I purchased the DDT-S30 model to test. Its not bad for $15 bucks shipped from Ebay. They do sound remarkably good*. The construction on them is pretty wild for $15 bucks. Even has the Alpine Logo on the Tweeter. mine did not come in a box except for a shipping box and a styrofoam outlay for everything that is packaged Inside the Box. My meter rates the drivers at a Raw 1.9 Ohms. As far as its frequency response, it's a little lacking at the high end compared to better tweeters on the market but performs acceptable for its price point. what's going to get you is that this tweet or does not actually like to be listened to on access and actually prefers to be placed at an angle for best frequency response. for less than $7.50 a tweeter, I'm not going to complain too much since I can't even get a cheeseburger for that much anymore.
Yeah I was looking specifically for a video on this topic, exactly the tweeters I bought on eBay some years back at a deep discount, never used them always thought something wasn't right.
@@702motoringlasvegas4 I actually think it would be a better reason to at least mention the results of the sound comparison. It would hammer home that people need to be careful about what they buy.
@@702motoringlasvegas4 It would have been worth posting, people will look at this and think they are worth buying since the visual difference is negligible, people will care about the sound quality though.
hahaha. I said similarly. If Diamond can't spell, then why would I buy their stuff, and this guy can't spell either, so they must get along well. DA has typos all over their website and products.
I bought a newer car and swapped all my audio over from the old car. Had tweeters cut into the door panel so I left them and bought new so there wouldn't be a hole left. Just went out and checked the crossover. Yes the new ones are these fakes just like what you showed. I switched out my old real ones for these fakes. Guess it cost $30 to fill those holes... The thing is someone spent around $30,000.00 to have these tooled up and what maybe they make $15 off each set? They need to sell 2000 just to break even. I wonder if I can get my money back from ebay, it was a month ago. Sheesh.
if its been a month you probably can get your money back when you dispute it on ebay. They will most likely favor the buyer over the seller most of the time depends on the situation.
Fake counterfeit items on eBay are also never packaged professionally before they are shipped via fedex or ups or usps and they can and will get damaged during shipping.
Some people know they are fake and buy them for other reasons than the sound. but, anything made in China can be made and sold either as fakes or just make some slight changes and sell them as another brand, kind of like what Diamond Audio does.
@@702motoringlasvegas4 Right now I have to go to work. But I have seen some raw drivers with similar piece to try and disperse the sound more. But, in all reality, once the horn is blasting and the Hz increase and power output at any given Hz increases, the wavelength gets smaller and smaller until the motions forward of sound and its dispersion is more related to the diameter of the diaphragm than anything else. So, a 4" horn will obviously have more dispersion than a 2" horn, esp. when playing loudly, and while there are ways to increase dispersion/less focus the sound, it will still be mechanically limited by the diameter of the diaphragm. Do all legitimate alphine tweeters have Bennic branded capacitors in them (mine has the branding on the cap)? I bought a second hand set and concerned I may have been sold a counterfeit. Note: Im only concered as it doesnt have branded alphine on the metal backing of the tweeter. All other branding and appearance looks authentic. Ie product numbering on the back of the plastic and the cover being like the real one shown.
Yikes! And it looks like there are still lots of counterfeits listed on Ebay. Out of curiosity did you guys hook up the fakes to see how they sounded? While I certainly think the legitimate Alpine tweeters would sound better, there are probably many people out there who have the fakes hooked up and don't even know it.
We did, they sounded different at any sound level compared to the Alpine R Tweeters, when at higher volume with a small 50 Watt Amp they started to distort out and crackle, tried the second set and they did the same thing, so the quality is not near the same.
Simple answer, we ordered 10 sets because the price was below our cost, in the world we live in people are free to sell items at whatever price they choose, if a person has a 200K Ferrari and decides to sell it for 25K he is free to do so, We had no way of knowing what we received would be counterfeit, once that was determined the items were sent back and we received a refund, we do not bait and switch product to our customers nor do we sell counterfeit product. We anticipate that this answer satisfies your curiosity
At the end of the day....how do they sound? Do the authentic sound 4 times better then the knock offs? Do you think people are going to spend $120 for real ones when they can spend $30 for the fakes? As an authorized dealer I am sure you are not happy with this but do you realize what this video has done? Is shows the fakes look just as good as the real and "sound like tweeters" as you said. Thanks for confirming the knock offs are legit!!
phh hahaha. Oh man. I told him some people by fakes on purpose. I mean after 28 years of this crap, I've seen guys buy fakes and stick them in the car just to help sell it, saying it has a high performance aftermarket system. And, most lay people wouldn't notice they were fake anyway, even when listening to them. It's us audio guys who would tell. Most people get so used to the distortion of OEM systems that they become accustomed to that sound, like pushing a pair of speakers real hard to distortion. So when they do hear loud and clear without distortion, they feel unimpressed. The only way to actually wow these type of people is to have a super loud and clear, distortion-free system that rocks them.

Thanks so much for the video. I'm glad I purchased my type R's from Crutchfield.
You are in great shape with Crutchfield
Thank you for this video! There is a guy near me selling the knock offs.
Glad we could help

Thanks for sharing
Why not do a sound comparison just to see actually how much different they are
We did, it was a waste of time and not worth posting, there is a night and day difference in sound quality between Real and Counterfeit Tweeters

A sound comparison would be much more interesting. Especially if you had some way of measuring outputs.
Focal has been counterfeit for years. $1500 component sets for $200.
Wow, did not know as we do not sell that brand
Thanks for the video, almost purchase a counterfeit one. 😂
Almost bought some but noticed spelling error on the side of the box in photo "Coutout" diameter

I would like to see the rta comparison between the 2.
Same noticed no emblems on the tweeter. And they say that the color my be different....
They are very close, the normal person would more than likely not notice the difference

All shipping companies seem to be getting worse

You sure? Show me a competing Horn as in the M1SRT, MO75T or even the CV P75T that looks even slightly close,

Good video!
Glad you enjoyed it
What side is positive on the real ones? I haven't been able to find it anywhere

There are different styles of knockoff alpine tweeters, it is hard to say
Yep. I bought some from ebay for $60 and they look fantastic with exact replica boxes and sound really poor. Such a scam
Agreed
The ddt30 alpine tweeters found on ebay and Amazon are also fake.
Yes they are
I just received a kit from China today and they are counterfeit :(
Sorry to hear
It is very likely that the fakes are coming out of the back door of the same factory.
Possibly
They break so quickly original to
very true
Should at least test them for sound..cause for price difference its probably worth it
We did test them, at low volumes they where OK, however using a small amp and at volume they quality was noticeably poor
The knock offs are trash. Including the fake ddt30 Alpine found on ebay and amazon.
Lol it’s the same fkn Chinese made alpine tweets but for 1/4 of the price sounds like a win to me
Until you wire them up and listen to them 🤣

Sorta like a Fake Rolex from downtown LA, Looks as good as a 10K watch for 300 bucks !! Win Win !!

They sound like a $5.00 set of Tweeters, no more and no less, if that is legit to you then so be it..
