I just converted my old router into an access point and now my home is blanketed in Wi-Fi.
And now I wait for the ladies.
LMAO legend says you still waiting
Just gotta have patience, man. They'll come...someday.
Wow man, save some for the rest of us!
Maybe you set a password on your wifi. Remove it and you will see the ladies come. And also DM me your physical address
Well, hey there.. : )
"Why?...............because thats how netwok wok."
lmao love this guy man
lol!!
Jose S. Haha😂 thought he was getting into subnetting right there.
Why ? because I'm dong ngo !
I laughed exactly at that point...
wtf like great explanation...
I’m stuck on step 1 I don’t have a tape...
I'm stuck on step 0: I have no router.
finally someone, who explains the process without taking a 30 min video. This was clear and concise and really helpful. Worked first time for me. Thank you
Finally a host who can do his job. Great presentation!
I did everything and it didn't work :( I then used heavier tape (Duct tape) on the ethernet port... Works like a charm. Please people use the right type of tape if you want this to work.
😂😂😂
how can you explain more plzz
how ! can you explain more plzzz
He's kidding
Dood will u just come to my house and do it for me 60 dollars
The Dong gets the ladies.
But is the Dong more popular than the Wang?
Sorry Shadow Warrior joke :)
But to stay on topic. It worked! Thanks for the clear explanation. I've been struggling with this all night.
Dude has enviable confidence, and ladies love confidence.
Dongles
get key ... lol ......
I was about spend some cash to purchased Wifi extenders when I remembered this video when I found an old wifi router laying in a box. Helped me bring wifi to my new Rheem water heater in the garage. Thank you Dong!
For anyone wondering why the reupload, at 2:08 they corrected the 192.168.1.2 which earlier had a type of 192.186.1.2
"Why? that's how networking work". I've had teachers like that in high school
Heck. I had those in college...
My Mum is like that when she dont have ideas to explain further, then she gives me a weird face and walk off fast like trying to avoid me from asking more questions related to the issue. haha
Those are indians
@@misterhat5823 must be why you're stupid.
@@---tw6qk You're trolling a year old comment. Who's the stupid one here?
“And the ladies love a connected home” me, a lady watching to connect my home. “He’s not wrong!”

You should still be able to use the WAN port as your AP link. That is how I have mine set up and it works extremely well and I still have 4 free network ports.
using the wan port makes it act as another router in your network, don't listen to this guy this is bad advice
What's more beautiful is that you can access the configuration page of any of the two routers on any wireless connection they stream
I learned ladies only want me for my Wi-Fi
how do u connect the old ome to new one wirelessly?
I have a BrightBox router and also had to change mode from PPPoE to Routing. I tried it like 5 times with just changing the settings you mentioned, and it didn’t work. It didn’t even boot. I always had to do a hard reset. Now I switched this mode to routing and works great! Thanks so much :-)
This video was very helpful in converting my old EE router in to a WiFi Hot spot. It was an easy set up with your help. Very good, now my wife is happy with me as I can now get the Rainbird water irrigation system going. Thanks again for your advise on you video.
I know its a reupload, but I still watched it because of Dong Ngo.
"Because why???....because this is how networking works"...Thanks buddy...really explained it there
Because it would literally take hours to explain to the fundamentals of TCP/IP routing to someone who knows nothing about it. Go watch Eli the Computer guy if you are curious, its interesting stuff.
I agree. I know how networks work, so when he said that, I understood why. I chuckled.
Terry Kellum what a cookie?
You dont know how many thousands of people u have helped. Thankyou thankyou so much. I ve fixed my wifi black spots thanks to this clip 👍
1:02 When I modified my TP-LINK Archer C7 to work as access point, I also changed firmware to DD-WRT and there you can actually move WAN port to bridge with other interfaces (wlan cards and LAN switch), so you can use WAN port as if it was 5th LAN port
for most people they don't need or want to go that far but yes, if you needed to use it as a switch as well you could do that to get an additional port as well.
I don't have an old wifi router. Just watching because of Dong Ngo.
same
i do and i have a plan to make it into a pen testing device
Thank you for the tutorial! this really helped considering my old router didn't have an access point option so i opted with changing my ip and disabling my DCHP. And now it works!!
OH NY GOD!!
Thank you so much!!
This is THE easiest, shortest and clearest tutorial on RUclips on how to do this.
I was breaking my head over the long complicates ones.
Love that IP address range explanation
"Why? Because that's how it works"
Ah thanks bro
This guy deserves his own channel!
This is great! I have three routers which were three different network and I was getting fed up with my phone switching to the wrong network the whole time. Now I have one network that works in my whole house.
That was my question. So you're able use the same SSID for each AP?
Bro I love you, you're an actual goat!!!!!! I was about to waste 30$ on a new access point and saw your video, I turned an old modem I had and was about to throw away into an access point and I don't think I've ever felt more accomplished xD
It's not really a waste, the one thing he didn't mention is many people are using the stock firmware. Many of these routers are compromised, and never get patches. For example, all WPS settings should be disabled. Some routers can't. If you're smart enough to flash a third party firmware, make sure your router is compatible and voila security patches.
This guy is awesome...lol 2 favorite lines..."WHY..Because I can"....."WHY.....Because thats how networking works"
Bro your closing comments made me sub 😂😂
thank you so much! very easy to follow, very straight forward, no stupid small talk, nice and brief.
Dong Ngo! You are INDEED the man! Whenever I Dong Ngo what the heck is going on with my computer, you are there to help. What don't you know about computers? That I . . . Dong Ngo! But seriously, Thank you so much for this. You are the only one of 30 videos that has actually explained for Windows and Mac how to do this. Keep up the great work my friend cuz I Dong Ngo what I'd do without you!!!
Miss this guy
First , thank you a lot for the clear description, but is there away to make it happen while connecting them wirelessly, without the lan cable
this man is the best of CNET
I'm having issues with the end. You have two options to change but I only have one. DHCP server settings for on and off, I don't have the ID address separate.
I like this Guy .. not long winded and straight to the point ..great job man !
1:59 "why? because that's how networking works" lol thanks for the explanation
😆
the Dong is the best one at CNET
Same SSID? Same Channels?
You should USE ONE SSID name for routers AND same channel
I saw this like two days ago? Reupload?
because this channel needs more dong ngo
Because double the Dong.
Same is this just Re-Upload
yes my same video also Re upload,

First video that I found that even I could do correctly. Thank you so very much Dong Ngo
Is there a way this could be done without a cable?
Re-upload? must because its Dong Ngo.
Should i see the old router in the DHCP clients list? Or can I ping it? How would I know if it works other than arbitrarily checking for signal strength?
can we use the lan port on the access point?
Thanks Dong Ngo! I managed to stuff this up the first go through... although thanks to the internet i managed to reset my router and now it has been successfully set up as a AP. WARNING: DON'T TURN OFF DHCP server function BEFORE switching to new IP Address or else you will brick you router and have to factory reset for it to work properly again... which I did and re did the steps 3 and 4 and it was successful! YAY LADIES IN MY HOUSE ENJOY YOUR NEW WIFI AP!
I assume what happened, was your router logged you out after you changed the IP. Or you turned DHCP off, and it saved it. Yes, static IP assignment first, then DHCP off.
i think we fixed it or we got a new router now
it depends on your router,
my asus has ddwrt, and it uses the wan port to send the bridged signal ,
sometimes you can change the port you have it on also.
On the second router will the Wi-Fi work as a extender and will the Ethernet ports work
Mine is maybe more recent. The only thing I needed to do to make it work was to change the cable from the "Internet" connection to one of the LAN. I did not configured anything and it started to work. It's kind of counter-intuitive to use an output port as an input, but that's the way it works for this use.
It's not an output port. How do you think a device communicates through it?
I have a question! My main router ip address ends with .0.1 and the ip of the router that i want to use as an AP end with .1.1
Do i still have to change ip address of the second router since it is not the same as the one from my main router ???
Hi , can you add a second / third and maybe forth -- router as an access point ?????????? .

Thank you great tutorial 👍
Can I achieve the same thing but wirelessly instead of wiring in the video?
Does this create a separate network that you’d need to connect to at different places in your house? Or does it extend the same network?
You set it on the second router. You can have it have the same as the first, or a totally different one.
Thanks alot I live on 4 acres of land with 3 buildings that are about 100ft apart and I needed Wi-Fi in all 3 buildings. I bought a nighthawk v3 router hoping it would cover at least 2 of the buildings but it covered one perfectly and then building 2 it only worked with certain devices. So Ive now taken 125 feet of Ethernet cat 6 cable in addition to the original Wi-Fi router my isp cave me in addition to the nighthawk v3 router using this method and after alittle bit of finagleing I now have stable enough Wi-Fi in all 3 buildings for my use purposes. Thanks a bunch.
Mille mercis de France ! Thank you soooo much from France. Thanks to you, I succeeded with an old router to extend my wifi network, where it wasn't received before. The main trip I always failed in the past, was trying to connect the second router on the WAN port, instead of the LAN. Even if I didn't use a scotch, with the help of your tutorial you have transformed a bit of my life. Once again , big thanks guy !. Have a nice life.
Many thanks. I'd almost got this sorted out but hadn't realised that the DHCP had to be turned off to make it work. I'd been living with having to plug in the WAP after booting my second computer on the extended network because I couldn't get on the internet if the WAP was already powered up.
You provided the final piece in the puzzle, to I'm most grateful for that.
DHCP is the service that automatically gives your computers and phones and stuff an IP address, so having 2 things on your network giving out IP addresses can cause conflict. It's like if on your street 2 houses had the same exact block number. Delivery people would have no idea who to go to lol
i changed its gateway but after that i cant seem to connect to it again
do you have to connect the old router to the new router through a network cable? I wanted to know how you can make it an access point without cables by placing it in another place in the home and using the signal to be a signal booster to covsr backyard.hpw can d router be used to extentend signal the wirelessly ? is there a way to do thatt? and what would it take? instructions appreciated
You can't do it wireless let but an easy way is to get PowerLine adapters and plug one in to each end.
Something that's not mentioned is that the network cable needs to plugged into the LAN1 port at both ends. I had mine in LAN1 at one end and LAN4 at the other and it wouldn't work. Also when you change the IP address on the access point, don't panic if you cannot get back into the settings straight away. Give it a few minutes.
Thanks so much you just made my day with this message,I haven't been able to connect to my other router and this simple trick did it thanks again.
"It's crazy how sexy wifi can get" lol
Will work for WIFI.
That new router you got there is more expensive than Me
very clear, very good presentation.
Can you connect the access point wirelessly?
Short and direct to the point
Does this only apply if you want to use this for 1 device?
Miss this guy. Does he still work for cnet?
not only very creative but also very funny! I liked this video right after I saw with no additional request.
Could I also use the access point router as a switch?
i like the way you put it: simple and direct to the point. and yes,, BOOM ! the ladies everywhere
Best "how to" video on youtube...love this guy
So after following the steps. I would have to use a long Ethernet cable to connect my new router & my old router if my old router is two floors above my new router?
Thanks for the informative video. After conversion, can I used the other available LAN ports on the old router?
Yes
@@triggahappyyt5420 Thanks.
I see all kinds of used routers at the local goodwill, i am wodering if there is a defacto manufacturer/model that are easiest to work with and best performing when used as a AP.
The ladies are just QUEUEING up outside to use my wifi now
Worked awesome for me. Took about 5 min to setup. Now I don’t have any dead spots.
is it possible to use the other ethernet ports to connect a computer on the access point
Is't possible to connect the AP to the main router via WIFI instead of a cable?
Can you add the same ssid and password on the extension router as the main Router ? Or will would that cause a conflict?
Thanks for this, very helpful, it might be worth mentioning that if you are connecting two hubs together then use the Yellow Ethernet ports on both ends. Also the Slave Hub will have flashing warning lights even when it's working fine.
That's why he taped over the WAN. And the other one's WAN is already in use...
You, sir, just saved me $100. Thank you
hootbutler so did you make your 2nd router wireless with out the cable or did you use a hard wired from the main router?
you forgot to mention which mode to use? disable nat?
How do you do this when adding an apple airport express to an existing non-apple network?
can i still use my router but wirelessly i mean without it being connected with the cable to the main router/modem?
Thanks so much and it worked perfecty for me without taping over the WAN port. Thanks so much for the help!!
Help me!
Why does my Default Gateway in the command prompt have letters and colons in it?
CAN I MAKE 2 ACCESS POINT WITH 2 OLD ROUTERS IF YES DO I USE A DIFFERENT IP ADDRESS FROM THE FIRST AND HOW I CONNECT IT FROM THE MAIN ROUTER OR CAN I CONNECT FROM THE ACCESS POINT .
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP
great video. will it give a different public ip address than the main wifi source?
Should i put the old router(without ap mode) outside the main router dhcp range or inside the dhcp range ?
When you set up a second router as an access point is it going to show up as a whole other network on your devices that you have to keep switching between? Because I've set up my asus router as an access point and I think it is kind of annoying that I have to switch the networks depending on where I am in the house.
THank you!!! you saved my rest of the day!!! I had spent half a day turning my dlink into access point using all those confused videos.
Ladies loving the signal.😂
X-cellent instructions and superb dialogue. Many thanks.
Great presentation
Will It act like 2 Different wireless Network or will it both be a Same Network.
I have a Siemens Speedstream 6520 and the menue is completely different and so is the terminology, can you provide instructions on how to do that with the speed stream modem, i cant seem to get it working!
Ye but u still need to connect with cables both routers, how do i do that if i cant reach it to my main router which is located on second floor of house?
Can you use the old router to wirelessly connect to the primary router and then use ethernet cables from the old router to connect the other devices that don't have wifi cards? I have a few devices upstairs with no wifi, and all wifi devices I tired so far require internet to even get them installed and running. So that defeats the purpose. I can't run cable as it's not my home.
Hi, what if my old router is far away from the main router. Can I connect to it via Wifi to make it as an AP as well?
