Glad to see your take on this album. I agree, Paysage d'hiver is one of the most consistent black metal projects and moving forward I believe wintherr will continue to surprise us. Cheers! From Puerto Rico. Beautiful landscape as well.
I like Geister (Ghosts) for sure, but just a year after "Im Wald", it doesn't cut it against it - for my personal taste. Please do these BM album reviews into winter, it feels weird into spring or summer.
I would love to hear your thoughts on Das Tor and the rest of Paysage d'Hiver's discography. I've been making my way through his work and Das Tor is my favriote so far. The production on it is magical. The kick drum is hypnotic and cuts through the mix just enough whole the guitar paints the coldest of landscapes. The music also evokes this feel of transcendence or almost astral projection reminiscent of the spiritual jazz albums Alice Coltrane did with Pharoah Sanders or Sun Ra's Lanquidity album. I actually listened to Das Tor for the first time last night and decided to listen to it immediately after the first listen. It's still new to me but it definitely feels like it could be my favriote black metal album. Sorry for the long ass comment. I'm really enjoying your nature hikes and reviews.
Yeah Das Tor is his masterpiece in my opinion, I'd be happy to do a review of that sometime. Maybe I'll get working on that while I'm waiting for 2022 records to start rolling in. The jazz comparison is really interesting, I'll have to give those a listen! I definitely enjoy jazz, but I haven't really explored the genre beyond the very obvious classics. I appreciate the comment man, I'm always down to talk metal haha.
Awesome record for Wintherr! I think it has a punk feel to it, more direct and punchy than all the other Demos/Album he has released so far. Im Wald was my AOTY 2020 I think Geister will be high as well although I doubt it´ll peak that high this time. You are absolutley correct on your translations btw, I´m german.
Yeah that's a really concise way of putting it! Definitely more riff-focused than atmosphere-focused. I'm with you there, I usually do a top 20 just so I can include everything I like, and I suspect this will fall between 11 and 20. Cheers, that's good to hear! I took a few semesters of German in college but I haven't practiced since graduating and I've been learning Norwegian on my own so my Deutsch is rusty haha.
Great review! I did a mini review of this album on my Instagram (I mentioned Unholy Descent to you not too long ago)! I’ve been enjoying the D-Beat rhythms that Wintherr incorporated into this album. Almost every single one of his releases is a good place to start if you want to get into PDI.
Haha, I think I actually say in the channel intro that I stole the idea from him. Luckily I live near enough cool stuff that the idea was worth stealing.
@@AveMors i also wanted to add, i had no clue people were just now getting into paysage d'hiver. i found out about this project after listening to darkspace circa their third (III) album.
@@iknowthatyougreatlyloveyou1613 Yeah I've loved this project since a friend showed me Das Tor in 2013. He's always been a big name in the underground but I think once Fantano reviews one of your albums you've reached a whole new audience.

Agreed, this album seems like a reminder that we shouldn't assume we know what to expect from him haha.
Damn we got an intro now!
I can teach you how to say Paysage D'Hiver if needed.
Damn, it's still that bad? 😂

Nice review. My lp just arrived yesterday!
Hell yeah! If I was a vinyl guy at all I would absolutely start with collecting his stuff.
Love the video man. Been meaning to listen to this since it came out so I guess I’ll have to listen to it now. Thanks for the review.
Appreciate you saying so man, hope you enjoy the record!

Oh shit I'll check that out! Yeah this album has a really unique vibe to it, I'm glad it exists while still hoping he returns to the older style soon.
scenery reminds me of Jackson Crawford vids
