- Are Egypt, Cairo and the Pyramides overrated? Or does social media just make it seem that way? Yes, probably, you expect more, visiting the great pyramides of Giza, the last remaining of the original 7 Wonders of the World in Egypt, Cairo. But why do we have these high expectations? Mainly, I think, because it is not depicted as it is, in media, incl. social media.
But, I personally think, there's a lot that we can do about that. Number one thing is, to look up our destination and to do some research and simply to know (!) that it might look different in real life. I think media has changed our perception of how places look like, and tourism has changed, how places really look like.
But tourism and social media cannot take away Egypts history, it's meaning for the world and for each and every one of us. Egypt will in my eyes always be an amazing country. Even though, I am not a fan of places, that you would call "touristy", I had to do the touristy thing in Cairo, Giza, as it was a huge dream of mine to see it in person.
But I learned a couple of things from it, and in this video, I am going to share everything, I've experienced and learned as a first time visitor and solo female traveler.

Egypt was the worse holiday we ever had. everyone will try to scam and bait you, steal money, even police and people at airport. horrible. stay away from this lawless country until they learn to be hospitable and not steal from tourists pouring money into their country.

I have been fascinated with the Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt, so as the Sphinx too.
Also, I only learned about Ramesses from the legend of Moses, through the large statues.

Every tour will be different. I unfortunately don't know how much the saqqara pyramids are separate. I had a whole tour. :)

Nothing inside the pyramids, because they aren't tombs. Valley of the kings has plenty there of that.
I felt my visit to the pyramids was my worse experience of all of Egypt. Its such an amazing site but i wish they would have better control of the scammers. You cannot walk in peace without someone coming up to you trying to sell you something. Its well worth seeing one time but not a place I ever need to go back to.
You should go with someone! Noone talked to me when I was with other people/ a guide!! That's why I'm saying get a guide or book a tour! I loved it!
