Sry sir but there are some who are willing to choose IFS above IAS and IPS and I am among them . According to me most interesting Job profile if of IFS officer he gets to represent the India on world stage , he/she can bring two nations closer . And last but most important job is to coordinate with in intelligence agencies like RAW , MI and IB and be a part of the warriors who works behind the scenes.

he answered it that once upon a time this service was very popular but due to advancement of tech now everyone is able to visit a foreign country and work which was one of the biggest perk of this service hence its not that popular now( this just one reason there are other reasons too)

Its like sir just read my mind. Im an aspiring Foreign Servant and when i look at the way of exam conducted its very inaccurate, there should be different exams conducted for MEA. Its sad to know that people arent much enthusiastic about it, they just take it cus there are no options left. I just hope that The Universe Will be with me in this journey of upsc.

i mostly agree with Dr. tharoor just the point where NRI's to be considered for the IFS is not such a great idea coz to know a country well one needs to have a first hand experience there , anyone living outside looking at the country knows merely 20% of what a indian knows , so when it comes to represent india a home gworn indian is needed , the cadre strength definitely needs to be substantially increased

Sir you are the chairman for the parliamentary standing commitee on external affairs. Please make an IFS exam. UPSC CSE asks more questions about wildlife than international relations. I know that knowledge of wildlife is important but why isn't IR made a priority for IFS officers?

    • @smallchillipepper8660

Exactly. IFS exam should be conducted individually. Cos it's so difficult from other civil services.

I also reread Dr. Guha three non- fiction books in my collection and then reread with greater sensitivity and attention Dr.Khaled Hosseini novel, " And the mountains echoed " I had in my collection. In new year my brother shipped me a kindle in which were ebooks on environment issues. But now presently reading Sir Stephen Fry 's first novel " liar" which is hilarious and funny. I am a great admirer of P.G. Wodehouse, and have a whole collection of his unique novels. Based on which is the " Jeeves and Wooster " series. Actually I was a high school teacher of English language and social sciences. I like to be curious about authors and want ideas they have. Apart from that after reading a certain novel/ novels both fiction and non- fiction I see their interviews either on the Google, RUclips or on a American television channel called In depth C- span book TV which I recommend to you too. one of the major aspect of a diplomat is to know the problems people go through in their homestate and then figure how the country where they are serving is dealing with it or has dealt with it in the past and implement to their state now tell how can a nri fulfill this role? First know what a diplomat does whats his job rather than just making stupid reforms of scrapping the upsc examination, dont forget upsc has given a lot of great diplomats to india
