  • Hello and welcome back to my channel (or a big welcome if you're new here!) In today's video, I thought I would talk about starting Invisalign Braces with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I don't know how much of an impact my EDS will have on the braces, but I thought it was an important factor so wanted to include it. I talk about why I decided to get braces, the process of getting started with them and my experiences so far (and what I'm expecting over the next few months).
I hope you will find this video helpful if you're considering Invisalign or currently have Invisalign. Or will just find it interesting if you don't fit in either of those categories! Please let me know if you would like to see any other Invisalign related videos as I go through my journey with them, or if there's any other videos you would like to see that aren't related to Invisalign at all!

With EDS, teeth tend to move quickly; and braces/retainers often need to be used for a longer period of time to help prevent the teeth from moving back.
Hoping it works well for you!

This is so exciting! So happy for you! I recently had traditional braces & my experience was that my teeth moved incredibly quickly, but it also caused excruciating pain for 5 weeks, which I had never heard of happening before- but my orthodontist explained that it was because my teeth moved about 4 times quicker than she expected, and she’d never seen that happen before 😅

My retainers look exactly like your Invisalign aligners, so you’ll be a pro at taking the retainers in & out when you get to that point! I’m getting better at it, but I found it so hard to get the retainers off for the first few days 😂

I have hEDS and my new dentist is recommending Invisalign to fix some bite issues that are likely making my TMJ worse and wearing my teeth down unevenly. I never had braces or anything as a kid and I never grew my back two sets of molars so I never had wisdom tooth surgery. This is my first time getting any dental work done other than cleanings. Plus, I hadn't seen a dentist in years due to no dental insurance and then the pandemic.
I'm excited to see if it helps my TMJ! Chewing really hurts sometimes and I get a lot of muscle tension in my face and neck.
Hope your process is going well!

Did anybody have issues with gum recession? I’ve been convinced to do invisilines by my doctors to straighten my bite- gums seem to be receding a bit- I’m in my 50s, not sure if this is part of the issue.

I don't think it's something I noticed when I did it, but definitely worth talking to your Dentist about if it's concerning you, as I have heard of it happening before x

So my teeth looked similar to yours, my second insicors are forward. My first incisors are lower and tilted in slightly. And I noticed other people in RUclips talking about EDS also have similar looking teeth. Also when I went into the ortho he asked if I had TMJ because almost everyone with my teeth formation has TMJ and it just so happens TMJ is very common in EDS. My teeth almost completely moved into place by 5 weeks. I'm 3 months in and the ortho has said nothing about it being fast. 😑

Sorry for the late reply. That’s really interesting to hear that a lot of us seem to have similar teeth. I wonder if it’s linked to having a small narrow mouth with a high palette. Yes I’ve noticed TMJ seems to be very common in EDS too. It’s interesting to hear that others with EDS had their teeth move fast too. My orthodontist didn’t really say anything about it either! Hope you’re getting on well with the Invisalign xxx
