Hi Afrik Thank you so much for posting your story! I realise you posted this a while ago but someone in my family has been on Aripiprazole for like 20 years!! The system definitely failed them. They were on 15mg for a long time. Dropped to 10mg only in Nov 2019 and then 5mg since March 2020 and pretty much stopped cold turkey in April 2020. They're experiencing withdrawal like depressive moments and had a few manic moments and psychosis but it's not as bad now in July 2020 as back in April. Having been on them for around 20years I'm so worried they will suffer some kind of permanent damage! And seeing a comment that it takes half the time you were on it to get better, are they expecting to feel normal again in 10years??? Sorry for all the questions but it's just that for so long we as a family have been pushing for the person to stay on the meds bc that's what we believed was right and it was just how life was. But now the person refuses to take it and I've been doing loads of research and feel soooo bad having seen what this medication actually does. The persons story is similar to yours in that they have experienced A LOT of trauma in life and is also quite a sensitive person so I'm so grateful to find your video.
Medication and withdrawal can cause akathisia which you describe and other kinds of tardive syndrome. It’s like when you taper off your system becomes extremely sensitive. If possible (if no adverse reactions or terrible side effect), people need to taper slowly to allow the brain to adjust. Some recommend %10 every week or 2.
My consultant put me on 10mg Aripiprazole for bi-polar and it worked great on my mood however i started waking up gasping for air at night as if my airways had swollen up so i stopped and went cold turkey. OMG for about 2 months I dropped straight down into the worst depression ever and didnt think id ever come out of it. I had zero motivation to do anything and so tired all the time. It was probably stupid of me to do it but hey ho. I was just starting to feel a bit better than rock bottom but then i realized that I had been taking Aripiprazole at night so i thought that if i took it in the morning maybe my airways wouldnt swell up. My consultant agreed and so ive been back on it for 5 days now and its working already. I just dont want to think about coming off it again! But then I dont want to be on it all my life either..
Words of advice get the freak off it. Look at the detrimental side effects it can cause plus your two times is more likely to die of premature death, and it shrinks your brain volume.
I'm on aripiprazole also. I have gained en enormous amount of weight, and the restlessness is unbearable. I have been on this for several years. But every time my dosage is upped,I get worse. I'm also suffering from suicidal ideation so now also. I know this is going to be tough, and I thank you for your blog. I am going to stop drug no matter. But i will be very careful. Take care x
This video was made 3 years ago , but it may help to know that magnesium and vitamin C (ascorbic acid ) can help with anxiety and depression . it’ll take about 3 months of taking it for you to start seeing results.
For what Ive learned it can take half the time you have been taking medicine to adjust back to normal again. I think it can give you an anxiety as well to read those stories where people tell you it wont get better ever again. Sometimes it takes a lot of time and I know that from my expierence as well but your mind can add a lot to the problems you have as well. I certainly believe that when you are sensitive as you are your body and mind can become in a lot of troubles because of medicine. I got dystonia out of ritalin and it took me a really long time to accept it but the way I see it: everything you will tell yourself and every fear can create and keep a reality which you can only fight by not giving up hope, keep believing and telling yourself. Because if youre telling your mind it is going to be okay, one day it has heard the thought do many times it will listen. Furthermore in my opinion praying helps. It is just a single side note but if it wont it doesnt matter as well because it wont harm either. I am not here to tell you what you must believe or do but I hope you wont allow yourself giving up. Time is going to offer you some solutions. Maybe slowly. I think you are really brave sharing this to people and I wish you the best.
its half life is very long abilify so even if you take the medication for a few days its still in your system for weeks and still having an effect this is the thing most doctors/psychiatrist won't tell you or make you aware of when prescribing such meds to people and its so wrong because even if people feel bad on the meds they can still feel bad afterwards despite not taking them because of the half life of the drugs , i hope everyone on here is living happy and healthier lives without these side effects
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia but I don’t think I have it. I have taken a lot of psychedelics and was having trouble relating to people so I was prescribed Abilify & I absolutely hated every part of it and I feel as though I will never get better, very scary sometimes I feel as though the only way to get better is to do psychedelics again even though they’re illegal. I strongly discourage anyone in my position from taking Abilify because it will mute your brain. Yes family member got off it with prayers alot of people don't pray
Because if youre telling your mind it is going to be okay, one day it has heard the thought so many times it will listen.
Hi I realise you posted this a while year ago but I wanted to ask about you mentioning it takes half the time you're on it to get better. Someone in my family has been on Aripiprazole for like 20 years!!
And seeing your comment are they expecting to feel normal again in 10years???
