Recency bias and hate trains make it hard to be an anime fan. Everything that isn't consistently dropping 8/10+ content just "falls off" and everyones just hates it.

I love the fighting with his chat it's hilarious. I personally like Naruto my self, boy's the one I literally grew up with and the one who's stuck with me the most. I do get Tony's point when he says My Hero gets a lot of unnecessary hate. The story is good and the characters do have compelling arcs. I mean the thing people don't get is that teenagers aren't the most rational beings and they do lead with emotions and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I hate that people forget that for almost all shonen tbh.

Being 10 and watching Naruto drop a speech over his dead friend, one of the few to accept him. Seeing a single teardrop land between Zabuza’s feet and the following shot of him balling his eyes out was what made me realise there might be more to this stuff and start digging.

Gonna be real doesn't seem like he's watched a lot of stuff outside of popular Shonen which isn't the best in general for actually good main characters especially because Shonen is heavily dictated and written based on viewer reception and trying to sell as much merch as possible which is all seen through popularity polls so the main characters are often designed to be as plain and generic as possible to be self inserts

Bro coulda become a detective working alongside the heroes or being like a batman kinda hero. When lemillion (can't remember his actual name) was introduced and it was revealed that he was a potential successor for ofa i dropped the anime/manga.
He went from zero to hero due to having a the most op quirk. early mha is pretty okay but dropped in writing quality massively just to keep selling merch and to avoid fan backlash so it removed all stakes it actually had just to keep fans happy. It has amazing art but other than that it's fairly flat and i hate the underdog troupe when it's used on someone who isn't like naruto who is the embodiment of built different and deku who got the No.1 hero's quirk regardless if he's breaking bones or what not that's instantly removes any chance at being an underdog especially as he only dealt with damage for a short while

I wish I was here when this was happening live Kuroko no Basket and Ahiru no Sora are both fire Basketball animes but the tones are very different. One takes a more shonen approach where being LOCKED IN is almost like having a superpower. The players be in their mf'n bags and there's a group of prodigies.
