Worth noting that buying Sawyer products supports a pretty amazing humanitarian mission. Those guys donate substantial portions of the profits to providing free water filter systems in 3rd world nations where folks have no access to clean water.
If I’m not mistaken it’s 1 for 1 as in you buy one filter they give one filter which is awesome I never feel guilty about buying their stuff even if I intend to let it sit on a shelf or in a bag hopefully forever
What about free water filter systems for our homeless veterans? Same ratio or nah??
I rock with sawyer products pretty heavily because of their mission. I align with what they're doing around the world and bringing clean water to communities that don't have a choice.
Very cool to have some long term reviews of what works by people who have more time to test things than i do. Not just these initial impression "reviews" where a product might as well break after 10 uses.
Or even worse, box openings
Wow you literally figured out how to connect the sawyer squeeze to the Hydrapak bags LOL this is awesome dude. Thank you
Can you list the parts needed to make the hose that attaches the dirty water bag to the filter. I bought all the items from your last water video but like the idea of a longer hose to connect rather than connecting it all together as one unit like your last video.
Great video! One thing I have done and recommend is tying paracord around the sawyer or other filter to wear around your neck under warming layers during winter months. I can have temps below freezing 6 months out of the year and this helps keep the filter serviceable. As you know, once the filter freezes it can be compromised. Again, that's where redundancy is a good thing. Keep up the great content.
In the days of westward expansion of the US, pioneers would put silver dollars in their water and milk barrels to extend the shelf life during their travels. Silver is a natural germ killer. I put a silver coin in my coolers and water storage containers while out camping, etc. It works. It's nice to not get that funky smell.
Great water filtration / purification kit and system PA!
FYI: Grayl also filters viruses.
Steripen UV systems are also a viable option.
Quickly becoming my favorite channel. Lots of great information.
They don't call it truth island for nothing. Thanks for putting together a smart kit and a video resource to point people to.
Awesome breakdown. The brew bag is a much better alternative to the coffee filters as a prefilter in the Katydyn. Going to pick up two of those for sure. A lot of great tweaks and adjustments here.
What is the hose and cinch you use off the Katydyn and QD at 6:42? Is that one of the included Sawyer hoses that comes with the Squeeze and you added that cinch onto it?
Also, any tips for getting the hose prefilters to fit inside the sawyer filter? With the Sawyer O-ring and the black rubber around the hose pre-filter, it takes up most of the thread space and I find I lose the ability to attach things to it so I forego it most of the time.
Another great video!
I'm so glad I found your channel. Thanks for the info👍
I hope your channel continues to grow
I love this channel. You truly do a fantastic job. Keep up the top notch quality videos.
Stay happy healthy and fluid
Always trust an airman's advice. They're in the air force for a reason 😆
Very helpful and useful details. Thanks!
I use a similar setup, but with a few differences: MSR Guardian Gravity Purifier with 10L dirty bag, into (2) MSR 4L dromedary bags (sealed system). I also have a Platypus Carbon element I can add in-line, as well as (2) sawyers as back ups. I have the H2Go as well, and Cana decon kits on hand. The Guardian/Sawyer/H2Go do a great job removing all organic threats, while the carbon in the Guardian and Platypus canister helps with metals and chemicals. Canteen cup boiling with a multi fuel stove is also there in an emergency
Your videos are very helpful. Much appreciated
Sawer is my go to water filter, they donate filters all across Africa and if it’s good enough for Africa it’s good enough for me 😁👍
Note: Your not backpacking a system designed to remove chemicals from the water so choose your water sources wisely 👍
This thing needs to run for the next hundred years.
Great content as usual but add an affiliate link for the H2Go Global, I don't see it in your links. Thanks!
Hey, first of all I really appreciate your videos, no clickbait and just really good and useful information. I just have one question, why do you have the sawyer squeeze and the katadyn befree? Is it just for backup if one fails or are there any other advantages? Maybe I just missed something in the video. Thanks a lot for your time.
Yes, it's for backup, and both filters use different adapters, so even if an adapter fails, I'm still able to filter water.
Nice information, thanks!
Awesome content great info thank you for sharing.
Damn that mosquito at 12:44 was not letting go...
Great kit
Cool info
Good information
Good stuff
That's a solid system, mate. I'm thinking of devising a Layer1 solution to permanently have in my sheen pocket: something like 2 condoms, 2 rubber bands, 2 coke bottlenecks, a Sawyer-mini and 10 purification tablets. Alternative super-lightweight system is probably the filter sock made of parachute nylon that Greencraft youtuber has DIYed.
For a larger Layer3 system, I'm thinking 2L HydraPak with BeFree filter + boiling.
Which purification tablets are the best? I've heard that AquaMira is better than Aquatabs and Portable Aqua.
Also, which filter could also filter out some of the toxins, heavy metals and other chemicals?
Very useful information
Really interested in that 6L katadyn bag with plug in filter. Gonna pick one up. Thanks.
Wow
@preparedairman What would you choose for a chest rig a titanium gi style canteen or a Nalgene oasis and why
Great video! I saw that you changed your backpack, it's a Hyperlite right, the 3400 Southwest? Do you like it? how much weight do you carry? Thanks
i used to run sawyer mini with a platypus carbon filter,
but have since switched to grayl..
Super fast and it filters / purifies a lot..
what are your thoughts, thanks
So I’ve been thinking for a few days, how does the p&g water coagulator pill work in your system? Because if you used it in the katadyn dirty bag, it’d clog the entire outlet up. I wish katadyn had a sediment tail like the puribag for that exact reason
What do you think about Aquamira Frontier Max with worldwide cartridge?I know it's only 120 gallons but I'd like to know your opinion
How go you stow the Lifewater bottles on your kit?
Here is how I carry my primary bottle. The other two are on the sides of my my pack as I hike.

Do the Hydrapak filter adapters no longer come in the red or blue? I thought that was a brilliant idea to keep them separate but do not see them like that anywhere. What is the story on that? Thanks
They are not sold that way, I specifically place blue or red tape on them to self identify them.
@@PreparedAirman I gotcha. Thanks for the response
3:40 the large “brew bag” is 250 microns, have you tried 125m or 75m - are those too fine and get blocked up too much? Just curious.
250 is what I had on hand at the time. Yes, you could go smaller and it would probably work better.
Did you colour code the red and blue quick disconnects yourself or can you buy them like that?
I did it myself with colored duct tape. It's held up very well.
@@PreparedAirman thank you I wasn’t sure if it was a DIY or manufactured option. Are the befree and sawyer 0.1 micron filters? Looking to get a filter for hiking that I can expand into a system if needed and not sure where to start
Pro tip: assemble and sell these kits to us from small emergency kits to the full water kit shown here. With two kids and others like me may not have the time to source all of the parts.
I see you still haven't yet tried out Seychelle water filtration and bottles. Tsk, tsk. You have no idea what you're missing... you don't have the ability to filter water containing radiation. That will be a huge problem in the near future. Seychelle already solved this problem for you. In fact, you will be able to simplify your water kit just using Seychelle stuff.
I don't see how it would simplify things. The filters are only rated to 150 gal at $35 a piece. My family of 4 would burn though one every 19 days at a minimum. Plus, it operates with pressure, so if the bottle it's self fails, I'm screwd. I see the radiological benefits but it has more negatives the positives.
