I don't know about you but what does Louisville's administration expect to happen no matter who replaces Payne and he is a proud Cardinal alum! You can't win 12 games in 2 years and expect players to want to play for you. They could've given him all the resources in the world, but if you can't coach, you won't win. If you watch the team play, they have completely quit on him. It's not like there is anything to be taken as a positive to look forward to next year. I mean, they lost to division 2 schools, at home, 2 years in a row. One of those was a blowout loss. Most mid major programs wouldn't even keep a coach who sets records for blowout losses and gives you the worst 2 seasons in school history, why should a program the caliber of Louisville be expected to show that kind of leniency?

Or 1a and 1b depending on who you ask. The negatives against stealing from Arkansas this time specifically are, Louisville is in serious damage control mode. They have been dog shit and so any coach is gonna have a REALLY short leash because they have to. Arkansas NIL collective is humming right now making sure the athletes are paid well. Musselman has been able to land pretty much any recruit he wants at Arkansas and his family is happy here. Lower cost of living means his paycheck goes even further. The contract offer would have to be ludicrous to poach him. But if you offer a huge contract to anyone, and it doesn’t work out. That’s not a good look. Louisville is probably looking to make the best “budget hire” they can. Because Grade A coaches at good programs aren’t about to come try to right that sinking ship. Louisville gonna have to get someone good, but cheap to at least get the program back above water before most coaches will touch it… unless that coach is already on the way out the door. TL:DR Louisville offers absolutely nothing to a coach that Arkansas can’t match, or beat.
