Would You Swim in the Mediterranean sea?

  • I've a been an open water scuba diver for many years but never dived in the Mediterranean.
When I did a little snorkeling on a trip to Lebanon. I got a big surprise!
It's not the kind of footage that I usually share because I'm sure people are sick to death of hearing about the state we have made of this unique planet we call home and the lack of action from the worlds politicians.
Here is a chance for you to make a change and try to put things right or at least to make a start.
This is why I'm showing you this video.
I have seen the environmental damage with my own eyes and unless you are deliberately ignoring it you've probably seen it too.
The Med sea bed was completely dead and barren except for dead sea weed that was being blown in from the sea.
There were 1,000's of tiny fish that had protection from a fine mesh shark net that was covering the entrance to the small bay I was swimming in.
With no predators to control their numbers this little fish's population has boomed and they have stripped out all the vegetation in the bay.
    The ecosystem collapsed.
It's similar to what we have seen in other environments when a keystone animal or predators are removed.
The environment collapses. As in the Serengeti and Yellowstone National Park examples.
It can be changed but it is going to need a lot of effort and a long term commitment to get this pollution out of the seas, beaches and rivers.
We have all contributed to this at some point.
There are those naysayers that feel that we cannot do anything as it is such an awful mess already but you would be surprised what a few million committed people can do with the right idea.
If enough people make enough noise then maybe our elected officials will change the laws on single use plastics.
We survived for millions of years without plastic. It's time to stop and put things right.
If you are reading this then it shows you are also concerned.
What we really need to do is get those people who are 'not' concerned to at least think about their own future.
If you would like to get involved with the #teamseas project here are the details.
Share these link's with your friends or anyone you think might have a stake in the future...everyone!

It's a terrible shame to see the degradation of the oceans. We need to do better at looking after the environment. It's the only one we've got. 👍

This film was made near Jounieh beach in Lebanon.
I was shocked to see so much trash in the sea.
