Posting a negative comment to this is like saying "I have no idea what I'm talking about!" The level of control, subtlety, and independence here is astounding.
i can't believe the negative comments on this page . This solo blows my mind . Its super musical , super dynamic , it has a beginning middle and end . The subdividing is musical and incredibly accurate . His touch is amazing . This is one of the best drum solos i`ve ever seen / heard .
King sweetly...Don't waste your time trying to explain something to these young unoriginal no-soul drummers. They Know fuck all about this instrument & what it takes to be a true musician not just a drummer!!!
I dont begrudge people`s taste . Especially if they are young . I used to think Mike Portnoy was untouchable on the drums when i was 11 years old . On the other hand if all you dig are gospel chops then i guess i can see how you won't like this .
Cliff's a monster. Used to hang out and listen to him practice at San Diego State back around 95. I think he was hittin with Michel Camilo back then. Super dedicated! He'd sit on a metal seat and just kill it on some purecussion or rims drums. This clip just scratches the surface, but shows his attention to detail.
Me and a few high school drumline buddies used to drive down to SDSU to watch Cliff play with the A-jazz band. This was around 89-91, before he was playing with Camillo. This dude was a monster 30 years ago. Sadly, his talent didnt wear off on me. Looking back, I'm now thinking my drum progress has evolved so slowly due to never practicing. Ain't that a bitch!
I saw Cliff back in 1985 in San Francisco live with M. Camilo. This dude was about 19 year old or so.He was so smoking...unbelievable musical at this age!
How can there be any negative comments? This is life incredible creativity. The stuff great drumming is made of. Eye opening for me cause I do this but cliff is on another planet with his ideas and chops
This guy flies under the radar, he took over the drum seat for Weckl when he left Camilo for Chick Corea electric Band. I wonder what would have been if Cliff played with Chick. Believe it or not Cliff is better than Weckl, he just never got the exposure.
You can tell it's a very good metronome as it was aligned perfectly with Cliff.

This guys got a set of hands and internal clock and feel to die for!
Very inspiring, Cliff! I've been a fan for a long time.
I had the pleasure and honor to meet and perform on the same stage as Cliff last year, he is a great guy and an awesome musician.
I just love the way he 'comes back' to the beat at 1:01
Awesome!! Now to go practice.
Bad-ass. Great touch and dynamics, and super elastic feel.
Extremely difficult with metronome, and he improvs over it, am stunned. Very, Tony Williams, which makes the whole thing even better.
thanks cliff ... love u , number one.
Cliff Almond is a legend! Just listen to his pocket!
So good!
Buenísimo, super, dominio absoluto.... gracias, un placer oírte....
One of my fav new drummers .... fun 🔑!!!

Amazing dude! Congratulations!
groovy and flowing.
Amazing!
GROOVY BABY YEAAAH!
His face is still almost the same from 80's.
You are like a clock, man!!
super drummer!
in my top ten, on of the very best, an underrated drummer, far far better than those gospel chops drummers....
Gospel chops is just mindless unfunky garbage for drummers with no touch.
Could you take flamenco compases and fit with drums? Could be interesting, what patterns you'll create.
Ha! That would be interesting and creative!
Oh my fucking god.
やべえ
The fingers at 1:30 was cool
This guy and harvey mason have that human clock sound down
I Want Dafnis VS Cliff
reminds me of the husband on Reba
where is the time?
Look at the clock on your wall...it will tell you!!
Weckls' mate :-)
considered a weckl "clone" back in the day, down to his drum set and cymbal set up
Krantz brought me here
Brad Pitt?
He looks like brad pitt at various points...
haha pro tools click track right
This is not even close to Chris Coleman's performance spotlight
U are young bro.U'll get it ;)
this is music not a competition
it's slow moving but the end is worth the wait. very diff drummers. if you wanna go that route aaron spears and dana hawkings destroy cole.
Go back and play with your play station,Son!!
