It's so interesting how Keaton's whole demeanor and energy change as soon as his wife comes out. Before that, he seemed overwhelmed and almost lost. Then suddenly, he's lively and joking.

Buster Keaton did not see combat during his service in World War I. His division, the 40th Infantry Division, was primarily used as a replacement unit, which means its soldiers were deployed to reinforce other units rather than being sent into battle as a complete division. Keaton himself served in a non-combat role, working in the military hospital in the town of La Rochelle, France. Either way, his service is appreciated and his work as a comedian is enjoyed :)

@@kittykittymeowmeow19 You can see that when his wife comes in, his behavior changes. It's interesting. It feels like those intervention situations or surprise meeting and you unexpectedly find someone to lean on. He's a tragic figure, had serious drinking issues and he's lost confidence in a romantic relationship (his previous wife was cruel as far as she could be). I don't know the extent of that love in the relationship between Buster and Eleanor, but she probably restored his faith in many ways. A man who was at his worst and thought he had lost everything. He looked a little tired, trying to follow the script.

Yes, get your facts straight! He passed away in 1966 and this was in 1957. Between those times he worked on over 30 movies and TV shows. Including many classics. During those times, the World caught up to his genius, and he was fêted at numerous film festivals award shows and testimonials. Director Richard Lester, who put him in his last film, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” let him improvise and even direct his scenes, and not only was overwhelmed by his genius, but says he was delighted to see Keaton in his element, and saw him actually smile more than once! A wonderful last hurrah. Keaton said in his last interview that one of the great moments in his life, was a recent meeting with Charlie Chaplin who he had costarred in “Limelight” and saying that Chaplin told him that he was indeed the greatest comedian and filmmaker in history and that Chaplin felt that he “sat at the feet of genius“

yes, of course, that was a resurgence of his career to a new generation. Legendary William Asher, who directed the original American-lnternational beach party movies, “Beach Blanket, Bingo“ and “How to Stuff A Wild Bikini” two of the great classics of that genre hired his old, good friend Buster, and told him to just write and direct, whatever gags he wanted in the scenes he was in. They were so good and so much better than everything else in the movies, that he kept adding more scenes for him!. That catapulted him into the very lucrative world of many of the great classic comedians in TV series guest spots and commercials. I didn’t mention these in my comment, because the good news was he did continue to be involved in some quite illustrious and classic projects!

As if he had seen a lot in life and had many falls along the way. Pacino also has this way of expressing himself. For both comedy and drama, and I imagine Buster himself in a drama, alluding to his already troubled personal life.
