George Lucas is so dastardly. He frames the jedi as heroes, and in the context of Star Wars they are. However, irl their philosophy and way of being is anti-human. The scene with Luminara and Anakin is the apotheosis of this. Anakin wants to search for Ahsoka and the other padawan while Luminara simply bends over and gives up. Ironically, things usually work out in Anakin's favor and produce equal if not better outcomes, ultimately culminating in the events of Return of the Jedi. So maybe I'm actually wrong? Regardless, what people typically take away from SW is that jedi are good and cool so I think I'm at least partially correct, especially if people try to apply SW philosophy to their real lives.
I think that in that episode at least, the message was about not giving up on your friends and trying your hardest to make things right as Anakin did, but also to be ready to accept that death is inevitable even if it can be beaten back temporarily. If you cannot accept that death is an unavoidable reality then you will suffer as you are forced to come to terms in one way or another. In short Filoni seemed to be advocating for a middle path.
You're right, to be a true jedi its to not be human, because jedis are not human. You understand this, too, because you see what good short term options for anakin do to the universe anakin lives in. Letting go is sometimes good for humans, but always neccesary for jedi, because if they form attachments then they bend the force, and they unbalance the universe in doing so. Being a jedi is giving up your humanity for the greater good.
The ironic thing is that Luke's final choice that he makes in RoTJ is to disobey the Jedi. Obi wan and Yoda both tell him to kill Vader, but Luke does his own thing and saves him. It's him making the 'human' choice that saves the day.
"I have thought of this moment, more than you know. And I wondered, if here, at this ending between us, if you would care enough to try to save me-if you could find it within yourself to spare one who has fallen so far. If a Jedi could find it within themselves to spare one who has fallen so far. I wanted you to say that you would save me. For that, I am grateful. But I do not want your mercy. I want you to be complete, as you were meant to be. To let the echo die, and hear the sound of the Force again." -Kreia, to the Exile
After watching this video a few times now I've noticed a very important lesson in it. Through all of these clips Anakin is the only person who is shown unable to let go, of even the most minor things. Even his apprentice warns him to stop and let Bane go so they can get to safety. Anakin ignores Lars' advice and goes to seek his mother. When you see this you see Anakin as a kindhearted person, someone who truly cares. The biggest issue is that he is right. Ahsoka was alive under the wreckage, if he listened to Luminara, she probably would've died. If he didn't seek out his mother, he never would've seen her alive for one last time, and this was the ultimate problem. He acted on instinct and emotion and saved those that others had already decided to let go of, or won a battle when others believed it to be lost. It sounds altruistic, and it is. It ultimately lead to his downfall. His altruistic actions were pure and true, and they ended up mutating his soul, causing him to believe that with more power he could save more people, protect those closest to him. Maybe if he was willing to let go of one person he would've been prepared for death, ready to let go when someone was truly beyond saving. When Palpatine tells Vader that Padme was killed in his anger, this is what he really meant. Anakin didn't directly kill his wife, but he became so absorbed with seeking power for a greater purpose, that he lost the meaning behind what he was seeking it for. Anakin sought the power to save others more than he sought the willingness to let go of those he couldn't. It's similar to a soldier who watches his squad mates die beside him, but continues to fight on instead of trying to help them. It may be dangerous to do. Sure one person is saved, but what if more are injured by your actions? You have to refuse your current impulse in order to do what is right. That can be a strength, and it is one Anakin lacked.
Yeah exactly this is why he fell, because, to his perspective, he was getting good results with this mindset, without adressing in which ways this way of thinking made him vulnerable and rigid, because if things are beyond his control or capacity, such as Padme's fate, then he broke.
But now it seems like Disney wants to sell more toys. It will be honestly be a Bit interesting if Mando's and Grogu's both refusal to let go will lead to great pain or not. (From the Rules it should I am however unsure if they would really do this).

I think people are more defiant of the Jedi code more than just being "light sided" just like obi-wan you can still love; as long as it doesn't become a dangerous obsession like Anakin's fall to the dark side.
Exactly. Love, empathise, have compassion, even attachment, but don't let it lead you into obsession and selfishness in times where you have no other option but to let go, and don't give into hate or anger. A prime example can be found in unrequited love. You can love someone who doesn't love you. When they reject you, you have two options, to leave them be and respect them, loving them by means of not becoming possessive of them, or, you can become possessive, a stalker, thinking only of what you want and not what they want, and love becomes hatred and control. Applied to the Force and the Jedi, it's realising you protect others because you care about them, but not to the degree where you're willing to give into the Darkside of the Force to save them, which results in destroying your humanity afterward, and you yourself kill the ones you once loved. It's similar to that desperation of unrequited love turning into poison if it's not tamed and viewed in perspective. There is nothing wrong with the love itself, but only when it drives a person beyond love into something ugly. Luke in ROTJ was the prime example of this, he shown Jedi can love, and that love can save them and those they protect, by realising the Darkside is not love, but hatred and anger. Love/attachment saved Vader and Luke both in the end, but a pure love, free of negativity. Though Vader goaded Luke with his emotions for Leia, it was the lie Vader told, that "only the Darkside" can save her, it's the attempt to brainwash, to polarise. Vader was raised by flawed Jedi and was taught love = darkside, and so he was passing on that flawed Jedi teaching to Luke at the end of ROTJ, but in a Sith manner, to convert him. Luke realised the ultimate truth, love = lightside, if absent of selfishness and hate, and that it can be a source of strength, without corruption.
I let go of sequels and new canon of Star Wars. As far as I'm concerned they don't exist in my mind set. Either the sequels of old was okay at first until the dark time of the "Last Jedi" movie came along and ruined it for me and many other. I understand the message, but still dislike how they created Last Jedi movie.
Without you telling me, I'll never know who had the coolest lightsaber or who was most powerful or which Jedi hated which things! Thank you for not getting caught up in the lightsaber porn. I know if you make a Star Wars video, the smart money is on it being great.
He let go of nothing. He's still one of the richest people in the world and adheres in no way to his own philosophy. He didn't give up his riches, he didn't let go of any desires. Do you know why Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is so vastly different in tone than the other two movies? Because he was broken up over his divorce and his inability to let go of his wife. The man preaches that everybody should live like a buddhist monk, else great suffering would arise for not only themselves but for the world at large, but that's complete bogus. Yes, greed can lead to great evils (like wars that engulf the world) but it's not like as if your love for your parent or your spouse will ultimately lead you to become a world-destroying dictator like in Star Wars. That's complete nonsense. Lucas presents a false dichotomy and people are falling for it hook line and sinker.
Being able to let go. It's much easier said than done, since there are some things that we simply can't or won't let go. The Heart of Star Wars indeed. Excellent video
This is why Mira's training is the best part of KOTOR 2, it allows the player to be a proper teacher who adresses the main issue that is treated in Star Wars, the Exile is being redeemed from her past mistakes through her trainee (akin to parenthood), while at the same time teaching her how to be able to let go of her possessive needs while still being capable of living with the suffering.
Learning to let go of things that hurt you is one thing...............But denying your instincts to protect those you hold dear is quite another. If there is an option to complete the mission and save whom you hold most dear, I take it in an instance.
I'm not sure if Anakins stubbornness is always a bad thing. "It is their time to die" this way of thinking makes me quite mad. How many deaths might be avoided if one would have acted. To give one example. If the Government had acted sooner, the Beirut Explosion would have never happened. Letting go is one thing. Dooming 2 lifes because your religion or ideology says so is another. We know that Anakin doomed his Padmes life and his own because he caught a glimpse of her death. He acted out of Fear. But I think this is not a good example when talking about letting go. Because the way I see it when you see just a glimpse, a moment of the future, everything you do will lead to it. Even if Anakin did indeed let go, Padme would have died anyways. And Palpatine would have won. Destiny and stuff. Some of these let go's seem to be contradictory. If Han would have let go of the TIE than the events leading to the Empire destruction might not have happened. I also do believe you put maybe a few let go's to many into this Video. Some of them are a normal response to certain situations, not really a connection to the theme of Star Wars. It's more to think about.
Most people that still like him (including me) have never had a problem with him to begin with. The people that called him an idiot still think he's an idiot.
@@robocawk I think he's a genius. But he made the wrong choice working with Disney. It's no different than picking the light side or the dark side choice. Lucas on the other hand chose a dark side which led to the sequel. But it led to a good outcome with the Mandalorian series, Star Wars Rebels, Rogue one movie and the Han Solo movie.
Red letter media made it cool to shit all over George Lucas and his work. and yes I AM willing to die on this hill. They are over-hyped and too many people have treated them like prophets, too such a degree that I genuinely believe that it has now gone to their heads. Apologies cannot and will not help George now. He has lost everything to Disney, his very own IP, the stories and messages he tried to tell, with said IP. The games studio he created to pioneer story telling in video gaming. All because "Ha hA HA JaR jAr BaD!" Sure George surrounded himself with Yes men, and that falls on him. But the internet ran with the "hate the prequels" meme for years. The very same way that everyone bullies the quiet nerd. Easy target, makes you feel like your part of something and nobody will challenge what you say.
The force is like steady stream of water. It flows through everything. The will of the force is how the stream shapes, determines or forms everything in it. Each life is like grain of sand in the water. It's destiny is predetermined by the force. Each jedi is like a pebble in the water. More water flows across it's larger surface. The Exile is like a pebble removed from the stream. Darth Nihilus is like a titanic maelstrom, sucking sand, pebble, and water into it's abyss.
Funny story, I play tf2 and whenever I play sniper. I am afraid to miss My shot. And as a result, it leads to my perpetual failure of hitting my target. Not until I "let go" of my fear of missing. And as a result, I become more accurate. Sure I may miss. But I'm better off
Battle on Mustafar: The Musical Obi-wan: "Anakin, Let it go, Let it go, Or you won't be jedi anymore, Let it go, Let it go, You're the last hope of Qui-Gon!" Anakin: "I don't care, What you have to say, Padme will not die, and jedi are evil anyway!"
Theres letting go, and there's not even trying. The green lady, and perhaps some of the other Jedi, where to quick to give up, a bit too stuck on the "no attachments no feelings". Of course, Anakin was a bit too much on the other spectrum. Kenobi usually seemed pretty balanced about it, Ashoka too, when she got older.
Batman is not capable of letting anything go, it's the reason why he's so angry. Anger leads to hate ( batman definitely hates), and hate leads to suffering ( batman definitely suffers). To paraphrase what the Joker said to Batman at the end of Batman The Animated Series "deep down you're still a little boy crying over mommy and daddy, I'd laugh if it weren't so pathetic, oh what the hell I'll laugh anyway- HA HA HA HA".
It never ceases to amaze me how billionares tell the "little people", the common man, to let go of things, while they have the entire world in the palm of their hands. It is the feasting man telling the starving people to stop being so damn hungry.
I forgot how crappy the CW animation was at the start. Also forgot how much I loved the movies and especially prequel era. Should I let go of my hate of everything Disney?
I sometimes wonder if Count Dooku could've gone down the same path as Kreia did had he survived Revenge Of The Sith. He felt betrayed by the Jedi and was betrayed by the Sith. Would've been interesting to see how his view of the force would have evolved, or maybe he would have just learned to "Let go"
I argue that Dooku and Kreia are both Grey Sith. They tried to improve the Republic while siding with the Sith, but were ultimately betrayed before they could accomplish anything. The endpoint is that joining the Sith leads nowhere.
Pretty much, the only difference being that Kreia survived her betrayal and got a chance to find a new approach. It was a win-win for her since either the exile would carry on at least some of her teachings into the future (Well until TOR came along) or the exile died at the heart of Malachor and created that giant ass echo that may or may not have been enough to deafen the galaxy to the force. That's kind of why I've always wondered what Dooku might have become if given a second chance (Or head-canon he finds one of Kreia's holocrons) but I don't think he has anywhere near the same aptitude for manipulation and concealing one's own presence in the force that Kreia had, so its likely any action he took would only draw Palpatine's attention and it'd be all downhill from there. I think a book about Dooku's past was recently released, but I haven't read it yet, but it sounds interesting since he was a rare Jedi who was always questioning the order's decisions, and he encouraged Qui-gon to always question them as well.

I think most of my views on the Sequels are summarized in my The Last Jedi video, although I would also add the caveat that Rey's entire journey is for her to let go of her parents in the TFA, learning that she can choose what to not let go and let go (she lets go of Kylo yet doesn't let go the past and respects it), and in RoSW, she lets go of her fears and connection to her family to affirm her own (taking the name of Skywalker). There's not much else to add. I also talk about the Sequel a bit in my Foundations of Star Wars regarding the kiss scene.

The message of Lucas-only Star Wars is fundamentally anti-life and incompatible with real life.
Also The Jedi using and allowing shortened life expectancy clones for their wars is the most fucked up shit.

@@The.RUclipsr.with.no.Name. just goes to show how strong Lucas made his ethical framework in his stories.
Omg Same!
I love how The Mandalorian did this. Mando let go of Grogu, and thus continued this theme.
But now it seems like Disney wants to sell more toys. It will be honestly be a Bit interesting if Mando's and Grogu's both refusal to let go will lead to great pain or not. (From the Rules it should I am however unsure if they would really do this).

The heart of Star Wars is the True Lesson of Strength
It ends as it began, with people not letting go.
For if they did, there would be no story or show.
I think people are more defiant of the Jedi code more than just being "light sided"
just like obi-wan you can still love; as long as it doesn't become a dangerous obsession like Anakin's fall to the dark side.
I will let go of the star wars that is, so i can love the star wars that was.
Same
I let go of sequels and new canon of Star Wars. As far as I'm concerned they don't exist in my mind set. Either the sequels of old was okay at first until the dark time of the "Last Jedi" movie came along and ruined it for me and many other. I understand the message, but still dislike how they created Last Jedi movie.

Thanks Rika, very cool
George let go knowing his legacy would live on through hands of new generations. Why can’t people do the same..

I've been looking forward to this
Let it go, let it goooo
I'm one with the Force
Dot doesn't support Lucas's beliefs, reasoning, or the overall theme of Star Wars. ruclips.net/video/-a7x5N2eVFE/видео.html&ab_channel=%D6%B4
That's the reason Anakin is such a tragic character. His stubbornness to let go is both his greatest asset and his most fatal flaw.

Let-that-melon-go
Batman is not capable of letting anything go, it's the reason why he's so angry.

And not a single clip from the sequel trilogy. This is good
I was tempted to add The Last Jedi but chose not to, so as to remain consistent with the Lucas approved canon.
