- Follow along as I hunt archery elk with some good friends in this 3 part series that I'm calling: Backcountry Hunting with Horses & Mules. In part 1 we pack in and set our camp, cut and yard in wood for the season, and get ready for 2 full weeks in the backcountry. Part 2 & 3 will follow showing the hunt itself. I hope you enjoy watching.
Oh- now that I’m old and financially able I can’t go. You have no idea how much watching your video means to me in these uncertain times. Thank you So much for sharing. db
Where is this located
Mules do everything so much easier than a horse when it involves rough- country and packing with the exception of a few rare horses, nice video, .......
Nice video but maybe a general idea of where you are, state?
Most bowhunters would give up there families before they reveal there hunting location.
This is great. I feel like such a city slicker when I don’t know how to ride a horse. And watching these guys work is so fun
Awesome 3 Part Hunt. WWG1WGA.
Love the palomino. He/she (forgot to look underneath!) certainly seems to understand his job.
Awesome video. Very relaxing.Keep it up.
man nice video - wish I could do that !! thanks guys
nice boys , i use to guide 37 yrs ago , i soooo miss the mnts. , odd but the sound of shoes crunchin the stone under their feet brings such a good feelin in me that i can smell the horses and packs ,,,,,, thanks guys .
You guys look like you having a blast, I cant wait to see part 2. I have to ask when I see those smooth walking Mules, Why you are not riding Mules?
I would love to be riding my mule but have not taken the time to work with her in that regard. I don’t want to speak on George’s behalf, but I believe for him it’s a personal preference to ride a horse. Mules sure do excel in this country though.
I really enjoyed that video. Not many people show the packing up and packing in, the set up etc and that’s the part I enjoy the most. Thanks for sharing
Nice video!! Nice bull. What state is this?
Why do you put those packs Brita instead of horizontal?. I would think that you'd want them lower to keep center of gravity lower.
While it is good to get the center of gravity low, it’s important to keep the packs weight riding on the top of the horses ribs and back. If they hang down too low it puts the pressure on their sides and makes it more uncomfortable for the horse. Ideally the packs are no more than 24-30” wide so they don’t interfere with the movement of the horses shoulders or hips. If you have a long skinny load you can barrel hitch them which puts the load horizontal. All mantied loads on this pack in were done with a basket hitch which stets them vertical.
@@MatherOutdoors that is a very good explanation, I learned something, thank you
Great vidéo thank you ! I suscribe your channel and ....Grettings from Morocco .
Fine good fun. You boys got it right.
I assume you cut the tent poles from what was in the area?
Yes, you are correct.
no, we flew them in by plane from NEWYORK CITY
CLOWN🤡🤡🤡
You gotta have so much respect for working horses and mules. They’re so beautiful and tough. ✊🏽😌 Awesome country!
It's not easy... But teamwork sure helps.
Those slides are something to be concerned about... At least in Colorado.
Fun times. I’m looking forward to deer camp this year. It’s been cancelled for a couple years. Watching from Ontario Canada
you folks are in bear country no long rifles or sidearms?
I don’t remember what we had this trip but we typically carry a leaver action rifle on one of the saddles and a handgun with our hunting pack. Mostly just black bears in this area and we haven’t had many issues with them.
Good job Joel
what kind of horse that u use to pull the wood
He was a quarter horse. Which is what I mostly use.
You guys are living the dream
Nice video and good looking mules. I'm assuming that your not in a wilderness area, as you are using a chain saw?
Thank you for the compliments. This camp was not located inside of a wilderness boundary, therefore a chainsaw is permitted.
Those are mules, right?
Super...
More videos please 👍🏼
I’ve got a lot more content in the works. It will be a fun fall with lots of tags to fill and pack trips to share. Stay tuned.
