Jijimon VS Phoenixmon!! | Digimon Card Game: BT-11 Dimensional Phase Outbreak (ROUND 2)

  • This is Round 2 of the Dimensional Phase Outbreak, a tournament featuring 12 decks from the 11th main booster of the Digimon Card Game: Dimensional Phase. The next two decks to clash are Jijimon and Phoenixmon, both being representatives from Digimon World Re: Digitize. The Green/Black Jijimon deck focuses on swarming Tamers and using them as a foundation to swarm Digimon by playing bodies for free or evolving for cheap. Although it can be seen as numbers-based aggro, it also has access to a slew of control abilities such as Green's signature suspend. On the other hand, the Red Phoenixmon deck is also reliant on Tamers to strengthen the cycle of its [On Delete] effects which allow them to maintain consistent board presence with free bodies while wearing down the opponent's field with surprise Raid attacks. In this showdown between functionally similar decks, who will outlast the other?
    Who am I?

    Nice back and forth match. It's good to see Tyrannomon support since it always feels like it's walking in the shadow of Greymon and I really like the "reincarnation" thematic on Phoenixmon cards.

    These two decks are really similar. While the way it is achieved is different (evolving vs being deleted/doing damage), the goal is to swarm Tamers, produce free bodies and maintain board presence to take down the opponent while controlling their field (suspend vs raid). As such, I think the tempo difference is really brought to the forefront in this matchup with evolving being a core game mechanic that is naturally fulfilled versus self-deletion which requires more effort. And I don't think Phoenixmon's first effect sufficiently mitigates this tempo difference because attacking has its risks - it can be explosive once your board is setup, but it doesn't necessarily help to accelerate your board to that state. So overall, Phoenix/Mars feels a bit janky to me now, being slow on setup relative to the game's current pace while requiring specific but limited combo pieces to burst once setup. I guess it's to be expected since the Marsmon line synergises with but does not necessarily contribute to setup/the engine, so another Bird/Avian line would be nice, especially a Lv.5 that can play free bodies. On the other hand, Jijimon feels more complete, with many tools to help you set up and meet your win condition while staving off the opponent - a balanced deck that is fun to pilot. It might feel a bit luck-based, but Tortomon helps tremendously with that and terrible rolls (basically 0 hits) are rare, as even just 1 additional Lv.3 on the field adds a lot to your game plan, being usable for both offence (Rush) or defence (Blocker, or evolving into MetalTyranno to stun).
    NEXT BATTLE: ULFORCEVEEDRAMON (RINA) VS MASTEMON (MIREI)

    Ah, an excellent showing by Akiho but such a shame she didn't make it to the next round.
    Still, glad both she and Taiga got to show off both of their deck's ace Megas. Very cinematic, a match to be proud off.
    It looks like Taiga's deck is one that can really keep up the momentum once it gets it; but I suppose getting their while against stronger decks is the problem. Akiho meanwhile is based on her comeback potential, and has both offensive (Masmon line) and defensive (Phenoximon line) effects to work around. I think her main problem is just how well those lines mix; as while Piyomon's line can give comeback effects to Marsmon, the Bearmon line doesn't do much to a Phoenixmon. That fact Marsmon only shifts to Unsuspended Digimon and doesn't have Piercing may also be an issue, as that means it doesn't have much use for its high DP if the main threat is suspended

    • @rustmarrow
      @rustmarrow  Год назад

      Precisely. Phoenix supports Mars. Mars helps to fight, but doesnt necessarily help support Phoenix back. So the chain of synergy is often broken, esp when you're forced to go into Mars just to survive

      @@rustmarrow Yeah, as respectable as an attempt at putting the two decks together is; they'd probably work best apart and need their own individual support to do it. Marsmon/Raid.dek has a respectable start in terms of Deimon cards, but needs its own Tamer & Option cards to support the mechanic. And Phoenixmon needs more inherited [On Deletion] effects as well as a cheaper way to play birds and beasts with effects for Akiho.

I was looking forward to seeing both of these decks in actino and they appear to be pretty fun casual, budget decks (minus the Tais for Akiho but you can switch that for any good Tamer, really, like Tai and Kari for more memory). • @rustmarrow
      @rustmarrow  Год назад +2

      I guess the key question would be whether you want to evolve to Lv.6 (Rust/Dinorex) or not LOL. If you're not hard on using the Megas, I stand by a Hiro/Gammamon engine for low-level Tyranno action centered around MasterTyrannomon (you can see my vid on it). The new Taiga, Tyrannomon and Buster Dive are nice new additions for bolstering its ranks. You can even add the new MetalTyranno for emergency situations.
      But if you'd like to go Mega, I think you can just take the Jijimon base and modify it to include more Tyranno? The new MetalTyranno and RustTyranno make for a decent game ender, so you can focus on that. And with how cheap Rust can become, you could take advantage of that will Lv.7 plays on top

    So I have no way of knowing what was in Phoenixmon's hand, but I assume you must have bricked with getting red Tamers. Cuz tbh, I've seen my friend playtest that deck extensively, and he always prioritized using Phoenixmon's effect on the Garuda and Birdra inherits to set up Tamers. This would've set up future turns for Marsmon way better as well as allow Phoenixmon's effect to bring out bigger bodies sooner.
    Especially when you can bring out a GrapLeomon from Phoenixmon's effect, give it Rush with Rindo, and immediately go into Marsmon for 2 really big bodies.
    I know this sounds like backseating and I apologize, but just wanted to give my observations after you said that Phoenixmon feels more slow and jank than Jijimon, which I had the opposite experience so far.

    • @rustmarrow
      @rustmarrow  Год назад

      No need to apologise man, thank you for sharing your thoughts and I appreciate the discussion!
      Yea I didnt have as many Red Tamers in my hand as I would have liked, so I chose the free body to do chip dmg while securing another trigger of Phoenixmons effect the next turn (with Ninjamon in source, was expecting 1 of the Lv.3s to be taken).
      I agree that for the most part, Phoenix should prioritise Tamer setup early game but I also disagree that this should always be the case. Matchup and game state need to be considered as well. Like in this match where the deck mid-rolled, I believe the free body was the better play in terms of resource efficiency - and if not for Agumon surviving suspended upon checking Taiga, Phoenix would have most likely taken the game with the sacrificial play into Mars. Confirmed this by replaying the same match multiple times with different strategies (I do this for all my matches to try and minimise misplays). If Phoenix had gone for Tamer setup initially, Jijimon would have dominated the match even more.
      I'm not too sure about the impression that Phoenix is less jank/slow compared to Jiji though. Perhaps it's the decklists used? After all, Jiji can easily secure at least 2 free Tamers evolving up and can still swarm on the same turn, while Phoenix only starts producing free Tamers at Lv.6, and only once per turn if youre keeping it alive, such that you have to choose between Tamer or swarm. Also, Jiji swarms from topdeck so you don't need to worry about drawing into the right pieces, while Phoenix swarms from hand so you can exhaust your resources. Perhaps you saw a lot of low-rolls on Jiji, or were wowed by high-rolls on Phoenix? Cos Phoenix's output on a good hand and Security can be more insane than what Jiji can do.
      That's just my two cents tho! I don't claim to be an expert/pro, just someone who enjoys playing the game and testing new cards haha. But yaknow, perhaps we're both right? It's usually better to go for Tamer setup on Phoenix's effect but maybe for some situations like this match, the free body can come in more clutch

    • @smolcomfy2462
      @smolcomfy2462 Год назад

      @@rustmarrow The main reason the free body is not the best idea imho is that it leaves you a really weak body that is a prime target for Metal and RustTyranno's effects. Whereas playing the tamers early on allows you to bring out even bigger bodies when Phoenixmon inevitably dies.
      I know you were kinda bricking on Tamers, but the main idea should've been to using Phoenixmon's effect the first time to bring out one tamer, so when it inevitably dies the next turn to Jiji or RustTyranno, you can play 1 or 2 more tamers to then bring out at minimum a GrapLeo or Garudamon to set up for Marsmon next turn.
      And if one of those Tamers is at least a Hiro, Marsmon will be able to swing over both RustTyranno and Jiji with Raid, trashing one Security if GrapLeo was played, unsuspending and gaining 3 memory, and then using Raid again to minimize the opponent's board.
      I guess it's just playstyle differences and not being fully aware of what the deck is capable of since I know you have to manage so many decks for these videos.
      I do look forward to the rest of the tournament, however! 👍

    • @rustmarrow
      @rustmarrow  Год назад

      @Smol Comfy Thanks for your thoughts again! Like I said tho, I think I know what the deck is capable of and usually play it as you describe. However, like I mentioned, I did test out that route afterwards and they would have lost harder in this match if they went for 1st Tamer on Phoenix. The points you made were general observations, and not fully applicable to that current board state I feel.
      For example, opponent was gonna start the turn with 3 Memory on 1 Ken with Panjyamon and Betamon. Going to Metal from Beta means they wouldnt be able to attack post-suspend. They couldnt go into Rust with 1 Tamer. If they go into Jiji, it is at 11k unless they luck into Taiga. And if they lucked into Taiga, I could still meet the minimum of 2 Tamers for GrapLeo with Birdra and Garuda's inheritables. So your 'being a prime target for Metal/Rust' or 'being able to bring out bigger bodies when Phoenix dies' doesn't really apply here, right?
      Just because your opponent uses suspend/battle tactics, doesnt mean you should completely avoid small bodies. It should be a turn by turn consideration. And in that turn, I don't think there was a reason to be afraid as the threats you mentioned were not looming. So I agree with your points from a general play perspective, but I think this specific situation called for a different answer to maximise the deck's chances of winning. Hope this explains my thoughts a bit better!

    • @GiftOfKnowledge-np9vg
      @GiftOfKnowledge-np9vg Год назад

      Well I suppose it's because if the opponent could only go for Security next turn, and didn't have lethal anyway, it made more sense to go for Tyrannomon to trigger GrapLeomon's security trashing effect to get lethal next turn.
      'Sides, depending on the deck it is sometimes better to get rid of mid-level Digimon over high level Digimon so you're opponent is less able to go into another high level Digimon with a When Digivolving effect. In this case, say Akiho decided a RustTyrannomon with no way to use its effect was less of a threat than a potential MetalTyrannomon. (Which was used anyway, but at least she got more memory out of it.)

    • @rustmarrow
      @rustmarrow  Год назад

      @Lupinranger Joker Exactly as GiftOfKnowledge said, RustTyranno was far from the biggest threat in that situation. A 14k vanilla body is meaningless if you have no attackable Digimon and still have Security remaining. If the unsuspended Tyranno survived, it could easily go into another Lv5 and Rust again for game. After all, we all saw how Mame rigged topdeck to prep for the next turn.
      And for further consideration, if Mars went for Rust, Taiga would still have 1 Security while starting the next turn with 6 Memory. So: (1) Phoenix/Mars would likely have no more chance for game. (2) 6 Memory enables Taiga to perform a hard play Lv.3 -> Buster Dive for game. Hope this answers your question!

      I think Ninja works really well. With Ken/Mimi on the field to start at 3, you can hard play any Taiga for a free Flower Cannon - stop a Blocker for game, enable Rust, or just control the opponents numbers
