- "Hickman County is located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,690. The county was named for Edwin Hickman, an explorer and surveyor who was killed in an Indian attack at Defeated Creek in 1791." - Wikipedia.org
"The county was established in 1807, and named for Hickman at the suggestion of Robert Weakley, a legislator who had been a member of Hickman's surveying party. The original county was vast, extending to the southern border of the state. Hickman County was reduced in extent when it partially contributed to the formations of four counties: Wayne and Lawrence Counties in 1817, Perry County in 1819, and Lewis County in 1843."
Factoids: The county is the subject of the Johnny Cash song "Saturday Night In Hickman County.
Hickman County is also home to the Gosh Darn Gravel Grinder! "The GOSH DARN was founded in 2015 by Dave Thienel and Greg O'Loughlin. Their love for the miles and miles of gravel roads, creek crossings, primitive camping, and adventure found everywhere in Hickman County, Tennessee inspired them to create a way to share the fun!" - goshdarn.org
Another race also calls Hickman County its home, Gravel Revival! - gravelrevival.wordpress.com
In this video, JOM rides a route close to 40 miles in length. This route includes plenty of hills, some u-turns, some re-routes, bush bashing / tromping about a cow pasture, a dog or two, and plenty of beautiful gravel roads adorned with beautiful scenery. I look forward to riding this area in the future!

Great video. Thanks
A great adventure ride.
Gravel in Tennessee is nice glad you got to experience some of it. On your adventures in the states you should also try out the Delta Epic adventure courses in Mississippi. lots of routes near Jackson Ms
Thank you Brian, I have a ton of riding to do in the future. I'm well acquainted with Jason Shearer, those courses you talk about are on my to-do list.
Great video!
pay raise for JOM!
Haha, yes!
I’m moving to Spring Hill next week, can’t wait to check out this route.
Whenever I enter a pasture with cows, they all come running towards me as soon as they spot me. I get that they're just curious but I usually backtrack my way out of the pasture as soon as possible...
Thanks up in the northeast need snow tires this weekend
Yikes! With that said, I wouldn't mind trying some of that madness, could make for an entertaining video (mostly me falling about the place) :)
Can you recommend a entry level ,less pricey gravel bike for a casual riding.
Hi Jim, check out PoseidonBike.com - I reviewed their entry level bike a while ago on the channel - ruclips.net/video/_ZIZWwVZX1I/видео.html
That’s my school
I’m not familiar with the Gosh Darn event, but it’s common for event courses to run on private property with the permission of landowners. Those permissions get revoked when cyclists start riding the property on other dates. Do not do this!
I'm familiar with how this concept works, hence my comments in the video, and departure.
That’s definitely not a public road lol
Yeah, a wee bit of a misroute. Err.
You should know better than to be trespassing on rural property, jumping fences and sneaking across fields. People watch out for each other around here. I've had a guy pull up on me in a car with a shotgun in the rack... wanted to know what I was doing out there. You could end up in a creek, so you should ride a Lynskey to at least show that you purport to support TN products.
"gingervytis", you must be fun to ride with. I don't need your lecture. I didn't see a single no trespassing sign posted until I left the property. No harm was intended or done. If I did meet a landowner whilst on private land, I wouldn't cop an attitude, that is for certain. For the record, I'm far better acquainted with Lynskey than you probably are, and I happen to own two!
@@deinsalleine5337 well said.
Wow, you did nothing wrong here JOM!!!
@@GravelCyclist Sir, don't listen to gingervytis at all! Sorry you had to see that display of disrespect from a fellow Tennessean! I have lived here in Hickman Co. my entire life and nothing like that ever happens. If anything people would want to talk to you about your journeys! Very safe community as well as tight-knit. Keep up the good videos! :)
I was shot at as a teenager skateboarding at a church in Lyles and confronted with shotguns hiking in pinewood
