I wrote at the time.
I specifically sought out this clip on RUclips to still if I could still hear it and sure enough, there it is at 0:20. Am I crazy?
