'England can win Euros', says Gareth Southgate as he picks squad and drops the big guns

- England manager Gareth Southgate believes his team can win this year's European Championship in Germany, as he announces his provisional squad for the tournament.
He told Sky's Rob Harris: "We're one of the teams that can win. That's our ambition to go there and do that."
Southgate also explained why he dropped experienced internationals like Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson.

I don't get why people are giving Gareth such a hard time. He has done better than any manager for decades. He took us to a semi-final and a final, the latter of which we lost on penalties.
We might not win, but we've done the best since '66. English football is in a good direction... World Class players, Strong growing Youth Football - England will win I guarantee within 10 years.

Selecting Mainoo over Harvey Elliot is an absolute joke. Elliot's stats are much better. His creativity from midfield is better than Curtis Jones's too. I'm happy to see Jones get picked but he doesn't deserve it over Elliot. Elliot's been in better form. Southgate has consistently overlooked Elliot who's been doing it for two seasons now for Liverpool and is always solid, always puts a shift in, but Southgate would rather pick some flash in the pan like Mainoo who's only had about 15 decent games. Disgusting.
