The protesters movement can be disproven as easily as 1+1=2.. tradition created the Bible the Church of the Martyrs had no Bible, and no one in the first 1500 years of Christianity would recognize any Protestant beliefs..When you threw out tradition you lost the little credibility they had in the 1550s..

My wife is a Catholic Native American while I am Irish American and Catholic. While we come from widely divergent cultural backgrounds our faith life is identical. Catholicism is special that way. I expect I won’t mind the lack of Catholic or other theological emphasis in Cabrini. As a Catholic, I know and revere her story. It could be a good thing that the movie emphasizes her commitment to help others as opposed to a commitment to serve her church.

I teared up when I saw the Mother Cabrini I had grown to love through a book suddenly come to life on the big screen through the Oscar-worthy portrayal by Cristiana Dell'Anna.

I also very much enjoy sharing perspectives with my Protestant family (some Presbyterian, some Baptist, some Pentecostal, and some Methodist). We all love God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
I loved your review on the movie. As a Christian I always cringe a bit when a movie has been made about a religious person or event. I plan on seeing this movie and feel I will have the same disappointment about the lack of faith shown. Mother Cabrini was completely surrendered to the will of God. All she did was with complete faith. Thank you for your review!

Thank you for a good review. Catholic here, looking forward to this movie. Consensus from all over is that it is very good. Anyone who makes it to heaven is a saint. The purpose of the Catholic Church canonizing a saint (meaning that it can be assumed that person made it to heaven) is precisely for what you said at the end....That you can look to her story for inspiration and it makes you question your own perseverance for Christ. You summed it up well. Any Christian, not just Catholic, can read the lives of saints and be inspired. I bet her life is even more interesting than the film, as truth is often stranger than fiction. The writings of saints, especially the early Church fathers, are very edifying for the soul. I hope this film does well and that it inspires people to read about the lives of saints. It boggles the mind what graces and opportunities God gives to those who are listening...and to those who don't deserve it!! Some of the most amazing saints had previously been the worst of sinners.

Maturity is required to remember that history proves everything sacred and holy has been attacked, and often defeated, by the forces of evil. These forces tortured Jesus, nailed Him to a cross, and lanced Him with a spear. Evil will remain a crucial threat, and good will forever face a struggle to survive. What survives reflects the intent of the challenged soul. Jesus did not tell Peter the gates of hell would not attack the Church--he told Peter the gates of hell would not prevail.

      @adjd1576 3 месяца назад

@@user-ne1pn8ih4jSure! Well firstly, Catholics, if anything, are the OG Christians. If you look at where any of the protestant faiths come from, you will trace them back to Rome, which you can in turn trace back to the 12 Apostles.
I am not sure what you are referring to with regards to 7 mysteries, but perhaps you are referring to the 15 decades (or mysteries) of the rosary. But yes, we pray to the saints to give them the veneration they are due as very holy people and to ask for their intercession, as people who are humble substitutes in themselves. It really amazes me that protestants are so quick to dismiss the saints as "dead-people" when they believe, as I do, in the resurrection of the dead and eternal life with God in heaven. Isn't that what Christianity is about? I don't think they realize how they sound.
We also pray to God, however, and the highest form of that prayer is in the Mass, which Christ himself instituted during the last supper. Protestants swore off this all-vital form of worship when they abandoned the Church and the line of successors to whom Jesus gave the command: "Do this in memory of me." In short, the protestants have very little of the power Christ vested his Church with, though many of them are baptized and have the ability to baptize, which is sort of a sad fact.
God bless and have a good day

I theorize that they didn't emphasize the religious dimension of her mission because they wanted to maximize the appeal of the movie.
Also, Catholic spirituality especially from that time can be unfamiliar or unintelligible or perhaps even contrary to the sentiments of a non-Catholic or protestant audience.
For instance, Cabrini had a strong devotion to the Eucharist and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The order she founded is in fact named Missionaries (Sisters) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Le Missionarie del Sacro Cuore di Gesù.)
As you may know, Catholics and Orthodox believe that the Eucharist truly is Jesus Christ Himself in the flesh in the most real sense.
But as an introduction, the following can be an indication of "Cabrinian spirituality":
The Constitution of the religious order she founded states that "the vocation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart is a commitment to spread that fire which Jesus came to bring to the earth."
Cabrini would often repeat to the members of her order: "Let us imitate the charity of the adorable Heart of Jesus in the salvation of souls, let us make ourselves everything to everyone to win them all for Jesus, as he himself continues to do", and again: "O Jesus, if only I could open my arms wide and embrace the whole world to give it to you. Oh! How happy I should be!".
Not so different from what Paul felt I imagine. (cf 1 Cor 9:19-23)
She also wrote to the members of the order, "taking Jesus as your model in all events and in all your actions, falling into step with him, to walk only on his path of love".
Obviously Cabrini was taking her cue from what John advised.
(cf. 1John 2:6 - "Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.")
To quote Pope Joh Paul ll when he addressed members of her order, "Her extraordinary activity - as you well know - drew its strength from prayer, especially from long periods before the tabernacle. (i.e. the Eucharist).
Christ was everything to her. Her constant concern was to discern his will in the directives of the Church’s Magisterium and in the events of life themselves..."
Pope John Paul closed as follows, "...May each of you often repeat throughout your lives these words of the Apostle which were so dear to your holy foundress:
“Omnia possum in eo qui me confortat - I can do all things in him who strengthens me” (Phil 4: 13)."
The above I think, allows us to glimpse Mother Cabrini's deep faith that impelled her towards the tremendous things she accomplished.
There is a reason I believe God raises such paragons of our Faith from among us in every generation:
To jolt us out of the "slumber of normality" and remind us that WE too are called to manifest in our living, the fullest meaning of what we profess.

I saw it at NRB and was pleasantly surprised. But I agree with you. There were certain moments where I think it could’ve been more appropriate to lean in theologically. There was one moment when all the women are gathered together to go to Italy, and it would’ve been appropriate for them to say we could do all things through Christ, but she was encouraging the women as if there’s nothing they can’t do on their own. Other than that, I enjoyed the film

Prots miss out on how wonderful our Saints are. They help us, they help us relate to them as humans & help us try to be saints. Prots don’t know what you’re missing. Look up Saint Maximilian Kolbe to see just how much we need Saints. Christ built ONE true Church…on the rock of Peter (whose name was Simon…& Peter translates to ROCK in both Hebrew & Aramaic). I attended Mother Cabrini High School, in Manhattan, from 1957 to 1961. A shrine was built on the grounds and completed in my senior year. Those four years were four of the best years of my life. I got a fantastic education, taught by Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the order Cabrini founded. The school is now closed, and that is a shame, because it provided a wonderful educational experience, and a culture that was loving and kind.

I’d guess that one reason they didn’t have as much prayer/ Christian devotional/theological scenes as you would expect is because they probably want to move the Christian movie genre away from the overt preachiness that is such an alienating trope. Even as a Christian I cant stand watching most Christian movies because it always feels more like affirmative propaganda, and less like I’m being told a story worth telling. If that makes sense?

I love your videos. I am a Catholic and I do have great respect for Protestants. Of course, not for every Protestant, just as I do not respect every Catholic (our present Pope is no exception). I feel that the differences between Catholics (or even Eastern Orthodox) and Protestants can be looked upon as differing but essential "gifts". I love Catholicism and my Catholic faith and I can also see the amazing contributions of Protestantism. In my opinion, Catholics prayers tend to be more of surrender and supplication, while Protestant prayer fall more in line with declarations of the glory of God. Neither is exclusive of the other's temperament. My guess is that God uses both as needed in the salvation of our world and of human beings. I may disagree with some of what you say, but I also agree with much of what you present and speak of. I believe that all the "Woke" insanity is setting and highlighting a unique contrast and providing a possibility of seeing where, in essential truths, we agree and can unite with each other as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am looking forward to viewing "Cabrini." I had never even heard of this saint before. Again thank you for your videos and for this movie review. Blessings!

Thank you for your honest review. As a Catholic, it helps to hear what others think. Most Catholics, have at least heard of Mother Cabrini or Saint Frances Cabrini. It’s unfortunate there were not more prayerful moments or theological moments. Angel Studios is not Catholic (it was started by two brothers who are Mormon/LDS), so I don’t expect them to get it all like us Catholics (and others) would like it. Those things were probably kept out to “appeal to a greater audience.” Non-Catholics usually complain about Catholic prayers, imagery, etc in a mainstream movie. I will probably wait until I can steam it for free. As an aside, I used to be a religious sister (lived in a Catholic convent, etc).

"Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church [Letter to the Smyrnaeans(c. A.D. 107)]. -St. Ignatius of Antioch, who lived from ~ A.D. 35-107. He was the third bishop of Antioch and tradition records that he was a disciple of St. John the Apostle.
"Fly to the Catholic Church! Adhere to the only faith which continues to exist from the beginning, that faith which was preached by Paul and is upheld by the Chair of Peter." -St. Hippolytus (A.D. 170-236)
"There is one God, and Christ is one, and there is one Church, and one chair founded upon the rock [St. Peter] by the word of The Lord. Another altar cannot be constituted nor a new priesthood be made, except the one altar and the one priesthood. Whosoever gathers elsewhere, scatters." -St. Cyprian of Carthage [Letters 39:5(A.D. 251)].
"But what is also to the point, let us note that the very tradition, teaching and faith of the Catholic Church from the beginning, which the Lord gave, was preached by the Apostles, and was preserved by the Fathers. On this was the Church founded; and if anyone departs from this, he neither is nor any longer ought to be called a Christian" -St. Athanasius (296 A.D.-373 A.D.)
"[T]here are many other things which most properly can keep me in [the Catholic Church’s] bosom. The unanimity of peoples and nations keeps me here. Her authority, inaugurated in miracles, nourished by hope, augmented by love, and confirmed by her age, keeps me here. The succession of priests, from the very see of the apostle Peter, to whom the Lord, after his resurrection, gave the charge of feeding his sheep [John 21:15-17], up to the present episcopate, keeps me here. And last, the very name Catholic, which, not without reason, belongs to this Church alone, in the face of so many heretics, so much so that, although all heretics want to be called ‘Catholic,’ when a stranger inquires where the Catholic Church meets, none of the heretics would dare to point out his own basilica or house" (Against the Letter of Mani Called "The Foundation" 4:5 [A.D. 397]). - St. Augustine

Her strength was from God. She was a nun. The show didn't reveal how much prayer, or the daily masses she and the other nuns went to; or the daily meditation of scripture which nuns do.
The movie was a WITNESSING of CHRISTIAN LIFE when we FOLLOW GOD'S WILL. Cabrini is about a nun who was holy and became a Saint. The way it was made (minimal Catholic theology) was to show the universal life of a christian- living your prayers, worship and scriptures for the glory of God.

    I’m Catholic.
I saw the film this afternoon.
I don’t know how faithful it was the accounts of Mother Cabrini’s life. But I thought it was wonderful.
I thought the pope being portrayed was Pius IX, and not Leo XIII. But in either case, I thought the actor portrayed the pope quite well.
I saw who looked like Theodore Roosevelt. I don’t know how involved TR was with the events involving Cabrini, but he was on the board of New York City Police Commissioners.
All in all, this makes me want to learn more about her.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it. The trailer looked amazing. For years we would visit a relative that lived on Cabrini Blvd in NY and it was my understanding there was a church on that street that had her incorrupt remains - although I was much younger so I can't be certain if that is true.

My wife and I are both Catholic from birth. We will be going to see this movie for sure. Interestingly, our parish church has a relic of St. Mother Cabrini in our altar. Great video and review.

I went to see it. Some parts as an Italian American were hard to watch but it was inspiring to see one of my own rise up and succeed when the weight of an entire city was on her shoulders .

Can’t wait to see it. Cabrini has a miracle that happened as an answered prayer in Colorado near Denver where she asked God for water in the Rocky Mountains and water flowed. I visited and it affirmed her pretty amazing story. My wife is also Italian from Verona, so we both can’t wait to see it and hear if the subtitles were right 😂 tbd …

I have had a spiritual connection with Mother Cabrini since I was a student at St. Donato's Parochial School in Overbrook, PA from 1962 to 1970, and was taught by The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mother Cabrini's religious order of nuns. I remember that the fully professed nuns were addressed as "Mother" rather than "Sister" because Mother Cabrini wanted the children, particularly the orphans, to feel that the nuns would be like mothers to them. In the mid-to-late 60s, the term "Mother" was changed to "Sister" and the religious name that was given to each nun was changed to their baptismal name, for instance Mother Elvira became Sister Dorothy and Mother Laurentzina became Sister Diane. A few years later, the sisters changed to a modified habit.

I did see this movie when it first came out. Wow, it is so well done. I was a bit surprised and actually convicted because I am not sure I have the faith she had. It is worthy to watch.
