Just remember last year you guys said the Lions overdrafted jameer Gibbs and Sam LaPorta look what they turned out to be. So it's hard to judge people right off the bat cuz he knows what these players are going to turn out to be
Brad holmes said you can't grade a draft until at least after a year of playing, which I agree with
Gibbs was still a reach. Everyone said he was a good player, just taken too high
@@peterrrrrr954 He's a top three running back and we use a mess a slot receiver. He's just a weapon on the field. There's no way it was a reach after seeing what this kid can do
@@TripleNikel555 he's not even the starting back on the lions. You can't argue he's top 3 right now
He is so nasty! Stop playin
I love that Terrion Arnold even admitted that the Lions sacrificed to move up to get him and he wont forget it and wants to reward it. Hes got a good head on his shoulders, I could see him being a leader for years to come.
Listen to the rich Eisen draft show with him if you haven’t already. You’ll be blown away.
The Detroit Lions were 30 minutes away from the superbowl last season. Their biggest weakness was cb. They have now adressed (fixed) that issue. All I can say is the rest of the NFL better look out.
More like 17-20 mins away FROM A SB. These Pundits say Outlandish to draw people into their dumb ass orbit for clickbaits.
A lot of teams needed this draft, besides us. So a lot of teams got better as well. My only concern is how well our moves pay off. Like the eagles. Letting them get Mitchell and Dejean is kinda crazy. And even if we make it out of the NFC, teams like the Chiefs who were allowed to pick up Worthy are there. I mean, we still might even have to contend with the Bears of all teams out of nowhere after the offensive offseason they’ve had lol. It’s going to be a wild year and I’m excited.
@sosmooth13 NFC North looks very strong, and Williams appears to be the real deal but it will be his first season. I am thinking Chicago is still another year away from truly contending. In MCDC and Brad we trust!
@@sosmooth13the difference is that many teams lose quality players in the process. The lions’ best player to leave was their 4th best lineman (not to discredit him though, he’s a great guard)
@@kittylarkin1236 the other teams I mentioned definitely gained a lot more than they lost though. Mitchell is the real deal, and Worthy has the best QB in the league. I’m just happy the Cowboys are still settling for mediocrity😂
Manu reporting eligible
6’8 giant for a td
Colby sorsdal was drafted in the 5th lmfao not the 3rd round. Y’all be reaching for ways to bash a GM who’s made the LIONS GOOD 😂
Picking Rakestraw was not insurance in case Arnold is bad. Rakestraw was simply BPA on Holmes board. He’s told us again and again that he is just going to take the best player.
Wasted pick Jonah Ellis was better option
People be forgetting that Rake was projected to be late first round majority of the draft process. We got 2 dawgs
@@Jamar-lg9obyea that's why you're not employed by a team 😂😂😂
@@InbredSpanishKing don't do contracts
@@InbredSpanishKingHis source: Trust me bro!
Bald guy is the king of yapping
mayor of yap city
Joke talk bro I got smarter writing this comment than I did listening to him
Sam (bald guy)was tearing up the lions last year for having a porous def.back field. Yet when they actually improve their defense, he says they overreach or overspend what a clown.
Seems to me the dude is complementing the Lions throughout the entire podcast, not sure why people are hating on him?
The Lions are a team that does not have many open spots. Even backups are even hard to find room for. Arnold and Rakestraw are not needed to start week one 2024. They are needed to start week one 2025. Not a single player in this draft is needed to start. The Lions are investing in the team depth and future starters.
Terrion really should and I would say needs to start. We don't have a true CB1 unless your think CD3 fits the bill?
I agree. It’s like building a college program where upper class men are in place. If freshmen come in and dominate, then great there’s good competition for starting jobs. But if not, it’s not a knock on the incoming players, it’s just a nod to the talent on the team and they’ll get the time they need to get comfortable in the system and work their way into the rotation
I agree with you here. If Arnold can come and take the starting spot u know they will let him No matter what they are paying Davis.
@@gregbrohl8340If Arnold can come in and take the job, I would be happy with that situation. CB is a tough spot for a rookie. I would expect the veterans to take the starting spots for the first half of the season. Injuries and player development could shuffle that later for sure. It sure is nice to have a team with some depth.
That’s dumb. We have a terrible CB room right now. Bunch of back ups and Moseley hurt. Arnold will be a starting CB week 1.
Here we go again PFF once again bashing Detroit. When y'all gonna learn?
As far as Manu Giovanni goes Detroit had him in (for I'm assuming workouts) 9 times.
What exactly did PFF do to come up with their grade on Manu? Interviews? Anything? No.... which is why a player like that you guys have no business having a grade on.
PFF has consistently said that detroit has reached for players etc. At the point where I question if they actually know ball or not.
He was a reach based on pre-draft knowledge. However it's how, we do things. Who cares what people outside of Detroit think! BRAD DOESN'T!
If you listen to them they just waffle the whole time 😂
They sound pretty even handed about it to be honest. Manu is a gamble, you can't say that it isn't
Most of this video is praise for the Lions. Watch more than the first minute.
If we didn’t trade up for Terrion the he would be a Packer
YUP!!!
Rather have Wiggins
@@Jamar-lg9ob Wiggins is a bad tackler. He not built for this defense
@@Offball313 like dieon said he a cb supposed to stop the pass which he do at a higher level than Arnold
@@Jamar-lg9ob makes more sense to take the player that does both at a high level
13 teams showed up to Manu's pro day. I don't think that happens for a late round guy.
You have to remember. Next year is when the Lions are going to start running up against the cap. Carlton Davis is a nice player. But its unlikely they can afford to keep him next year. As Decker, Goff and Alim Mcneil are all free agents. So taking both CB's along with Branch last year. Means they have the DB 's cost controlled for several years. And not forcing them to pick up players off the street (Vildor) just to field a team in the playoffs
The cap is being raised. They have factored that in.
@@freeclimb5487this guy gets it
@@freeclimb5487 True, but you wont have any real numbers until after the season. And giving Goff a market value raise, puts them at a competitive disadvantage. He is long off the rookie scale. Yet is paid closer to the top end of the market. And as much as a like him as a player. He likely just inside the top ten. The biggest advantage is that there is not a clearly better Qb in the NFC.
I suggest you check Over the Cap or Spotrec. The Lions have huge 2025 cap space. Even subtracting Goff and Alim’s anticipated new contracts next year they will have over 90 million in space.
Lions will have $98 Million in cap space next year.
Giovanni has the physical gifts to be a beast, and if you haven't noticed the lions have one of the best O lines in the game and arguably the best tackle in Sewell. Gio doesn't have the need to be a day one starter, so given the right coaching and tutelage, who knows? Just because PFF doesn't look at other programs outside the US doesn't mean all those programs are trash
Here we go. The annual PFF is wrong about the Detroit Lions draft grade.
You guys seem more wrong that right
I don't think it's wrong or right. It's all subjective nonsense, none of us know how a player is going to "grade out" until they hit the field and we give them time to develop. Much like the draft itself, grading a draft is taking on gamble on which players we think will have higher ceilings/floors. Do you really give a shit about draft grades? I don't. I care about whether or not my team wins.
Hmmm. On the one had you say Arnold was #8 on the Big Board, on the other hand you say, they gave up too much??? For #8 talent and player, #29+#73 would be considered a major steal!!
Lions balled out in the draft. I do think they should’ve gotten Darius Robinson. Canton, MI guy to match the other edge of Hutchinson but I see what Holmes was thinking with Terrion Arnold. Overall Brad Holmes did his thing. EAGLES fan and I love the way the Lions are moving
Southfield/Detroit guy played in at Canton …
If Robinson was from anywhere other than Michigan everyone would say we already have him in Davenport... same player coming out in draft.
Oh, no! The Lions DID NOT think they might have goofed in getting Terrion Arnold. Far from it. They have acknowledged that he was their top defensive player on the board. The reasons for getting Rakestraw are several:
1) you can almost predict - you can almost assume - that there's going to be some injury in the defensive backfield. They suffered several key injuries last year and they were caught not having enough depth back there;
2) Rakestraw was graded as their 2nd best corner - why not double down? Holmes double downed on his first draft with DT's (Alim McNeill & Onzuriweke (sp?)); he tripled down on his 2nd draft with Hutchinson, Paschal & Houston at DE; while he didn't double down in his 3rd draft, he signed 3 DB's in free agency. Brad Holmes certainly attacks his weaknesses with a number of players;
3) the CB's they obtained during free agency are only signed for a year or two. They are looking towards the future with Rakestraw, as well as a number of their other picks.
I think these guys get lost in the sauce. They might know players but they have no clue when it comes to how a player fits a team or a particular scheme. Just look at least year, almost every pick they made was criticized. Look how it turned out.
Important to remember that trading not only got us Arnold, but kept him off of the Packers roster.
They should of let him take him wasn't even best cb in his team
@@Jamar-lg9ob laughable
I like how they think the "consensus board" is somehow valid/true. Year after year it's wrong. Not only because of actual draft order, but it doesn't predict starters to backups to busts with ANY consistent accuracy.
Yet I'm still watching, what's wrong with me.
Lions have always drafted well in the Brad Holmes era, the draft grades don’t apply to them
These so called "experts" have learned nothing from Detriot's draft last year. They said it was terrible.... Not so much.... Gibbs, LaPorta, Branch & Campbell. Yeah, they all sucked... smh
@@freeclimb5487It wasn't so much that they hated who the Lions drafted last year. Poor "Postional value" they called it. It's hard to argue with the results the Lions have had since Holmes and Campbell arrived.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr ran a 4.44 at his Pro Day.
Sounds like a potential kick returner
Proday always generous
@platoniczombie that sounds nice coming from your couch right?
@STREAMSONLY-vt6gx chair actually... but I guess you "got" me. 🙄
@@platoniczombie 🤡
I wanted the team draft an interior O-line guy with one of the first two picks but truthfully, after that mini-rush on tackles and guards prior to the Lions picking in round two the value wasn't really there. And they needed a long-term answer at CB. Davis has one year left on his deal and Robinson signed a two-year deal but beyond that the cupboard is bare. Mosley is a crap-shoot and the rest of the guys are PS level players at best. We are okay at safety, provided they can re-sign Joseph and Iffy but CB was a short and long-term need, thanks in no small part to Sutton being such a train-wreck, on and off the field. I don't think Davis is coming back, not with Goff and McNeil needing to get paid. Two young guys with complimentary skills is just what the doctor ordered. I didn't like them giving up next years third on a project out of Canada but the guy is a house and I feel better about him than I do about Martin who was such a reach Brad must have pulled his shoulder clean out his socket. Vaki is the one who interests me. I like that the team pays close attention to special teams and that guy may be the next Steve Tasker kind of player. And don't sleep on Wingo. Kid has heart and he won't be asked to do too much in year one. Mahogony is the next starting guard for the team after this season, bank on that.
Couldn’t agree more and with the way Brad was working to move up I would guess he tried but couldn’t make it work for a reasonable price. My only complaint is I would have loved to see us add someone to replace Josh, I know we have DPJ that has great length and 50/50 ball skills to go with Amon and Jami’s speed but I worry about what happens if we lose Amon or Jamo to injury? I don’t think our pass rush was that bad in the second half of the season but our secondary just got picked apart so quickly every play.
Just saw a interview of Manu he said the Lions told him they want to try be put him next to Sewel if he can do it. Manu actually reminds of Dan Skipper type player but younger.
Wondering how long these guys spent scouting these players as area scouts to be able to give a grade before the test.
I understand analytics people look at value. But they don't take into account the roster and whether these players are upgrades from what is already there. No receiver picked later would be able to play. The Lions must really like Sorsdahl and Owosika as young backup interior lineman. I think Holmes has the right, given his record, to do what he wants.
Moving Manu to right guard next to Sewell
To eventually transition to RT
Rt
Lets define a "reach." A reach was Bo Nix: he is incredibly unlikely to live up to a 12 pick. A bet on a physical behemoth tackle is exactly what you want in the 4th round: high risk, high reward. Manu might not work out but if he does he will stop 100% of opposing rushers on that side of the line.
I haven't watched anything yet but I bet they bring up the Gibbs pick again. Let's see...
It took 9 minutes but there it is!
Brad Holmes is always right
i kind of feel like the way detroit is playing the draft right now is that everything in rounds 1 and 2 is high value and everything after is just a shot in the dark. thus them trading away a 3rd round pick to them may not be much different than them trading away a 6th round pick in their eyes. and when you look at who they selected in the 4th round vs who they selected in the 6th round you start seeing that they really just get their eyes set on guys that maybe most other teams simply aren't even looking at anyway.
Calculated not shot in the dark. Have you not been paying attention to the RESULTS??? You sound FOOLISH 💯
I really like both the corners the Lions took in this draft!
Lol lions got #1 draft ranking in terms of value for players drafted in relation to consensus mocks and big boards, according to warren sharp football. So c grade is fricken wild.
They're stuck in the past and allow that effect the way they grade us now.
I think you can have steals in the 1st round although i understand what you're saying. You can even call Hutch at 2nd and Sewell 7th. It just so happened teams valued different things and had different needs. But even a team with your same needs like the Bengals needing to protect burrows, might go in a different direction. So getting a true steal relies on a lot of luck where half a dozen things align
I’m thinking the Lions draft will play out to be another A+, Brad Holmes has a badass record as far as selecting stars in every draft…
Manu is not a reach by no means he’s 6’8” 360 pounds I think. He will be developed into a great O Line man
VAKI is a special teams stud. He’s the best special teams player in the draft.
Colby Sorsdal was a 5th round pick
Manus potential is good enough for that trade up he could be crazy good and the lions have amazing oline coaches and develoupment
Becoming a tradition of PFF critiquing lions draft and Holmes getting a top 3 draft
Per Manu's agent, multiple teams were interested in taking him on 4th!! Just read it! This guy is gonna rule NFL for 10 yrs with his superb athletic ability for the size as aright guard and left tackle!!
Huh...seem to remember this conversation last year and look what happened.
I grade the Lions a B or B+ on the strength of the players they picked. The plus is for getting lucky and drafting players that are falling below their consensus grade deep in a round. I think a C grade a bit too low. I’m a Lions fan so if the grade had been A++ because you get what they are doing I would smile and be ok with that too!
Soirsdal was round 6 or 7
Round 5
They were referring to Broderic Martin I think.
I think the Lions traded those 3rds because they believe Aaron Glenn will get a HC job within the next 2 seasons and will be owed two third-round compensatory picks
That's actually a SUPER interesting take I'd never though of. You're probably onto something there.
Geez McVay built the lions foundation by giving up all those high draft picks for Stafford and then throwing in Goff. Goff would of won that LA superbowl with that Rams bought team of Von Miller, Jalen Ramsey etc.. just crazy.
The lions did so well last year offensively nobody cares about 3rd round wr
I think Brad Holmes is better at picking players than all the talking heads that aren’t actual NFL GMs combined.
The Lions entire 2024 draft hinges on Manu being a hit. They were okay losing that 3rd rounder clearly because they had their eyes on Manu.
The second pick was not insurance. Even after the draft, the Lions are STILL short in the secondary. Arnold will start because they don’t have enough resources in that area.
What are you talking about?? Carlton Davis, Emmanuel Mosley, Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold, and Ennis. We have plenty of Depth. Especially with Branch being in the slot
Manu is a freak. They will make him a player.
Lions are investing in the playoffs they know they will be back. They just need dependable corners/safety’s
He meant Broderick Martin.
Martin maybe good.
Last year Broderick Martin was the surprise
Ive heard that Arnold was their top defensive player on their draft board and ot was a position of need kind of, not withstanding what they did in FA. I also heard that both GB wantsd Arnold along with Tampa so jumping in front of those 2 teams and getting the best defensive player on your draft board and preventing your biggest rival from getting him was well worth giving up a 3rd round pick and i it strenthens the biggest weakness they had last year. Ig we had this secondary last year we would have beeen in and maybe even won the SB. In fact lions have strengthened all their weaknesses from last year. Definitely an A draft
It’s not that the potential we goofed with Arnold it’s the fact our secondary was Swiss cheese that we drafted Rakestraw
Nfc north fans showed up for the lions, packers, bear and vikings videos lmao
We do football differently here!
Saying “Off the reservation”, when referring to someone going crazy, can definitely get you in trouble these days
Relative to the consensus board. I get that's the best info non-nfl teams have. But the argument here is flawed about a steal and a reach. First off, when a team "reaches" the public had no idea if teams behind them in the draft order would have selected them or not. You're dealing with incomplete data. Second, there obviously are steals. There may be injury concerns with a player and that's why the player falls but you're telling me Puka Nacua, Amon Ra St. Brown, Brock Purdy aren't steals? Again I get what you're trying to say but with the incomplete data as NFL teams don't publish their rankings, and how there are reasons why a player falls separate from ability, I just don't agree.
Impossible for PFF to do a Lions segment where they don't meander to the Cowboys or some other franchise. Sad.
I honestly don't know how i almost just watched this entire thing.
Whole lotta nuthin being talked about here...
Last year it was Brodric Martin in the 3rd…
These guys are clueless to Holmes draft strategy which places BPA above everything regardless of need and ironically one of the host indicated that is a great strategy. Rakestraw was picked bc he was the highest player on the board
Does Gio Manu even count against the 53?
Compared to the Eagle's draft
Imma say we ran a solid B
I’m actually looking forward to preseason fights
Our practice squad is going to be awesome. That’s what it’s about now. We just paid an undrafted receiver, we good.
If your PS is/was "awesome" they'd all be signed away by other teams unless you elevated them to the active roster!
Lions fan chill these guys last year liked lions draft just fumbled there take because a made concept called positional value and this year overall they like there draft
Am I the only one that smells BUST on Terrion? I hope I'm wrong bc I'm a lions fan but I don't see what everyone else does
In Holmes we trust
Rake is a DAWG!
Vaki is a 2 in 1, so thats really 7 picks.
These guys last year were on cusp of talking themselves into liking the lions 2023 draft but let positional value talk themselves out of it! Hopefully they no longer believe ih positional value
T.A runs a little faster top DB taken. RAKE tested poorly but he was a lockdown db. Watch LSU game. Once they threw at Rake, that was enuff. Poor take.
Yall called Jahmyr Gibbs a reach I don’t want to hear that word again from yall.
Turned it off when you said C wtf lol
No such thing as a steal huh? So what about Puka Nacua going in the 5th round and making 2nd team All-Pro as a rookie, smh.
Guys pff always gonna find a way to bash us. We give them viewers because we come to hate on it 🤣🤣
I regret clicking on this video. Also have the worst takes and dont address how horrid their takes were the year prior
When amateur statisticians talk about data 😂 Bro in the short sleeve is speaking so many contradictions. Bring us real content?
Has anyone seen MANU??????
They doubled down at corner because everyone else on the roster is on a 1 year deal.
Not because of their worries with terrion Arnold.
All this numbers talk is taking the fun out of football. Sometimes the eyes tell all. Getting a little too analytical for me.

Idk why you guys are acting like they shit all over our draft lol seemed like a fair analysis
Then you’re just as uninformed as them
@@VanBoutDat that doesn't even make sense
Holmes will make these analysts look ignorant.... again.
When will you guys get what the Lions are doing? You always call it a reach. If you want a certain player it isn't a reach. Get with the program.
postion of low value based on this Clowns. RB they picked Gibbs one of the most electric young players that make a difference in games. MLB they picked Jack Campbell 95 combined tackles. SS they picked Brian Branch, ball hawk that plays with a motor. Jesus Christ this nerds think by watching the game 24/7 they will be better at the draft than the guys that played the game.

Both of you are on strong narcotics
Definitely, as long as you're just talking AFC South teams. It's between Eagles, Ravens, or Steelers for best draft IMO
People actually like these bums?
Blah blah blah blah blah
I'm not in the Brad Holmes cult so I'll be honest and say for the most part I like the pics as far as player talent but I give him a very low grade for not drafting what we needed, AN EDGE!
Was a starting edge available when we selected? ....... No it wasn't.
Brad said he started making calls as soon all the defensive players fell out of the top-10. Who knows, he may have tried to grab Latu or Turner but the price may have been too high. I was hoping he'd make a move for Byron Murphy when he was still out there at 16 but that didn't work. That Wingo kid they drafted out of LSU in the 6th round might add some rotational pop to the line. If "The Problem" can return to 2022 form they should be better. McNeil was on his way to 10 sacks before he got hurt and with Reader lining up next to him teams aren't going to be able to put a guard and center on him like they were doing later in the season. I think they'll be better but hey, I was screaming for a Max Crosby trade because Mad Max and Hutch would have been insane.
What you needed not we!!!
There was a report the lions were on the phone to trade up with the Seahawks but then when colts took Latu the deal was off the table… again it’s here say but a better secondary will give Hutch the extra second or 2 he needed to end up getting 14+ sacks this year probably…. DJ reader was a great pick up and Wingo is going to be an edge for the most part
If you listened to Brad Holmes talking about that pick…. So idk wtf you smoking but our pass rush will still be better than when we had the Okwara bros and Charles Harris……. I mean the guys we already brought in alone have a higher ceiling….
What the heck does Brad need to do for you to like him? Seriously. The dude is amazing and here you are pissing in your own porridge
Last year it was the big DT from William and Mary...Broderic Martin...Sorsdal was not a surprise pick
Sorsdal was from William and Mary, Martin was from Western Kentucky in the 3rd round.
