Using Ricky’s example, if i said hey salvador dali did it first but it inspired me to try to paint a melting clock by the water. Someone doing the trick prior doesn’t somehow lower the difficulty of me attempting it. P.s. john andy and ricky should join forces and make a video just being super nice to people

They are just stoked on the new trick they hit, and you’re stoked for them too because it’s awesome, but still kinda takes the wind out of your sails. I see lots of people ragging on Andy, and I’m like!?? he handled it exactly like he should have. It would have been weird to release HIS clip and say… “well ACTUALLY… I did it first.” without talking to Ricky or just never release his clip… or release it and not say anything when everyone says “yeah, Ricky already did it first”. So they made the best of an awkward situation and explained bit of the pro-skating video parts etiquete and WHY it’s an awkward situation.

    Handled and reconciled beautifully by both of you... two legendary skaters and genuinely nice guys. I hope this doesn't ruin your friendship... Yeah, the same in art, music, any creative pursuit - the risk of holding off till you perfect something might mean someone else jumps in first. I don't think there's any solution. If you tell people what's up your sleeve, it will spoil your surprise and others might steal your idea. I totally understand why it can be frustrating but it is what it is and people should never get mad about it. It happens with music all of the time. Say your band incorporates a very unique instrument or something that nobody else has, or incorporate it in a WAY that nobody else does... but you take too long to put it out. Then one day you're introduced to a new band just to find out that they're using the same instrument in the same way just by coincidence. Yeah, it sucks, but even if your band did it first, the public will always see it differently. I guess the only way to make sure that you can make sure to protect your music or skate tricks is to put out short teaser clips of your music, and post photos or very short videos of part of a big trick online. I'm glad Andy didn't get mad at you because it would have been very off-putting if he had. It's just one of those unfortunate situations and I'm glad he understood that you really didn't do anything wrong.

    As a new skateboarder this is quite interesting because with soooo many incredible skateboarders in the world, how can people really be sure what's a nbd on a spot. I guess it really comes down to gambling until you're ready to post your part with the nbd's 😂 and pray that it hasn't been posted on IG.

    Never heard of sk8rs getting upset about this. Started sk8 in 86. That BS did not exist. We are always happy to see others do a rad trick. The thing we do is just add your own twist/ style to the trick. No two tricks are the same. End

      It’s existed sense the early 90s, the first flip trick down a rail and the first switch grind down a rail were done SPECIFICALLY because of the ABD rule.
      The confusion now is because everyone is trying to compare themselves to pro skaters, if you aren’t pro sit down and shut up, nobody cares if you do a ABD ( except Andy but he’s literally stupid )

      With social media everyone gets buthurt if they arent "uNiqUe" these days, no one really cares about it but dbags. If its cool, post the trick who cares if someones done it before.. If you care so much, than never do a kickflip again, cause guess what, its ALREADY BEEN DONE!!!

    • @jayskate6631
      @jayskate6631 4 месяца назад

      @@VashStarwind this rule has existed sense the early 90s, it’s just People like the helmet wearer and you who grew up on social media don’t understand the rule which is why it’s getting a bad rep after being considered a positive for the first 35 years of street skating.
      For the helmet wearer he doesn’t understand that it ONLY applies to pro skaters. Most pros understand that if RUclipsrs are stealing their NBDs then they need to step it up instead of crying. Terrible use of the rule and the helmet wearer should be ashamed.
      The helmet wearer is actually a prime example what happens when skaters don’t “ gate keep “ and let anyone enter the door, they start ruining stuff and with enough of them ruining things one by one skateboarding would die.
      For you, you don’t understand that the ABD rule only counts for that specific spot, just because someone kickflipped el Toro doesn’t mean no one else can kickflip anymore 😂, this type of stupidly doesn’t speak negatively on the rule but about the people discrediting the rule.

      @@gunhound45 I just think Andy looks really really bad in this situation and any other name would likely get my comment deleted 😂.
      I also don’t like how helmets are promoted, I’ve noticed a real trend at my local where the guys with helmets ALWAYS get bodied on the 4 set hand rail because they aren’t ready to skate it yet they seriously think a helmet is going to stop them from breaking their wrists or something 😂😂
      The guys without helmets who I’ve seen progress to do the rail didn’t even TRY the trick until they were so prepared they did it first or second try.
