I've been really excited to dive into Chef RPG, and while it's got some great elements, there are a few areas that could use improvement to make the game truly stand out.
    What I Enjoyed:
Visual Style: The pixel art is really charming, and the mix of modern and cyberpunk aesthetics gives it a unique atmosphere. Exploring the world of White Ash feels fresh and fun.
Ingredient Gathering: The adventuring aspect - hunting, foraging, and fishing for ingredients - adds a nice layer of gameplay beyond just running a restaurant. This reminds me of the exploration mechanics in Stardew Valley, but with a more adventurous twist.
    Areas That Need Work:
Skill Progression: The leveling system feels off to me. It doesn’t make sense that I can become a better cook by fishing or hunting! In games like Stardew Valley or Sun Haven, my cooking skills improve when I actually cook. Chef RPG would feel much more rewarding if skills progressed naturally through relevant tasks.
Restaurant Management: I expected more depth when it comes to managing the restaurant. Right now, there’s no need to clean tables, manage staff, or even worry about inventory like you would in a real business. Expanding these management mechanics would make running the restaurant more engaging and strategic, similar to the farming and town-building aspects in other life sims.
Bugs and Inconsistencies: I’ve noticed some frustrating bugs, like when my menu is labeled as "vegan" even though I’m serving meat dishes. Little issues like this pull me out of the experience and make the game feel unfinished at times.
RNG Frustrations: I feel like the RNG in this game is sometimes unfair, especially when gathering rare ingredients. It’s frustrating when luck dictates whether I can progress or not. Adjusting the RNG would help balance the gameplay and reduce the grind.
QOL Issues: There are some small annoyances, like having to unequip tools to harvest plants. These kinds of minor inconveniences add up over time, making the game feel clunky. Adding smoother interactions would make the experience much more enjoyable.
Final Thoughts: I see a lot of potential in Chef RPG, and I’m hopeful that with more updates and player feedback, it can improve in these areas. If the game can polish its core mechanics - especially skill progression and restaurant management - it could really stand out in the genre.
Right now, it's a good experience, but there's definitely room to grow.

I think you need a 90% success on a recipe to be able to autocook it? Something like that. No controller support (yet) which is a shame. The UI does seem to not be well optimized yet but it IS early access so hopefully it gets an update.

I kinda like the art style of the portraits, but I see your point. For me, I think they’d just benefit from having emotional expressions on their face.
Take Prisca, she always looks angry even when she isn’t lol. And I understand that by her character she’s normally in a stressed state but it’d still be nice.

Yeah I mean even some change in their expressions prolly would have made it a bit more understandable. Also it could just be my own personal taste. I either want realistic or beautiful. But I wasn't really getting that from this game.

This game has potential and I know it's in early access, but the backbone of the game doesn't seem to be completely there. The tutorial overwhelmed me, they just kept giving me stuff and I had no idea what to do with them. I didn't even know how to save my game. Also little nit pick. The little beep that happens at the end of dialog or after you interact with stuff really annoys me. The sound just sounds out of place and feels like it happens to frequently.

I'll be sticking to Fields of Mistria for now. It may be EA but it isn't having the issues you mentioned. Disappointing b/c I'm really looking forward to this game but I'll keep my money and continue to keep an eye on it. Appreciate the direct review!

I am a dummy, I keep hearing about UI when it comes to gaming, but I still don't know what it means. Can you tell me please?
This game is on my radar, but my only major concern is running the restaurant part. As rule, I don't like management sims in a game since I don't like multi-tasking. Is the running the restaurant part pretty easygoing or is it pretty stressful?

UI stands for user interface :) so in games, the hot bar would be considered part of the UI, along with inventory and map, basically every element that enables users to interact with a system

    • @miah_the_king
      @miah_the_king  27 дней назад

lol that's okay i'm happy to do it. U.I. stands for User Interface. this ranges from menu design to all the little fixens of the gameplay. Things like health bars, status numbers, inventory management and colletion, the menu options and i could keep going :P
The actual definition: the means by which the user and a computer system interact, in particular the use of input devices and software.

The discovery portion of the game you don't like. If they tell you it would make it too easy. But it is a Star Dew Valley remake it seems. Instead of having the importance of characters slowly introduced, it was kinda like a shot of cocaine to the blood stream. Total overload of info. I don't like the conversation mechanism. ITs boring and can't escape it. On top of that, most people say BS. To many BS characters in it.

@@miah_the_king I don't think they're not drawn well... I'm a illustrator but pixel are is extremely difficult because I think there's a lot you have to suggest with pixels (which can be hard to manipulate). But the colors on each character is appealing, (although I admit the guy with the daughters and rubber bands in his hair looks a bit muddy in terms of skin tones.), it looks semi-realistic which is hard to do it pixel art and they do it well I think. When I think of bad art, I think of that stuff from deviantart, poor anatomy, bad color choices, clean line art... These portraits took a level of skill to produce.
I don't really see disfigurement either and they have the different angles of the face down. The only thing I'd say is that the art style in my opinion makes most of the characters look quite masculine. Strong jaws, thicker necks, ect... The females don't really have the usually stylization we're used to in games which can be off-putting to some but that doesn't default them to being poorly done, I don't quite understand that.
I'm sure they'll be a mod or something that'll come and make them look the way that you'd like. But... The style is so unique and will become recognizable when the full game is fully released. At most I'd soften the features of some of the female characters, and find a way to make some of the darker skin tones not so muddy, but that's it. And not all of females since I'm ok with bea since she's literally swoll 🤭, she's built and maybe the person at the milk store cause her character feels rather masculine but... Yeah. Rant over 💫

@@jessicam588 lol well I have no experience as an artist so I greatly appreciate your point of view.
It is possible that it was just my personal preference that I did not enjoy the drawn individuals in the game. idk...i've played a lot of these kinds of games but this ones portraits are the first I looked at and wasn't enjoying in the slightest.
And while we may not agree I appreciate you being calm and respectful :)
