We hadn't had a Burning unit yet. Burning was the first and only Dendro reaction in the game until 3.0 and now we finally have a unit centered around that and he's hating. I dunno, I figured he'd like her.

My favourite thing about Emilie is that at least her passive "buffs" burning while nerfing quicken instead of restricting it to dendro/pyro. just talking about the not-restricting-concept

I think that's Mono Pyro's problem for having only Xiangling and Bennet as the Pyro Core for so long. So long as she can enable consistent melts with good damage, I'm happy.

3U is straight up a nahida powercreep omg. She need 1.5u every 3s or 1u every 2s to sustain her own burning i believe. Not sure if its enough if theres hydro or cryo in the team though!

People thought emilie would be the Nilou of burning but she's actually Navia for burning. I actually do plan on pulling her, it'll give me an excuse to use burning team, and maybe a character that actually buffs burning will release during Natlan.
Yeah, I'll pull on her too. I want to have more options for Hydro-less teams, as most of my teams do use hydro, whether it's Navia with double hydro, Ayato hyperbloom. Wrio freeze, Arle vape, etc.
Emilie is Yae/Kuki/Baizhu of Fontaine, evidently. She’s for upcoming characters, not the existing ones. And her not snapshotting is likely a sign that pyro archon is a full team buffer, but that is more speculative than her being a part of preparation for Natlan

He also hates Yelan's burst animation time while XQ's E is one of the worst feeling abilities to use in the game, but he considers XQ the most fun unit to play.
I'm not saying that I agree with him that XQ is the most fun unit but there is a world's difference between XQ and Emilie, the number of teams he enables is staggering, not to mention the defensive utility makes it so content is less frustrating to deal with. I'd be surprised if I can fit Emilie in more than 2 teams, hell I'd be surprised if I can make her do something that enables a team rather than just exist as an off field damage bot.
XQ is a four star tho, plus his kit is actually well designed for a 1.0 unit, Emilie on the other hand is A FIVE STAR from VERSION 4.8, obviously people expected more of her and they're right to do so
I mean I've been feeling "bored" of characters after pulling them since forever. Even Neuv, and that's after the fact that Fontaine does have my most favorite units to use out of any region. It's just fatigue of the game being so old where it becomes "oh it's another new release, ok." . Don't even feel the same excitement for new region expansions anymore. I think the game needs more cinematics for creating hype and not snail-pacing the lore for the VERY END of the game.
True, like, even If I waited for a character, sure, it's fun to build thrm and do different teams, but after 3-4 rotations of Abyss idk how I feel them (except charas I enjoy as charas). Esp someone like Neuvi, Nahida, Kazuha and etc.
Alright im gonna cook up some CONSPIRACY Hoyo realized the lack of 5 star Fontaine units from the main cast and decided they need to artificially inflate the 5 star cast from that region instead of making more 4 stars. This resulted in some characters who were probably originally kit-made to be 4 stars but their rating to be changed and their stats increased. Sigewinne is absolutely the biggest victim of this practice as known how LIQUID SHART her kit is right now, and Emily is their final attempt at this practice before Natlan
That's the thing, "different teams" are not as good, that's why they need more teams that are better than the existing team. Otherwise there would be little to no incentive to invest in different teams.
@@None38389 if you are bored of playing something that would be the incentive to play something else in a game. Power creep by itself won't fix someone's problem of not playing different stuff. It'll just make it harder for people who did not invest vertically or who aren't getting the new units. Eventually it leads to more playstyles being unviable
This gotta be one of my biggest gripes with the guy and it's not even hate cuz I like his content I'm just confused 😭😭😭 like I have yet to be bored of my experience in playing genshin because I love playing characters to max out friendship exp and make teams centered around them and usually play that for a pretty short while and sometimes even mix and match their teams a little. Its something that's really fun and keeps the game new for me while also getting to try different playstyles. I get that for him he's kinda burnt out from exploring and that playing like this just might not be his thing but at a certain point it really is just a matter of trying out new teams and ways to play your characters. Ig tbf he already does this himself with abyss testing and he might know how to play every team ever but the game gives u a lot of freedom to do different things so might as well test the waters. Also not trying to glaze genshin here either I definitely have problems with the game itself too lmao

If the solution to being bored is to spend resources to progress backward in power rather than forward then it's not a very good solution.

Emilie still deals similar to more sub DPS DMG than chiori, according to the current version of beta. she also has more flexible teams than chiori who is locked in geo construct pairing ...
That is true when you are min/maxing though, things are only worth investing in when they are better than the existing best option. A 40CV artifact piece is just as useless as a 0CV piece when all your pieces are over 45CV, by that same logic a "decent" character is just as useless as the worst character in the game when you already have several great characters for the same role.

Man it feels like he's hating for no reason. From what I've seen you don't need a dedicated mono pyro team to make her work, any pyro + kazuha/venti will essentially let you sustain burning on nearly every enemy. She doesn't snapshot so she really isn't depending on Bennett, I actually think one of her better teams is gonna be a burning + burgeon team with thoma as the single pyro unit.
Sure, but will that be a stronger option than the existing best teams? Because if it's not then she's pointless if your goal was to increase the overall power of your account, which I believe is the angle Zajef's evaluation is based on.

He expects the unit to not get cucked when they trigger Spread reactions. Emilie's multipliers fall by an enormous margin if she triggers Spread (Dendro+Electro), so even if you don't have an electro unit in your team, Emilie becomes effectively useless for 30 seconds if the opponent has an electro shield, or is an electro slime.
@@rttrrttrrttr You don't need to have only pyro units with Emilie, you can put a second dendro unit like Alhaitham or Tighnari, or an anemo unit for VV. Besides, pyro is good to break electro shields, is it not?
My biggest disappointment with Emilie is that she's just a generic, uninteresting damage dealer that effectively doesn't actually have any sort of synergy with Burning - instead Burning becomes a hard requirement for her and a massive limiting factor when building a team that doesn't ultimately do anything interesting. Even Nilou is better in that while she does restrict the team composition heavily, she also significantly changes the way you build the whole team by allowing otherwise undesirable combinations. With Emilie, the primary takeaway feels less like "she allows new competitive teams" and more like "she's garbage outside of her desired teams".
My Nilou Bloom team uses her, Barbara, DMC, and Nahida, with Barbara as the driver. I know Kokomi does almost everything Barbara does and better, but Kokomi is one of my least favorite characters in the entire cast, to the point where if I could "return" her, I would (long story).
@@Blizandrio I'm merely saying that her Burning requirements aren't actually a synergy of any kind and instead it's a generic team building restriction that doesn't provide anything meaningful for the team - it is just a necessity for her not to be borderline useless. The only similar case that I can think of is Chiori asking for a Geo construct, but that at least comes naturally with the characters that she likes anyways, meanwhile Emilie's problem is not just "you need to use a Pyro character that can do the Burning" but also "you can't do anything that would interfere with the Burning", which immediately throws a lot of potential team comps out the window. And as an extra inconvenience, she doesn't want Electro anywhere near her. And what you get for it is just personal damage, on a secondary DPS at that.
my main problem with emilie is that as a sub dps she doesn't really provide any support for other characters like most new sub dps characters do (furina, chiori), it would at least be nice if she had a passive which increases reaction damage dealt on enemies affected by burning or something, so right now i don't think she's that insane in her niche compared to other alternatives to justify pulling for a 5* character
New end game is coming and you will need more than Neuvillete and Hyperbloom teams to beat it. That’s more than enough justification to pull. on top of the fact she’s actually really good in her niche, something Zajeff doesn’t want to admit.
People are so scared of electro shields on enemies but like: - it's only her own dmg that gets decreased - the element application is still the same - she applies a lot of it - you don't wanna use your rotation on a shielded enemy anyways, you do your dps when their shield is down or else you're losing lots of the dmg anyways, regardless if it's emilie or someone else.
-yes, but her damage is actually significant, so you're losing on a good portion of the team's total dps -the lower amount of hits might slow it down a little, even if icd is the same -she doesn't -depends on the enemy and/or time you have left to clear, on the baptist you definitely want to start a rotation before taking down the shield for example
Well I for one really love her design and I like how we finally have a unit centered around Burning. Burning was the first and only Dendro reaction in the game at launch and now nearly four years in we can finally do something with it. For those reasons I'm excited. I'll definitely be pulling. Plus she's cute (again my opinion).
Emilie definitely feels like she was made with Natlan characters in mind. I can already see another Kokomi situation with people begging for a rerun at some point.
I've been using the team of (Venti/Kazuha)/Bennett/Nahida/Collei since Nahida dropped. Collei solely serves the purpose of emotional support (dendro resonance and maybe some energy particles here and there). Being able to fill that slot with any kind of synergistic unit is massive, though yeah, it's really disappointing that she is based on personal damage instead of enhancing the burn effect's AoE, giving heals from burning (the dmg reduction was also needed, but imo heals from it would also be appreciated and a whole other character for that purpose seems excessive), or straight up increasing EM or burning damage outright. Though Bennett is one of if not my favorite character, it seems that for the burning reaction to catch up with the rest of the game, we will have to see a new pyro character that ALSO focuses on this team, taking his slot.
Emilie's skill is niche but it does her job. My only caviet is it's 22 second cooldown and the thing doesn't follow you. Good luck trying to reposition it.
The duration is 22 seconds. The cooldown is 14 seconds, and you even get a second way to redeploy via burst, so you'd have zero issue repositioning it.
I understand Zajef's sentiment about Emilie's boring kit. I was originally on the side of pulling for her for my Wriothesley because the idea of a Dendro unit actually dealing damage in burning teams did interest me but do I really need a Dendro Chiori? I already have Chiori and her kit is the most boring non existent kit ever and I say this as someone who does actually use her a lot since I use Navia often and I already had a good husk set taken from Albedo. 😭

I don't understand... if apparently she's going to be pretty strong, with no major downsides and might feel good to play, what exactly is the problem? Why is her kit supposedly awful? I'd agree if you say that it's not interesting, it's really not when compared with Sethos, for instance, but uninteresting isn't the same thing as awful. The way I see it a kit is bad if it doesn't synergise with itself (like Albedo's, whose burst scales with atk and whose skill scales with def, and it never makes sense to build him for attack, so what's the point of his burst?) or if what it's trying to do is a bad idea to begin with (like, for example, Albedo's elevator: looking at his C4 and his demo it was probably intended to be used to do plunge attacks off of it... sorry I love Albedo but his kit is objectively awful). If neither of these is the case, why call her kit awful?

Her design is like Kaveh but for burning but since she's a 5* she'll probably deal dmg unlike Kaveh I love that hoyo makes characters to buff weaker reactions but the way they do it is kinda lame nilou doesn't work unless u have only hydro and dendro , chevrose is the same but with electro and pyro, navia doesn't improve crystalize and chiori doesn't need more than 1 construct and doesn't change constructs' flaws or even buff them

Hmm, couldn't Emilie work in an air fryer team (Emilie, Kazoo, Bennett, Nahida)? The largest downside to air fryer was the self damage and she drastically reduces that self damage. Edit; Oh and I actually do like her character design. It fits the region, her job and stands out enough. If we want to talk about Hoyo character designs that are let down, March's new design for HSR looks like she is doing a low budget Lafou themed cosplay. The red jacket is especially jarring.
I was hoping a burning-specialized character would do something different about it, kinda like how Nilou did with bloom, but it's basically just "more damage on burning enemies" and that's it. I felt a similar disappointment when I saw Navia's kit. Their damage and animations are nice, but I really hoped they'd change how the reaction worked. I feel like hoyo's afraid of making new mechanics in case players might find a way to exploit it and make it too OP. Kinda like how Venti basically trivialized almost everything in 1.x or how Bennett and snapshotting became an iconic duo and so they made new content not compatible with those.
When you watch Zajef you just have to read between the lines to figure out if they are actually good or not since he's an overly negative person. For example: His opinion on Chlorinde is she's a good unit. He also thinks Emilie is a strong unit. I think most people wouldn't know this if they just hear him say "Chlorinde gets carried by Fischl" or "Emilie is an awful character". Hes just a hyperbolic person.

i pulled venti for the venti/kazuha/nahida/bennett team zajef talked about ages ago and play it every abyss reset in floors 9 and 10, its so nice for all the waves of squishy mobs that spawn super far away from each other, so i dont think i ever need another burning unit lol

And in that comparison, XQ is indeed covering as much ground as no any other character ever could.

She doesn't have element restriction like Nilou/Chevreuse, but she deals -90% damage against Quickened enemies & her A1 passive (AoE Dendro damage) will be completely disabled for 30s. Electro Slime will be her worst enemy xD
Basically, she gets a damage increase and more dendro app in burning/ burgeon teams, but she gets a damage reduction with any sort of dendro and electro reaction. Unlike Chevreuse and Nilou that enables/ enhances their elemental reaction, Emilie just gets more damage from burning reactions.
I think that "boring" isn't about her gameplay exactly, which most characters share, aka "Q-E-swap" :D It's about her kit being "if someone burning - she does damage, if it's not - she does not". And there is nothing beside that. Fischl legit suited for tons of different teams, while emilie is just - "if it's not burning, you put a wrong character in your team". If they designed a new character based on "hey, lets made a character almost exactly like a previous one, but make them dependent on under-utilised reaction to bring it from the dead", i wouldn't deny that it's very "boring". Atleast navia have quite a unique gameplay, despite being brought out on "crystallize". But Emilie? She doesn't really bring anything at all. Other than protection from the catching yourself on fire while playing burning team, which was retarded mechanic in the first place, and needed to get rid entirely, and not by introducing 5* character.

I'm not saying that I agree with him that XQ is the most fun unit but there is a world's difference between XQ and Emilie, the number of teams he enables is staggering, not to mention the defensive utility makes it so content is less frustrating to deal with. I'd be surprised if I can fit Emilie in more than 2 teams, hell I'd be surprised if I can make her do something that enables a team rather than just exist as an off field damage bot.
XQ is a four star tho, plus his kit is actually well designed for a 1.0 unit, Emilie on the other hand is A FIVE STAR from VERSION 4.8, obviously people expected more of her and they're right to do so
I mean I've been feeling "bored" of characters after pulling them since forever. Even Neuv, and that's after the fact that Fontaine does have my most favorite units to use out of any region. It's just fatigue of the game being so old where it becomes "oh it's another new release, ok." . Don't even feel the same excitement for new region expansions anymore. I think the game needs more cinematics for creating hype and not snail-pacing the lore for the VERY END of the game.

Hoyo realized the lack of 5 star Fontaine units from the main cast and decided they need to artificially inflate the 5 star cast from that region instead of making more 4 stars. This resulted in some characters who were probably originally kit-made to be 4 stars but their rating to be changed and their stats increased. Sigewinne is absolutely the biggest victim of this practice as known how LIQUID SHART her kit is right now, and Emily is their final attempt at this practice before Natlan

@@None38389 if you are bored of playing something that would be the incentive to play something else in a game. Power creep by itself won't fix someone's problem of not playing different stuff. It'll just make it harder for people who did not invest vertically or who aren't getting the new units. Eventually it leads to more playstyles being unviable
This gotta be one of my biggest gripes with the guy and it's not even hate cuz I like his content I'm just confused 😭😭😭 like I have yet to be bored of my experience in playing genshin because I love playing characters to max out friendship exp and make teams centered around them and usually play that for a pretty short while and sometimes even mix and match their teams a little. Its something that's really fun and keeps the game new for me while also getting to try different playstyles. I get that for him he's kinda burnt out from exploring and that playing like this just might not be his thing but at a certain point it really is just a matter of trying out new teams and ways to play your characters. Ig tbf he already does this himself with abyss testing and he might know how to play every team ever but the game gives u a lot of freedom to do different things so might as well test the waters. Also not trying to glaze genshin here either I definitely have problems with the game itself too lmao

That is true when you are min/maxing though, things are only worth investing in when they are better than the existing best option. A 40CV artifact piece is just as useless as a 0CV piece when all your pieces are over 45CV, by that same logic a "decent" character is just as useless as the worst character in the game when you already have several great characters for the same role.

From what I've seen you don't need a dedicated mono pyro team to make her work, any pyro + kazuha/venti will essentially let you sustain burning on nearly every enemy.
She doesn't snapshot so she really isn't depending on Bennett, I actually think one of her better teams is gonna be a burning + burgeon team with thoma as the single pyro unit.
Sure, but will that be a stronger option than the existing best teams? Because if it's not then she's pointless if your goal was to increase the overall power of your account, which I believe is the angle Zajef's evaluation is based on.

He expects the unit to not get cucked when they trigger Spread reactions. Emilie's multipliers fall by an enormous margin if she triggers Spread (Dendro+Electro), so even if you don't have an electro unit in your team, Emilie becomes effectively useless for 30 seconds if the opponent has an electro shield, or is an electro slime.

My biggest disappointment with Emilie is that she's just a generic, uninteresting damage dealer that effectively doesn't actually have any sort of synergy with Burning - instead Burning becomes a hard requirement for her and a massive limiting factor when building a team that doesn't ultimately do anything interesting.
Even Nilou is better in that while she does restrict the team composition heavily, she also significantly changes the way you build the whole team by allowing otherwise undesirable combinations.
With Emilie, the primary takeaway feels less like "she allows new competitive teams" and more like "she's garbage outside of her desired teams".
My Nilou Bloom team uses her, Barbara, DMC, and Nahida, with Barbara as the driver. I know Kokomi does almost everything Barbara does and better, but Kokomi is one of my least favorite characters in the entire cast, to the point where if I could "return" her, I would (long story).
Her burning teams WILL be competitive what are you on?
@@Blizandrio I'm merely saying that her Burning requirements aren't actually a synergy of any kind and instead it's a generic team building restriction that doesn't provide anything meaningful for the team - it is just a necessity for her not to be borderline useless.
The only similar case that I can think of is Chiori asking for a Geo construct, but that at least comes naturally with the characters that she likes anyways, meanwhile Emilie's problem is not just "you need to use a Pyro character that can do the Burning" but also "you can't do anything that would interfere with the Burning", which immediately throws a lot of potential team comps out the window. And as an extra inconvenience, she doesn't want Electro anywhere near her.
And what you get for it is just personal damage, on a secondary DPS at that.
my main problem with emilie is that as a sub dps she doesn't really provide any support for other characters like most new sub dps characters do (furina, chiori), it would at least be nice if she had a passive which increases reaction damage dealt on enemies affected by burning or something, so right now i don't think she's that insane in her niche compared to other alternatives to justify pulling for a 5* character

New end game is coming and you will need more than Neuvillete and Hyperbloom teams to beat it. That’s more than enough justification to pull. on top of the fact she’s actually really good in her niche, something Zajeff doesn’t want to admit.

People are so scared of electro shields on enemies but like:
- it's only her own dmg that gets decreased
- the element application is still the same
- she applies a lot of it
- you don't wanna use your rotation on a shielded enemy anyways, you do your dps when their shield is down or else you're losing lots of the dmg anyways, regardless if it's emilie or someone else.
-yes, but her damage is actually significant, so you're losing on a good portion of the team's total dps
-the lower amount of hits might slow it down a little, even if icd is the same
-she doesn't
-depends on the enemy and/or time you have left to clear, on the baptist you definitely want to start a rotation before taking down the shield for example

Well I for one really love her design and I like how we finally have a unit centered around Burning. Burning was the first and only Dendro reaction in the game at launch and now nearly four years in we can finally do something with it. For those reasons I'm excited. I'll definitely be pulling. Plus she's cute (again my opinion).
Emilie definitely feels like she was made with Natlan characters in mind. I can already see another Kokomi situation with people begging for a rerun at some point.

I've been using the team of (Venti/Kazuha)/Bennett/Nahida/Collei since Nahida dropped. Collei solely serves the purpose of emotional support (dendro resonance and maybe some energy particles here and there). Being able to fill that slot with any kind of synergistic unit is massive, though yeah, it's really disappointing that she is based on personal damage instead of enhancing the burn effect's AoE, giving heals from burning (the dmg reduction was also needed, but imo heals from it would also be appreciated and a whole other character for that purpose seems excessive), or straight up increasing EM or burning damage outright.
Though Bennett is one of if not my favorite character, it seems that for the burning reaction to catch up with the rest of the game, we will have to see a new pyro character that ALSO focuses on this team, taking his slot.

Emilie's skill is niche but it does her job. My only caviet is it's 22 second cooldown and the thing doesn't follow you. Good luck trying to reposition it.
The duration is 22 seconds. The cooldown is 14 seconds, and you even get a second way to redeploy via burst, so you'd have zero issue repositioning it.
I understand Zajef's sentiment about Emilie's boring kit. I was originally on the side of pulling for her for my Wriothesley because the idea of a Dendro unit actually dealing damage in burning teams did interest me but do I really need a Dendro Chiori? I already have Chiori and her kit is the most boring non existent kit ever and I say this as someone who does actually use her a lot since I use Navia often and I already had a good husk set taken from Albedo. 😭

I don't understand... if apparently she's going to be pretty strong, with no major downsides and might feel good to play, what exactly is the problem? Why is her kit supposedly awful? I'd agree if you say that it's not interesting, it's really not when compared with Sethos, for instance, but uninteresting isn't the same thing as awful.
The way I see it a kit is bad if it doesn't synergise with itself (like Albedo's, whose burst scales with atk and whose skill scales with def, and it never makes sense to build him for attack, so what's the point of his burst?) or if what it's trying to do is a bad idea to begin with (like, for example, Albedo's elevator: looking at his C4 and his demo it was probably intended to be used to do plunge attacks off of it... sorry I love Albedo but his kit is objectively awful). If neither of these is the case, why call her kit awful?

Hmm, couldn't Emilie work in an air fryer team (Emilie, Kazoo, Bennett, Nahida)? The largest downside to air fryer was the self damage and she drastically reduces that self damage. Edit; Oh and I actually do like her character design. It fits the region, her job and stands out enough. If we want to talk about Hoyo character designs that are let down, March's new design for HSR looks like she is doing a low budget Lafou themed cosplay. The red jacket is especially jarring.
I was hoping a burning-specialized character would do something different about it, kinda like how Nilou did with bloom, but it's basically just "more damage on burning enemies" and that's it. I felt a similar disappointment when I saw Navia's kit. Their damage and animations are nice, but I really hoped they'd change how the reaction worked.
I feel like hoyo's afraid of making new mechanics in case players might find a way to exploit it and make it too OP. Kinda like how Venti basically trivialized almost everything in 1.x or how Bennett and snapshotting became an iconic duo and so they made new content not compatible with those.

I don't think i ever heard him saying that xingqiu is the "most fun". It was always remarks about his powerlevel and universality, which generally make him compete for the place of "strongest".

XQ is universally useful, and that's why it feels good to have it in your team, it's not about "E-Q-swap" gameplay (which is, lets be real, a majority of characters). And in that comparison, XQ is indeed covering as much ground as no any other character ever could.

She's not limited to Pyro and Dendro, but she can't be played in any quicken/HyperBloom related teams
She doesn't have element restriction like Nilou/Chevreuse, but she deals -90% damage against Quickened enemies & her A1 passive (AoE Dendro damage) will be completely disabled for 30s.
Electro Slime will be her worst enemy xD
Basically, she gets a damage increase and more dendro app in burning/ burgeon teams, but she gets a damage reduction with any sort of dendro and electro reaction. Unlike Chevreuse and Nilou that enables/ enhances their elemental reaction, Emilie just gets more damage from burning reactions.
If she triggers spread, her damage is reduced by 85% or something like that
If Zaj hates the kit she's gonna be decent at least

I love how Zajef is ALWAYS disappointed nowadays. “She’s boring to play” when she litterally has the same gameplay Fischl has.
I think that "boring" isn't about her gameplay exactly, which most characters share, aka "Q-E-swap" :D
It's about her kit being "if someone burning - she does damage, if it's not - she does not". And there is nothing beside that. Fischl legit suited for tons of different teams, while emilie is just - "if it's not burning, you put a wrong character in your team".
If they designed a new character based on "hey, lets made a character almost exactly like a previous one, but make them dependent on under-utilised reaction to bring it from the dead", i wouldn't deny that it's very "boring". Atleast navia have quite a unique gameplay, despite being brought out on "crystallize". But Emilie? She doesn't really bring anything at all. Other than protection from the catching yourself on fire while playing burning team, which was retarded mechanic in the first place, and needed to get rid entirely, and not by introducing 5* character.

This is a clueless take. The only thing Nahida has over Emilie in her current iteration is an EM buff for burnmelt.
