Lennon's Now & Then demo is better than the Beatles' 2023 version. The best part "I don't want to lose you" was completely scrapped. Sometimes these Lennon demos are better than the studio versions. Good Morning Good Morning demo in 1967 was similar to this.

@@anthonyrusso7120 I don't know why, there can be a lot of speculation. The most obvious answer is that Paul didn't recognize it was the best part of the song like I do! I've seen in other RUclips comments that people speculate it had to do with the line "I don't want to lose you, lose you or abuse you" that the line about abuse can upset people today of a certain ilk in the post "me too/cancel culture" era, that was one theory someone put forth. I notice that John didn't finish the lyrics for that section, but I came up with my version "If you have to go away.... If you have to go [My end line: I won't force you to stay!"
@@GoatHoovesInSpats That's a nice completing line. Since some mixes have added that part back in unofficially but rather smoothly, I'd be genuinely curious to hear that full part sung by a circa 1977 Paul AI.
Someone needs to add AI to this to clean up the recording! I would LOVE to hear a studio quality version of this!

john was very much involved in the queer NYC arts scene, judging by demos like this one he clearly wanted to incorporate more of that influence in his work….. forever a tragedy he didnt get to put it out there :’)

This tune has lots of Broadway flourishes to me...very New York circa 70s...these demos are just perfect the way they are...that spare arrangement sells it...John could of released these songs in 76 and beat Bowie and Gabriel at progressive rock singer songwriter genre...hell, get Ezrin or Rundgren to spruce it up 😅 for sale

Lennon was an average player, at best, so yeah it could seem to some as though it's banging and not playing, per se. Paul handled a lot of the keyboards during the Beatles.
