This happened to my partner and me, but we weren't smart enough to know the rule (at the time) or to call for a tournament director. The opposing team said it was partner communication.
When you made an appeal to the ref... you stated the ref called the ball in... Rule:6.C.11. An “out” call made after the ball bounces is a line call. The ball is dead and play shall stop. If, upon appeal, the referee overrules any type of “out” call, it is a fault against the player or team that made the “out” call.
Thanks. Here you go 6.C.11. An “out” call made after the ball bounces is a line call. The ball is dead and play shall stop. If, upon appeal, the referee overrules any type of “out” call, it is a fault against the player or team that made the “out” call. Exception: If the match has line judges, the baseline and sideline judges are responsible for the call. (See Rule 13.E.2)
Only if the ref saw it in. The ref and the players partner can overturn a bad call. Some videoed match at the pro level you can challenge line calls. If the ref was watch for a foot fault and the play was away from him not seeing it, then the bad call stands.
Thanks Tony, great info.
Appreciate it Jim

It happens. Now you know :)

👍
Great point Tony.
Ty Don
Hold on. If a player calls the ball out but swings, doesn’t the swing override the out call?
No, it does not. Once the ball hits the court and the player makes a call that it's out, the play is over for that point.
Dead ball once the ball lands and call is made.
👍
Great info! Can you point to the rule where this is defined?
Thanks. Here you go

@@BestPickleballCoach Got it. I suspect a loud “Out” call prior to the ball bouncing could be considered a hindrance and not just “communication”?
So if it is a bad call, the callers side loses the point?
Correct
Only if the ref saw it in. The ref and the players partner can overturn a bad call. Some videoed match at the pro level you can challenge line calls. If the ref was watch for a foot fault and the play was away from him not seeing it, then the bad call stands.
