Chapati and pilau (pulau) are staple East African dishes that did not originate in Africa but Africans embraced the dishes as their own. Tbh, a party without chapati and pilau is a meeting.
@@Karma.Sutera haha, you can actually say that. They didn't even care to change the name. Just took it straight from there. Roti and chapati as well as samosas are words (and foods) from the Indian subcontinent.
You can tell (from the split-second expression on her face) that when Lizzie tasted Jawhara's Chapati, she realized that it tasted better than hers. After that immediate realization, she suddenly decided that she didn't like Jawhara's Chapati at all. Interesting . . .
It can't be the same video I watched. Lizzie went back for seconds on Mulinde's chapati and rated it a 9. What did Jawhara do? She spat it out and rated it a 4? Bad vibes fr
Enjoyed this episode ❤ I would've loved to see them try their own dish unknowingly (but not including the score in the overall count) since some of their comments were very similar lol.
Ugandan chapati is a type of roti as they also mentioned in the vid but it’s actually closer to a Paratha. Paratha is typically a bit thicker than plain roti/Indian chapati and stuffed with different veggies. Can be potatoes, cauliflower and even Paneer (cottage cheese) I love seeing things make their way into other countries and cultures
Great comment. So I believe the chapati was introduced to East African cuisine through trade with India and that’s how South Asian cuisine found its way into Ugandan cuisine. However a big difference is Indian cuisine has different names for different types of flatbread. Paratha, roti, puri, bhakri, dosa, chila, batti, litti etc However in Ugandan cuisine, they are all called chapati. Potatoes, cauliflower or paneer wouldn’t be in a Ugandan chapati. At most, it would be onions and grated carrots
Yeah, I was so confused cos in Somalia (we call it Kibis or Sabaayad) and Kenya it's a pan fried flad bread that we eat with other stuff like stews for lunch and dinner or tea and sugar/honey for breakfast. So, all this seasoning and vegetable talk had me wondering if we were talking about the same thing.
So the guys Chapati got two good scores, and the third lady spit it out. 😒 I don't know about some of these opinions. I'd love to see older people make the dish, and a different group judge it.
I clicked this thinking u guys r trying Indian chapati.... But after seeing this video I got to its actually Uganda s chapati this was intresting to watch. We in Maharashtra India usually eat plain chapati with any curry or vegtables . quite interesting vedio
Bro how are these guys chewing on a thin roti-like layer acting like they’re gnawing on 10 inch raw steak? Lmao or spitting it back out. These food critiques are getting too much now. You are there to represent your culture and introduce us to your food, not act like chef ramsey only to end up having your food be rated low. Cmon guys, do better. Also, i don’t understand saying only nice things about someone’s chapati, only to rate it a 6 (but that may be affected by the editing)..
Chapati is a fav, it should be thin but not too thin, maybe a crepe thin, or roti thin; and any added veggies must be finely finely chopped to not detect the veggies. Plus colour, texture, taste, visual appearance of presentation are key elements All of them missed the mark big item, they need to call on the ancestors to help them in the kitchen or take a trip to the villages back home for a authentic refresher Chapati making Please have a rematch, but based on the comments from the tasters and the looks the gentleman was my pick to win, even when there was a few missteps Overall loving the segment and vibes More please ❤ thank you all for sharing with us
Shocking that people don't realize east Africa has been trading with India for thousands of years...there's definitely been some cultural exchange over time.
I know chappatti as an Asian food so this was unexpected. I don't know how i feel about it, Asian chappatti is simple but gorgeous. I need to try the Ugandan version. We definitely need a seperate judge, to give a score as this scoring was all over the place.
Chapati is part of all east African culture...mainly Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. There was a lot of trade on the indian ocean coast so we've had this as our food since colonial times. But go off
@@devdasrai Back off, this is not your space. Not to mention your pathetic try trying to politicize food items that clearly has been borrowed and loved for, literally, centuries.

In East Africa Chapati is more like Paratha and not necessarily Roti. But you need a stew with it fam
